I want to remove the heatsink with my motherboard attached to the case. can i just pull the heatsink after turning the 4 screws, anyone please? i don't have access to the back of the motherboard.
why would anyone dislike this video? he was running out of time so he had to hurry. ive learned more from this video than dozens of other 6 minutes ones where the guys were " more gentle" to the godamned motherboard
@marcos20alves totally agree. i've been pissin about in random forum's and vids for close to an hour now. no use whatsoever, finally came across this guy. thanks kwei206
I bought the same heatsink thats in this video. My lga 775 comes with screws only. How do i remove the screws and make it so that i can put push pins in. Do I just remove the backplate or do i need to buy something for it.
first of all, this is a stupid way to remove the heatsink. first, unlock and pull up all four pegs. once all four are unlocked and pulled up, only then you can pull the whole heatsink all the way off the board without much fuss. you can even do that with the board screwed on the casing! as for the anti static band, all you have to do is discharge built up energy on the casing and you're fine. this vid got me laughing so hard, when he was poking under the board, i got some spit on my monitor
That is TERRIBLE technique! Ya don't work on electronic components on a terrycloth towel. Sheesh, man ya want a static shock to fry your motherboard? And it is not necessary to get to the underside of the motherboard to push any pins up. You need nimble hands. You use your hands like mule hoofs batting at flies.
Will this cpu fit in my computer?Intel Pentium E6700 Wolfdale 3.2GHz 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775.My desktops socket is lga 775 so can any cpu with a lga775 socket work? Here are the cpu specs on my pc.•Operating speed: Up to 2.2ghz
•Socket: no socket (this processor is soldered onto the motherboard)
Processor upgrade information
Socket type: 775
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
@bobctx Congratulations my intellectually challenged friend, you are the only person in the world with an Intel Quad q660, might I be so bold as to ask the specificstions of this unique, one off processor. Also, what in the name of all that is holy is duo 2......wait my 6yo niece has just explained it all to me. She says you meant a Core 2 Quad Q6600 (same as the one in my PC), (AMD X4 965 in my other one) and a Core 2 Duo. So it seems YOU suck.
anti-static stuff is over-rated. i've been building my own pc's for the better part of 12-13 years now and i've never had a component go bad due to "anti-static" no matter how rough i've kept them stored or installed.
i have on the other hand, had a graphics card steadily go bad due to heat, and a cpu fry the instant i powered a system on(after i got back from iraq), as well as hdd's steadily die(as my 1.5tb is doing right now)
OMG!!! AN ECS MOTHRTBOARD!!!!!! looks like my old p4m800pro-m v2 except it doesnt have 4 ram slots... THE WORST BOARD I HAVE EVER OWNED, i burned it in my backyard :)
Sigh, all these "experts" in the comments that probably have fried several CPUs and RAM sticks. Look, if you know wtf you're doing (which this guy seems to know) then his approach is FINE. If you don't know what you're doing then by all means hook yourself up to ground, use anti-virus software, use a firewall or better yet: pay someone to fix your stuff for you. But if you know wtf you're doing, well...then you don't need that.

Thanks for making this vid man, I had trouble remembering how to take it off as I was upgrading from E6750 Core 2 Duo to E6750 Core 2 Quad today, installed a Thermalright 120 Ultra Extreme 775, hooked it up to the Aerogate II fan controller (As it had a 3 pin power connector, not giving it any power via motherboard) Currently running at 25 degrees, and, only 2 mins after first startup with newly applied cooling paste!! :D
Why what did the Motherboard ever do to you? And to all those people stating you really dont need an electrostatic wristband it all depends on the surface if your on carpet get your wristband out if your on hardwood why you trying to break your motherboard and if your on crack do what kwei2006 did.
Who was that guy, did a computer assembly video, in teh Video info he said 'don't say anything about the carpet and what I'm using" and the video was hilarious, and in comments someone called it "The Blair Witch Project of Computer Tutorials" I can't seem to find that one...
You don't NEED a anti static band, seriously people, give it up already, I can understand if you blew your paycheck on something like this then the paranoid phase kicks in, but not everyone is that cautious, I built mine without a band, I handle circuit boards in my job and never shorted one, its all bullshit. Unless you really try to do it, or just downright clueless, or shit luck.
@opretpally I know that it never happened to you, but theoretically static electricity could damage the board, or any other electronic component for that matter. Saying that its not necessary because it did not happen is like saying that buckling up in an airplane is not necessary because you never crashed in one. You can always ground yourself with a metal object electrically connected to the ground. You will certainly not call it "shit luck" when it happens to you.

