It's also a status symbol like a "trophy wife" that their wives can't work and dont have to because their husbands can afford it. Many girls didn't have a choice (young age), they needed a husband and without binded feet you wouldn't get a marriage.

That broke the toes, so they bent it further and broke them again, they wouldn't let the toes heal. After a couple months the feet would be completely attached to the sole of the foot, then they would remove flesh and put the foot inside of itself for smaller feet. Really sick isn't it?
