Why are people saying it was like the sinking of the Titanic. Where the Titanic went down you couldn't swim to shore. And I don't think the waters of Tuscany are below freezing.
They should strap him to a wooden pole off a beach near the accident, facing the very spot where the ship sunk, and his victims died. Then let the tide come in and take him, just like what they used to do to people in ancient times.

I thought the same thing. It's easy to sit behind a telephone, dry and warm, while you scream at some other poor sucker to get back on a sinking ship. There's nothing even remotely heroic about that.
He must of "hit a rock" right before he hit the rock...... thank God it wasn't in deeper waters otherwise this story would be much more tragic..... between Titantic and Jaws I don't see why anyone would want to be on a cruise ship anyway....

Once he had abandoned his ship, he probably couldn't get
back on. He shouldn't have gotten off in the first place, and
to steer his ship so close to the island was inexcusable! Had
he ordered the evacuation earlier and radioed for help, so
many more lives could have been saved!
