  • When it comes to immigration....I'd rather take 5000 Canadians like Mark Steyn over 1 Liberal anti-American like Bill Maher.

  • Sparta was making peace with these invaders at the later times, and fought other countries with their help. Talk about politics..

  • @PsychStudentUSC as well as killing of uppity slaves, and deformed children. Spartans are great examples of an ugly brutal militarized society of mostly oppresed helots.

  • Cons are really funny, they model themselves after children;s comic book heroes.

  • the persians are still trying to do the same thing xerxes attempted and fail at during those times now, except now they use terrorism and invade your open borders spreading islam.

    same war different battlefield.

  • LOL

  • Mark Steyn has a great book, America Alone... good read with insightful witty observations! I recommended reading it especially for those who are concerned about the what Islamist extremists and hoodlums are waging in Europe and Canada!

  • Nonsense statements.

He is not making any argument about what the Spartans did as good or bad, just that they weren't ambiguous as to whether they should do it or not.

  • ummmm what?

Also why do conservatives get author deleted byt conservative authors here? just want to know.

  • exactly that is equal to time travel, by making a clear unambiguous stance that the stagnant 8th century has passed and has no place. I wonder though what this says about western civ. which is welcoming the 8th century back right into their home.... and even worse is heralding and applauding it.

  • I dont understand your point are you implying the spartatns were wrong in fighting off an imperialist invasion by Persia???

  • Legba74, I don't need a dictionary for "damnatio memoriae," but I might need one one for the word "cos," becauuuuuse I'm not sure what that word means.

  • 300 is a CGI movie that was filmed on a soundstage right here in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I don't think it's a Hollywood film because it's actually AGAINST the bad guys and not reflecting on how they "angered the Persians and deserve their wrath". THAT would have been a Hollywood movie, and it would have won Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

Unless Michael Moore had a movie nomination that year.

You mean like Kingdom of Heaven? I believe that's an example of the sort of movie you mean. Though, thankfully, it didn't win.

  • @soapfiction 300: Canadian

    K of H: English

Maybe you need a geography lesson

  • @jakefree24 You clearly need a lesson in the movie business, Douchey McNitpick.

Being shot in Canada does not make a film Canadian. It was produced by an American studio (Legendary Pictures, located in Burbank), which makes it an American film. Not all Hollywood movies are shot in Hollywood, pal. And, for the record, when people say "Hollywood movie", they mean any big budget movie from the US or UK with Hollywood-level actors. Kingdom of Heaven was most certainly one of those films. Grow up.

  • @soapfiction 300 was shot and directed by a Canadian. Besides, anyone who knows squat about the Spartans knows they were the Nazis of the classical world, whose one claim to fame was helping to defend the more civilized Greek city-states. KoH was directed by SIR Ridley Scott, and shot in Europe, so saying Hollywood is incorrect and weak. It makes him sound like just another 2 bit talk radio host.(hmmm)

  • @jakefree24 Zack Snyder is not Canadian. He was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Look it up.

Spartans, Nazis of the classical world? Please. Most civilizations in Greece at the time weren't much better than Sparta, and none were 'civilized' by our standards. At least in Sparta, women had rights, unlike in "democratic" Athens.

Ridley Scott is, in every sense, a Hollywood Director. He has made several Hollywood films, and KoH was partially funded by 20th Century Fox, a Hollywood studio.

  • @jakefree24 And for the last time, being shot overseas and by a foreign director does not make a film a non-Hollywood one. Several Hollywood films are shot by Europeans, or overseas (for example, Scott directed Black Rain, a US film, in Japan). To be a Hollywood film, all it needs is to be funded, in some way, by a studio from southern California. Face it: you don't know what you're talking about.

Ooh, you made a reference to conservative talk radio. You're so CLEVER, and SOCIALLY AWARE!

  • @jakefree24 they weren't what I'd call Nazi's lol, yes they do show parallels, and hitler did love them..but they had a few practices that the nazi's probably wouldnt have liked, they were very openly homosexual. So careful with the nazi calling lol.

  • it's called history cos you're not supposed to use "damnatio memoriae". And if you don't know what it means, get a dictionary.

The Greeks won cos they won. We wouldn't be here if they didn't but we wouldn't be like we are either. You are what you know, and at that time, in that place, Greek knew far better.
