wow thats cool...does the NYC subway share tracks with the LIRR here? ive never seen a system where freight/commuter rail shares track with the local metro before...interesting :)
@JimboRailfan no, the LIRR and NYC subway are seperate systems. The LIRR was designed for freight and passenger, it just lost most of the freight business.
@Islanderh93 I understand that, but I was just wondering, what is that third rail for, if it's not for a combination of subway/metro and commuter trains? :/
@JimboRailfan the thrid rail is for the m3 and m7 electric trains. LIRR runs electric trains into the city and on points west such as: the Port Washington branch, the Long Beach Branch, Far Rockaway branch, west hempstead branch, babylon branch, oyster bay line to East Williston, Port Jefferson line to Huntington, and teh Rokonkoma branch (MAIN LINE) to Ronkonkoma. On all points east of Jamaica, diesels can be run (third rail or not).
oh man i like graffiti but thats real dick of someone to tag locomotive 271, i read somewhere that taggers usually don't spay locomotives cause they respect the engineers and don't want them to crack down on security at yards, guess that jerk doesn't know the rules
Don't you think it's possible for CSX and Canadian Pacific to buy track rights on LIRR property and run short freights over all over LI coming out of the Bronx through Fresh Pond and all over Suffolk and Nassua County.
