This man is somthing else. A real and true artist. A real poet. I love this man. So much depth so much passion. Wow. Almost every album I have baught of his is worth more to me than gold.
@pkrajnovic the same way people say that the beatles are for "Old People". Well, I'm & months shy of 20, and i love this music, and wish everyone would give this type of Music a chance
i remember hearing this one for the first time in a smoke filled room , it was in pittsburgh p.a. the next day i was landing at ontario airport in california to start a new life. i was 19. long may you run!
So true about drugs, where does the magic go? Just cant find the perfect high. Then always in your head you say i will STOP today...But u let it go on for another day. Its hard to get out....Neil sings this from living it. GET OUT....its hard but u can do it.
@TheKrissstof Most likely pancho is playing with him here, the freedom album had Neil, pancho on second guitar, ben keith on keyboards, chad kromwell on drums, and rick rosas on bass
@FrenchGnome1 Indeed!, and especially in electric stuff, neil is way better (with dangerbird from year of the horse maybe as best example). But dylan can write even deeper lyrics as Neil does... but both are amazing and more =D
Neil Young, at least from what I could gather from reading his biography "Shakey" never had a serious drug problem. the book, comprised largely of direct quotes from Neil, suggests he used several drugs, sometimes heavily, over several years but never struggled with addiction. he never became dependent upon any drug. Many of his close peers however did, some of whom died. 'No more' seems to be about serious addiction and its my guess that he wrote it as a reflection of what he saw in them
@joeldesmarais he was touring with just Ben Keith and Poncho, doing mostly solo acoustic. This one was captured on video, directed by Tim Hutton - actor, currently on "Leverage" ....called Freedom, maybe only available on VHS. On that one, it was just him, killer performance. Yeah here I hear the other guitar in the solo for sure, good ears.
@blindriv3r I thought the studio and live electric versions were good...acoustic is just hauntingly beautiful. Thanks for posting, definitely have to find the vhs/dvd whatever format it is.
from the Blues Brothers? I dunno if Steve Cropper plays this or not, but you would say Steve Cropper from the Blues Brothers!? Booker T and the MG's please.
Yeah man the same Steve Cropper from Stax Record, Booker T and the Mg's, Saturday Night Live and the Blues Brothers but anyway my guess is wrong, I think the only time Cropper played with Young it's at the Bob Dylan celebration concert so it's probably Sampedro
No, actually Booker T and the MG's toured with Neil in 93 after they enjoyed playing together so much at Bobfest and then they also play on his 'Are you Passionate?' album.
"i feel the way you feel - i couldnt let it go- it wouldnt set me free- no more,no more, no more, no more. i can't find it no more, where did the passion go? musical brilliance!!! i met neil twice in the 80's , backstage at blossom music center. he was just as humble as anyone.
I am completely jealous of everybody who was at that show. If I wasn't born in 1989, anytime earlier, I would have flown my ass from the U.S. to Paris to see this. Thank you for posting.
I feel the way you feel its not so long ago you had a hold on me i couldnt let it go it would have set me free it could have set me free no more no more NO MORE !!!!!!!
There comes a time when you know you have exausted every drop of your self and you come to the understanding that its time to say NO MORE !!!!!!!!!!!!

I had forgotten the lyrics before listening just now. It turns out they are eerily appropriate tonight. :/

who's playing with him? sometimes you hear soft (i think electric) guitar tones of another guitar?
I know ben Keith was with him in those times but is it him?

a lot of these melodies sound more like alice in chains/jerry cantrell than anything else definitely any other grunge band

@deepthought0lukas I've always thought just the same thing, no one can match dylan's writing, but no one can match neil young's playing either

He is the second greatest Songwriter and maybe the best Performer and Artist ever...
