  • way to make this about shane, a hole

  • i sat for a while at the cross at finnoe... i listen to this song almost every morning when im walking to school

  • Oh I love this so much - heart and soul - way to go, Shane and God Bless Liam Clancy xx

  • ok..... this isn't the official vid of The Broad Majestic Shannon, but I love this version :)

Just notice he's changed the lyrics to mention Shane :) He has the same love for Shane MacGowan that everyone should

  • for shane scanlon from uncle Dan scanlon. enjoy it mate it could have been wrote for you, R.I.P. LIAM CLANCY your what being irish is all about..

  • I love how Liam changes 'Babe' to 'Shane.' It's the most beautiful interpretation of Shane's poetry I've ever heard!!! Shane then sings The Parting Glass. I love seeing Shane with the Irish greats, same as I love it when Billy Joe is recognized & acknowledged. Great poets should be acknowledged & celebrated--poetry is a medium of the people!!! The educated elite would patent it & dole it out in self-righteous crumbs if they could!!! Perhaps they are even working on yokes & bridles for us. . .

  • Love you shane; thankyou for the the soundtrack for my family. And thankyou Liam Noni (5th gen Aust but all Irish)

  • Still hard to believe he is gone! Where is the next Liam Clancy? He won't be auditioning for this years X Factor! Talent? Do they know the meaning of the word? Watch this video & they may get it!!! We miss you Liam!!!

  • almost makes me cry.."dry your tears Shane, forget your fears Shane"

  • This is one of my favorite musical moments of all time. I saw the Pogues and Shane at the 9:30 club last month. Shane sang incredibly. RIP Liam Clancy, one of the greatest voices ever heard. This is so brilliant. Thanks to whoever made this excellent recording.

  • Wow it is so great to be Irish, No other Nation can Compare to us, we have a Shite economy but the good and great in all that makes us Irish Gives us a Unique abiltiy to give the World a few minutes of what being Irish is all about, Proud to be sure..

  • @irishblood62 yeerrrrrrr

  • Best cover.

  • I think that if angels can sing, they probably sound like Liam Clancy.

  • RIP Liam. We'll miss you. I certainly do.

  • Shane=Legend.

    Liam=Legend.

I see nothing wrong here. And his "Shane" interludes are just beautiful.

  • very touching version, thanks

  • Is this not perfection or what?

  • i cried like a baby. thank you shane.

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written...

  • Wouldn't Liam just be the coolest grandad in the world :))

  • Shane wrote this for the Clancy's? Can you link me to something that goes into further detail about this, did he write many other songs for them?

  • @DwnAszPunk Don't know about whether he wrote more for the Clancy's, but Christy Moore has covered at least 3 of his songs (Fairytale, Pair of brown Eyes and Aisling). He released Aisling before Shane did.

  • my god, this filled me with pride & tears..fantastic liam..

  • jaysus thats unreal stuff

  • Take my hand "Liam" and dry your tears Liam. Forget your fears Liam. theres no pain, theres no more sorrow, there all gone, gone in the years..

RIP LIAM CLANCY AN IRISH LEGEND!

  • great song.

  • u could be as frigid as the arctic and as shallow as a kiddie pool and still that song would move you

  • Wonderful stuff. Thanks for posting.

  • We're working on it

  • Can this be found on CD ?

  • only on 'if i should fall from grace with god' by the pogues

  • @jmjk63 tHIS CAN BE FOUND ON LIAM CLANCY'S LIVE DVD CALLED THE BITTER END OR ON HIS FINAL ALBUM CALLED THE WHEELS OF LIFE

  • Cheers Willie!

  • God Bless you Willie

  • Yeah very good! fantastic!!

  • R.I.P Laim

  • Shanes a mess but he doesn't deserve to be patronized. I like his version better.

  • @christkiller08 i cant see any patronising.

  • @christkiller08 Thank feck someone said it. This is incredibly condescending. Just horrible.

  • @christkiller08 this is an homage to the songwriter. Are you that fucking stupid? Liam Clancy is an Irish legend, who's paying respect to the great shane mcgowan. Maybe I could kick you in your ugly fucking teeth in to knock some sense into you.

  • @drubie67 Didn't Shane write this for him? They are both from Tipperary (well, Shane's family are).

  • Love this song and Liam is brilliant singing it, just a pity the Clancy brothers did not get to sing it together. Well done Shane McGownan for writing such a great song for the Clancy brothers RIP to all of them.

  • Fantastic!

  • God rest your soul Liam. I saw you in 2007 sitting in Starbucks with your daughter and your wife. You came over to me to say hello. It brought back so many memories of being little listening to those old crackling Columbia records. Thank you.

