  • This guy does not know what he is doing because that a finishing pad not a cutting pad and that's not even the right pad for that porter cable machine

  • you never showed the scratch

  • You always use a dedicated pad for each product? Ok...how about using a dedicated pad for the machine your using? Your pad flapping around like a pancake wasn't a red flag to you??? You're dragging the cord along the fender too! Plus, how convenient for you that you're polishing a silver vehicle. Nice choice, cause if this was a black vehicle....oh boy, haha. Stop detailing asap. And what scratch!? I saw nothing except improper technique here. Thanks.

  • hey old man dont do that lol that is a 8 inch 3m polishing pad u r using and im pretty sure it was designed for a rotary buffer and not for the tiny PC ..u know nothing about polishing/detailing ..leave that to the pros

  • This only removes the chipping of the clear , eg something was just lightly rubbed on the paint.

If its a deep cut , like rubbing a wall, it won't remove the cut.

  • remove this insane video, you know nothing about detailling.

  • I love when ppl lean on my truck when there done working on it...........WTF!!!!!!!!

  • YOU SUCK

  • first of all, that is a 7424...orbital. You cant burn through paint with one of these things if you try lol...also, why an 8" pad? And why the fuck are you polishing with a glazing pad?

  • Amazing what is on you tube and the fact that there is so much incorrect information floating around.

  • Fail, dont listen to this guy.

  • why would a 2009 tundra have hella scratchs FAGG!

  • what scratches on this vee hickle its like brand new ? Boom this is better then the shamwow and you know germans make good stuff

  • All this video did was bring out the retards, so just go fkg detail your shit & shut up.

Ash1955 brought in the intelligent input.

  • Hey dipshit thats the same pad.. Maybe you should buy a real buffer and stop using that grinder.

  • Wow, you don't know shit about what this guy is doing. And a Portacable is a real buffer noob.

  • I'm really getting fucking pissed off at these gay army fucks who think "detail" means to give orders to a soldier. When used as a verb, it defines the steps in cleaning, claying, polishing, and waxing a car.

  • why would that piss you off? need a tissue? so what? ..its a stupid word and a stupid argument for this word. gay army fucks huh...let me bet..navy? or best of yet you arent in the service and have a big mouth. and i think detail was used in the military far before it was used on cars. nice try

  • why...does it really matter? its this one of the biggest problems that need to be solved in this world? im sure you misuse a lot of works. so stop being a youtube nazi.

  • @donepearce . The word detail has many meaning. Just use a online dictionary to find them. The usage here has come from attention to detail which is used in the process when cleaning a car to perfection levels.

Or are you just being "pedantic".LOL which means a narrow view point without attention to detail !

  • Pedantry IS attention to detail; it has nothing to do with a narrow viewpoint. And just to be pedantic once more, that would be "an" online dictionary. And of course you meant perfect levels - perfection is a noun, not an adjective. I can go on like this all night ;-)

  • @donepearce Pointless then. I'm off to detail my car.

  • <<<<<<shakes head.........

  • this video is poor. doesnt explain anything or help anyone who doesnt have a clue..which is surely the only people watching this?!

  • how about starting off with the first two basics dick head?

First, make sure the area is clean

Second, dont do it in direct sunlight

third, you never even showed the scratch or how to determine what you need. You never determined how deep the scratch even was...

dont watch this if you dont have an idea of what youre doin

  • If i get holograms, i polish the surface again with less compound and continue till the compond is not visible on the paint anymore. Sort of second-pass, then apply wax and use a good microfibre cloth and wipe it off. Also some paints are more sensitive for polishing, not even saying it is only with dark paints.

  • I do not trust men with such hats.

  • ok, nothing but bad comments again on a video about touching up scratches. Can someone please direct me to a good video with accurate information. All you people who seem to know this is wrong must know what is right.

  • monkey see videos and wahlan are pretty good

  • @walshjp. Go to a good detailing forum site like Detailing world or cleanyourcar. Loads of pro detailers on those sites who know what their talking about. There both UK sites, I'm a member of both. You will find it hard to find good videos on here, but there are some. The problem is you have to know about the subject before you can tell the good from the bad ;-)

  • use a rotary next time if u want to be a real pro

  • It looks like he's using the white sauce from a japanese steak house on it. XD

  • these people are anything but experts!

  • lol

  • This video is as wrong as his hat!