Properly best to use anti-static gloves (to avoid electric shock / damaging the motherboard), and not too move the motherboard by using the heat sync.

HA HA...You are as witty as you are skilled with a screwdriver!......what is this a retards lesson in how to unscrew 4 screws!!..ha ha!...what a fucking joke this video is...it is absolutely fuckin pointless!...people here saying cheers mate ive wasted hours trying to remove a heatsink?...wtf..is this youtube or retards tube!..ffs..and using a synthetic carpet is inviting static..look it up you fucking amateur!!!!
Cheers mate, I've wasted hours trying to figure out how to remove the heatsink and, although this won't give me those hours back, it certainly will save me a few more :-).
so im about to replace a celeron cpu with a core 2 quad. and when i take the fan off, do i have to remove my mobo from my case to get the fan off because of those little plastic nobs. or can i just pull it out?
All those videos about removing the heatsink and cpu altogether don't answer my question, which seems to be unsolvable !! How can I remove my cpu, which is attached with thermal glue, from my heatsink ? Simple question, no answer. I can't use a knive, can I ? It's so well attached, gosh !
I've never seen that happen... But I guess you can just pry it out. The CPU surface isnt all that soft and sensitive, so a box cutter would probably work out fine.
The guy making this video over-complicates it. Its just undo 4 easy screws and pull off. But I must warn if your case is cluttered or the heat sink is near the PSU, one of the screws might be hard to access.

Properly best to use anti-static gloves (to avoid electric shock / damaging the motherboard), and not too move the motherboard by using the heat sync.
This is not the safest tutorial I've seen...

@ecorg911
i've been messing with computers 12 years.. you're technically correct you should use a anti-static braclet.
although you can also touch a unpainted metal surface on your case.
although honestly? ESD is extremely rare .. just dont wear socks and rub your feet across the carpet before working on one :P

HA HA...You are as witty as you are skilled with a screwdriver!......what is this a retards lesson in how to unscrew 4 screws!!..ha ha!...what a fucking joke this video is...it is absolutely fuckin pointless!...people here saying cheers mate ive wasted hours trying to remove a heatsink?...wtf..is this youtube or retards tube!..ffs..and using a synthetic carpet is inviting static..look it up you fucking amateur!!!!
quantumforce123 2 years ago
wat an amateur!!!...can anyone tell me what the point of this retarded video is?....its obviously not a lesson in good pc engineering!
quantumforce123 2 years ago
Is it true what they say about the size of your CPU ? I have never seen one that big. Are all new computers now with these oversized CPUs ?
auto78900 2 years ago
Cheers mate, I've wasted hours trying to figure out how to remove the heatsink and, although this won't give me those hours back, it certainly will save me a few more :-).

so im about to replace a celeron cpu with a core 2 quad. and when i take the fan off, do i have to remove my mobo from my case to get the fan off because of those little plastic nobs. or can i just pull it out?
disturbedawsome 2 years ago
All those videos about removing the heatsink and cpu altogether don't answer my question, which seems to be unsolvable !! How can I remove my cpu, which is attached with thermal glue, from my heatsink ? Simple question, no answer. I can't use a knive, can I ? It's so well attached, gosh !
BlingBlingDo 2 years ago
I've never seen that happen... But I guess you can just pry it out. The CPU surface isnt all that soft and sensitive, so a box cutter would probably work out fine.
latuman 2 years ago
@BlingBlingDo, I hope you didn't try to remove the fan/heatsink the way this idiot did in the video.
Anyway, run something like a 3D demo to cause the CPU to heat up. Then shut off the computer, and GENTLY AND SLOWLY twist the heatsink off.

LOL I love the frustration working with all those little plastic parts. Good video!

do u guys think AMD's heatsink is a better design?
lung1986 2 years ago
no...
awp1994awp 2 years ago
now would u be able to do this if the mobo is already inside the case?
MajinFrahma 2 years ago
The guy making this video over-complicates it. Its just undo 4 easy screws and pull off. But I must warn if your case is cluttered or the heat sink is near the PSU, one of the screws might be hard to access.

most definatly not.

no. I moved harddrive from one computer to next, and windows just updated peripherals, and kept going.