  • You could hear Ireland, its history, its pain, its joy and its people in the voice of Liam Clancy

  • Wow -- this is stunning. Potent stuff. Dry tears, indeed! Thanks for posting.

  • "Take my hand, and dry your tears . . . SHANE!" God that kills me.

  • poor Liam. I wonder did he know he wouldn't be with us for much longer during this performance on account of his illness. he seems so sad, old, at peace and reflective in this video

  • Yeah.

  • R.I.P Liam, Pure magic

  • sorry but i like best the pogues version....shane is really a great songwriter!!!!!!! I can't wait to see the pogues in London !!

  • Pure heaven, the greatest ballad singer singing a song wrote by the greatest ever song writer. long live shane and liam, cant wait for the pogues in the olympia dublin this saturday night

  • Liam's dead man. Ps: I was at he Saturday gig in the Olympia. Dya not remember Shane dedicating Broad Majestic Shannon to Liam.

  • Not as good as The Pogues version.

  • i didn't realize that shane had written this for someone else, but i think it's actually good that shane recorded this first, because it's very personal to him, and his childhood...it's a beautiful song...and i love it....

  • fantastic post, love it too, this is a great version...Long Live The Pogues

  • Iv been a macgowan worshipper for about 15 yrs now, his songs have shaped my life and his lyrics mean so much to me! More than that my children now live in tipperary, about 5 miles from carney!....listening to that reduced me to tears...long live shane xx

  • great song if u close ur eyes ull find urself in somewhere in tipperary with shane

  • wooo

  • oh rigth srry i have the dvd anyway and i know he comes on but liam said wat i said at a concert i went to in cork in may09 so i will take wat he said for the truth

  • I only heard this song in May when Liam did an interview on Irish radio. This is a beautiful song, but only only made more poignant for me because I know some of the places that Shane McGowan refers to here. Shane's mother is from Carney and he used to spend his summers there with a cousin of mine. "The cross of Finnoe" is only a mile from my grandmother's house where I spent many a summer holiday!

  • must have heard the original a million times and never really listened.maybe it takes a cover to realise what a song it was.wonderful,powerful,moving.thanks so much for posting

  • i had the honour of meeting this man in person. it was the greatest time of my life

  • first time ive heard this version...very movin and powerful, love it

  • beautifull.

  • it's dry your eyes babe!!!! why is singing Shane???

  • he is singing shane because he said he feels shane singing about himself

  • Anyway..I love this version...beautiful..

Shane is best...but this version is so...

    so...

  • he sang: Dry your tears Shannon? or Shane?

  • This man has come full circle. I seen him live recently, highly recommended!

  • This song has captivated me. Shane's work sang at its best.

  • I love this music it just chills be to the bone what a great song written by a great man and sung by a great singer.

  • Im getting tickets off my dads friend and also some backstage passes.

    i cant wait.

  • genius song- awesome performance and interpretation. cheers from brooklyn.

  • Bob Dylan said it all - the best ballad singer of them all

  • One of the most beautiful songs of all time. Great to see Liam has recorded it at last! It's stupid to laugh and it's useless to bawl about a rusty tin can and an old hurling ball..

There's no pain, there's no more sorrow

They're all gone, gone in the years Shane..

  • shane forever, watched the pogues last nite fukin amazing. god bless the one and only shane macgowan - an absolute genius of a poet - underrated as fuck, hes only remembered 4 farytale of new york by most people.

songs like this bring a tear 2 my eye

  • Well said fishf8z! Luckily, we know better.. Shane at his best is probably the best songwriter ever. Who else has wrote songs as mindblowingly beautiful as this? Shane MacGowan forever!

  • This is a terrific version of one of Shane MacGowan's best ever songs.

  • my dad playes guitar with one of his guitar players he gets us tickets to his gigs sometimes

  • It will be out on DVD in USA next year.

  • That's just great! I can't wait. 'fraid this is probably the closest I'll ever get to seeing Liam in concert.. So it's much appreciated! Thank you!

  • This show in its entirety was quite a production. Get it if ye can. I saw it on RTE lately.

  • Ahh! Need this DVD in US compatible version. :( Liam is just.. beyond words. Near impossible to see him or get any DVD like this in the US. Kills me.

  • god bless shane mcgowan

  • This song by The Pogues its my favorite i just know it,i have listen to it almost everyday since March 20th, i always sing it when im drinking, love it dearly, pure genius, Shane voice is very diferent from any other song he sung,i love how it is romantic,slow,happy-sounding and bit melancholic at the end mate,to me its the ultimate irish song. TIMELESSS Im not even irish, im Mexican: Irlanda para Siempre!!