  • Orbital ????? What the f---- This guy looks like he should be selling C---- I never saw any scratch...Did you?

  • all expert village videos make expert village look bad.

and i think detailing comes from the fact that you clean all the way down to the fine details but what the fuck do i know, i'm not featured by expert village

  • Im a professional detailer, angling the pad like that causes holograming and buffer trails...big no no

  • for the record this video is makin expert village look bad

  • excuse me, it is not making it look bad. It's already is stupid ass a cows behind.

  • he needs to take those fucking sunglasses off and see there is no fucking scratch there hahaha fucking moron

  • hahaa haha nice

  • Detailing?..... oh so thats what your calling "Cleaning your car" now days.

Fucking hate people that make something sound like only they can do it!

  • well you can see the difference between detailed car and, washed car.... but the amount of effort and money is a big difference as well.

so i am sticking to somewhere in between

  • I seriously just watched this?

  • dude u need to get a 6" pad not an 8"

  • Isnt that pad too big for the backing plate?

  • If you are new to scratch removing, I recommend do it by hand with a cotton cloth. Watch the edges. This instruction is missing many basics as of how to with out causing more damage.

  • complete idiot, many school boy errors. get this tat off here, shame to REAL respected auto detailers!

  • do you know the best way to get "swirl" marks out?? and i herad wax was bad, use glaze is this true?

  • Sie sind ein Arschloch

  • An 8" pad on a Porter Cable, scratching the hell out of the fender with the cord from the Porter Cable, scratching the hell out of the finish with a watch that you shouldn't be wearing, polishing in the sun... you're the kind of hack that gives pro detailers a bad name. You should remove your videos.

  • i never seen the scratch....how is it gone if it wasnt there?

  • high speed buffer will give you better results

  • uSUAL COMMENT

wHERE WAS THE SCRATCH IN THE FIRST PLACE??

  • Why would i listen to you, when i fail to see the scratch as a witness of your logic in dealing with scratch remover on a car? 3:16 a waste of my time.

  • well that was a waste i saw no scratch to begin with

  • I saw no scratches removed - FAIL!

  • Comment removed

  • this guy is a sack of shit

  • this dudes a fucking idiot. I do this stuff for a job at an autobody shop. His technique is wasteful of the compound and will end up leaving you with long unessasary amounts of time on one area of the vehicle dont listen to this guy.

  • how about wet sanding the scratch out? he didnt even adress that option. use a dewalt high speed buffer and diamond cut meguiars to remove fine marks , buff to brilliant shine!

  • he is a g

  • he didint even show us the scratch!!!

  • Wow, that pad is WAAY too big for the pc! 6" should really be the biggest you go. anything bigger is ineffective because all the extra pad hanging over isn't doing anything because the pressure you put on the machine can't pread out to the edges of the pad. Also, you should start at 3 to work the polish in and spread it around and then step it up to a 5-6 for the actual polishing.

  • can his voice be any more boring

  • the other stuff out there just cover crap up, then with the same 05996 you use the black 3m foam pad to help remove the scratches, the if you want to go further you can use ultra fina from 3m also, and used with their blue foam pad. that is the best way to remove swirls and they are gone, then wax at the end with a clean pad on a orbital.

  • way. When you have a scratch in a metallic paint your chances are very slim in removing it because if the scratch is deep enough it actually moves the metallic in the paint, you might get the whiteness out for a while but it will return, you always start with a while wool double sided compound pad, then you move to the yellow polishing pad to start enhancing the surface and using 3m # 05996 glaze, the best on the market,

  • Take a pound of liver and a pound western style brots and put them into a blender. take this slop and put it on the scratches. Just leave it there for about a day for it to harden. Once hardened do not remove it, just leave it there and you will never see the scratch again!

  • blimey

    wont be following this lol

  • Yea, so I never seen the scratch so how do I know one was even there?

  • It magically appeared and disappeared. Like his job if his boss ever sees this.

  • IDIOT PC's are not man enough and the pad he is using it too big and its a polishing pad not a compounding pad etc I could go on!

  • the PC is a good alternative to the rotary and does well on medium to light jobs. It does start to lack when the paint is in really bad condition, but with the right pad and compound selection the PC yields great results.

  • he put the same one back on lmao

  • CREEPY!

  • what a fool. this guys an idiot! i'll bet that tacoma is brand new and doesnt need shit.

