I don't believe Iran wants nuclear war. I believe they want nuclear weapons as any nation with nukes will not be invaded by USA or Europe, With the recent GOP candidates almost promising to invade Iran as soon as they get the white house, Iran would be crazy not to notice that USA has avoided attacking Nuclear powers.
I think this guy is not seeing the real picture of the regime. Look up the 1988 prison executions, I think this regime would be more than willing to engage in nuclear war.
@SuperBenzid The Iranian regime may be genocidal, but they're not suicidal. They want to keep themselves in power and starting a nuclear war with the US or Israel would be the end for them. Ultimately, the theory of deterrence makes much more sense than the apocalyptic cultural argument. Were Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Kim Jong-il, and many successive Pakistani government any crazier than Iran??? I don't think so.
@jacqueline716 Hmmm well to be honest I would say Stalin and Mao were a little less crazy and Kim Jong-il a little more than the Iranian Regime.
I don't think they would use nuclear weapons against Israel or the USA though. I think they definitely end up using them against their Sunni neighbours though. Or at least their possession of them would cause them to become significantly more aggressive in the region. Their hope of a pan-Islamic Shia revolution has not died.
@SuperBenzid Mao's great leap forward starved tens of millions when he told them to stop farming and produce nothing but Iron. Stalin starved almost 30 million to death in the Ukraine just because he didn't much care for the terminally religious Ukrainians. Kim Jong starved about 1 million a year until his death - and no end in sight for that policy.
As much as I think the Iranians are messing with things way above their pay grade, they pale in comparison to any of those regimes.
One of the things he says in this interview is kind of stupid. You don't need a high percentage of people for a revolution. Iranian revolution was considered the biggest percentage ever at ten percent. French revolution was one percent. Just saying revolution is about extremeness of a minority most of the time. They often have a lot of sympathizers in general populace but sometimes they don't.
Stop draping mock-US flags with skulls over our downed drones and give us back our soldier who was visiting grandma, stop dicking around with pursuing nukes, don't even think of blockading Hormuz, and maybe the world won't come down like a lightning hammer on Iran.
Sad state, seeing as the Persians are one of the greatest people on earth, too bad they still think Al-Ghazali had their best interest in mind.
@xadam2dudex you can have duel citizenship if one of your parents is a US citizen or if you were born in a US territory, but keep the citizenship of your other parent or the country you were born in, although it is obviously also dependent on the citizenship laws of the other country. Naturalized citizens, however, have to give up their old citizenship.
@adam2dudex That's not how Iranian citizenship works. If you are American-born but you have an Iranian father, then the government of Iran views you as an Iranian citizen and will issue you an Iranian passport (if you were to travel to Iran). In that case, it's "jus sanguinis" or citizenship by descent. Thus, it is involuntary and VERY difficult (if not impossible) to get rid of. This law doesn't apply to the children of Iranian-born mothers...not surprisingly.
Great interview! I definitely agree that Iran is a rational actor (in the international relations meaning of the term) and that the theory of deterrence is applicable to the calculating mullahs of Tehran. They may be crazy, but they're not stupid as Hooman Majd stated.
this just proves that when the republicans say that somebody or another country is doing something it means they are the ones that want to do it like start an apoctlipal war
Michael Brooks sounds slightly stoned. Maybe he's just a queer?!
