My dad was in the USAF and he took me down to Pope Air Force Base and I got to explore the C-5 C-17 and C-130 Then I got to ride the C-5. Those things are HUGE in the inside compared to the outside.
its what they do when they are heavy and fully loaded! they hold the brakes until the engines reach a high "rev" like you said, then release the brakes, it will make the plane sort of launch with better speed to compensate for a short runway or heavy load
it's amazing to me to watch this monster of a plane eat up entire runways. :D
you should see it here at Robins AFB when they load it down with trucks or an F-15 or such. or if you've ridden one while it was fully loaded. you take up so much runway that you think you won't make it. I LOVE THE C-5 Galaxy! :D
Looks like he just got a fast ground speed before rotation. If they were all Cobras, Load plan was probably around 200,000 +or- Few thousand. Depending on fuel and destination, my educated gues was about and Debarkation from PR, 180k in fuel... your looking at around 840,000lbs ramp weight. Which would be easy for that airframe on that runway. the term applies.. if you have it.. why not use it.
good god. I wonder what was this beauty loaded down with? maybe some trucks or a tank? I loved riding these when I was younger. My dad was stationed at Yokota AFB in Japan.. We used to fly all the was from there to the states on one of these babies. :)
He must have been really heavy to use that much runway. The GE TF-39's were the first high bypass turbo fans ever built. not bad for the first of their design, though they are way overdue for replacement, I wish they would have chosen the GE90's instead of the CF60 C2's. Much better engine and fully upgradeable. They are still breaking thrust records today.
That was TOO much runway. At one point after rotation, it looks as if he's smoking the main gear tires as they lift then touch down again as it struggles to gain airspeed. Seems like something may have been wrong. Or, maybe it was just heavy as hell. The initial roll-out seemed like slow motion.
what the hell are you talking about??? does this hhas anything to do with the c-5 taking off??????? where you a 19yr old rape victim of this so called middle aged homo??? lol!
the guy in the truck is like a flightline supervisor. he's probably a senior or chief master sergeant, we had them in charleston. our's was a fucking dick!
That's called Airfield Management. They clear birds off the runway and do FOD checks periodically. At least, that's my guess at who it was. There shouldn't have been anyone else there.
yes it did take forever, its an 11,700 feet runway, my friend was at the end of the runway and he said it took of with about 300 feet left, i live next to the trees at the beggining of the runway. He was full of cobra helicopters.
i dont quite understand your question but if the question is if its the biggest plane in the world?? the answer is no. Until now the biggest flying machine is the Antonov 225. The C-5 is the largest in the USA i believe

When I first heard these giants in RPLL
I thought it's an aircraft that's going to crash...
It scared the hell out of me when I was a kid while it was taking off..
But if it weren't for these Horrorific sounding engines, there might be no CF6 and GE90..

I work on AC-130's but hot damn I do love the sound of the C-5's with the older motors, not the new ones.

That's the longest runway in the caribbean (BQN Aguadilla Airport, Puerto Rico). Used to live 2 minutes from there, old Ramey Base.

Didnt sound right to me. Lots of high revs from the engines @ takeoff & whilst stationary, but not a lot of speed until a long way down the runway.