  • One clue is don't wear a watch when you polish on a car like the guy in the video. Otherwise the rest of what he says is good.

  • Very true and avoid wearing rings too when waxing, trust me I know.

  • I dont know much about detailing but i will say this about the detailers commenting on this video. they all seem extremely competent and more realistic and helpful then 90% plus of other commenters on other videos.

  • Removing scratches with an orbital or DA polisher is a pointless, low quality, and time consuming exercise. Those machines are not intended for cutting and removing scratches. They are best used for color enhancement (glazing) and for applying protective coatings (waxes & sealants). I haven't checked out much from Expert Village but I've found their detailing info to be consistently wrong.

  • Then what can be used to remove scratches? By the way, can you recommend any books or vids that teach how to detail automobiles? Thanks.

  • Polishing compound and a rotary buffer with a cutting pad will remove most scratches. Wet sanding will remove some worse scratches and orange peel as well. Best to hire a pro if you haven't used these tools/products yourself yet. It's not rocket science but it takes a good eye, some practice and a little finesse. You'll find some pretty decent, reasonably priced books and vids on Amazon if you're looking to get instruction on pro detailing.

  • any suggestions on books?

  • ah this guys was on DATELINE NBC TO CATCH A PREDATOR.

  • crap

  • Guys, keep in mind that not all pads are the same. If it's a 3M pad, then he is using the mild cut/polishing pad. That said, man is this a horrible demo.

  • this guy is an idiot...

    1. PC is a Random Orbital Buffer.

    2. Too much pressure he is applying.

    3. NEVER TILT!

    4. Grey pads are for light polishing/waxing... no way it will take out a moderate scratch in the Clear Coat...

    FAKE!

  • There's no way you can remove scratches with a grey pad. You need at least a white or orange/yellow for more cut.

  • Too funny.

  • There you have it, the scratch is gone.

Didn't even see a scratch in the first place.

  • That looks like a D/A to me with a 3M waffle pad on it which would do F-all.

you need a Chicago Pneumatic CP8210 Polisher they are the bollocks.

  • i think this is a very poor way of removing scratches people dont go by this you will end up doing more bad that good to your paint!

  • 3m rubbing compound still leaves swirl marks. just like that other crap farecla

  • Hmm...there are a few problems with your technique. First off you are using a compound with a black pad. I am going to guess that this a waffle 3M pad. It is 8" in diameter, and too large to use effectively with a porter cable 7427/Meguiar's G100.

  • The black pad does not have any cut to it making it almost useless with a compound. When you use it withe compound the abrasives may now be able to break down. Secondly I would be hard pressed to see you burn paint with the porter cable 7424 and a 6.5" pad never mind a 8" pad.

  • I agree. I have the DeWalt orbital that has a slightly more powerfully motor than the Porter Cable one and I would never worry about it burning through the paint.

Now, my Makita rotary is a different story. It can get through thin pain quick if you're not careful.

  • Using an 8" pad can only yield a great amount of vibration. In fact, your arm speed should be sloweed down so that you can effectively break down the polish/compound. Doing so could make your life easier as you could save steps with the swirl remover. Not effectively breaking down the abrasives in a product with diminishing abrasives could leave the finish scoured with compound scratches.

  • maby u should tell us how to remove sand scratches. ill tell u, wet sand your whole vehicle with 2000 sand paper grip till u see a whitish stuff to come out, then use 3m rubbing compound and buff that motherfucker with a professional buffer, after that, your whole vehicle will look like new and scratch free = ]

  • You should use the least aggressive method that you can. You don't go straight to wet sanding if some light compounding or a polish will get the marks out.

  • well it depends. for example i took my car to the car show and had 2 models pose on the hood in blue jean shorts! made some scratches and used the 3m rubbing compound and was not enough, i had to wet sand, look kinda pale and used 3m rubbing compound and looks like breand new = ] but 2000 sand paper won't hurt it if your doing it right.

  • Yeah, you use compound, didn't take it out, THEN you used wet sanding. That's the correct method, but jumping on wet sanding for any small mark, isn't what you should do.

And wet sanding is a pretty serious paint correction method. It's easy to remove 99% of your UV protection from the clear coat when you do it an expose the more porous under layers of the clear.

  • yeah thats true, like i won't be able to do it again, im pretty sure the clear coat is pretty thin now. Bmw finishes are real delicate.
