I once was told by a non CDL driver," yo, your blocking the street!" I told him,"yeah, no shit!" And if they dont like him going over the curb, make your stupid roads wider.
im going to say that was awesome, ive never backed up a truck like that, ive never even driven a 18 wheeler, ive got to sit in 1 with my grandpa before. It would be so cool to drive 1 of those
I hate those trucks with the big front end becaues they are so hard to reverse in tight places. But its got to be said.Bloody good driving.I know it is a very hard place to be when everybody is looking at you and the pressure is on.but that driver stayed focused and got the job done under pressure. There are good drivers and there are bad ones and he is a good one.
Ridiculous having a such a long prime mover like that for city distribution. If it was a short wheelbase cabover any driver could get in there first go without going back and forth and humping the kerb.
The Tennessee Performing arts center is no picnic. Two docks, with a big down ramp just inside the doors on curb side of the far dock from this view, Also the docks are at an up angle from the street, to have the trailer floor level, the PAC often times hires a wrecker to hoist the nose of the trailer about 10 feet in the air to level it out. 53 foot long trailers and 244 inch wheelbase trucks and larger are not advised
@auburnboy - hate to ask you that, but what is a master driver? I've been driving for 20 years now, but that is a new term for me. BTW...I've been there in the docks many of times (was one of my designated runs) and it is NOT that hard. Just gotta now how to set up your rig. BTW....just to blow your head off...I'm 5'6, 103 lbs...and a woman. So don't give me that master driver lalalala.....
@YnnisGlytyr I know that skill levels vary, but anyone who can do what this driver has done (or can do better) is a master driver in my opinion. I have a lot of respect for freight drivers, both local and over the road. And yes, I've seen several women drivers park in that dock and make it on the first try!
"Master" drivers don't drive on curbs when they are "expertly" backing UP.... especially with that much room. Guess that's why you are video taping and work on the 6th floor and not the top floor!!!
Nothing Special there. He had LOTS OF ROOM. Try that in Chicago where you have a two lane road with cars all over the place and traffic that won't give you a break.
@auburnboy141 Yes, we work in the same building but on different floors (he's on 10 and I'm on 6.) I've been meaning to tell him that over 40,000 people have seen his face since I posted this video!
@auburnboy141 By chance I was on the 10th floor this afternoon and remembered the video. I stopped by his cubicle and asked what it felt like to be famous. He didn't understand at first, but when he saw himself in the video with nearly 43k views, he was amazed. It was the high point of his day.
You need an old 9670 Cornbinder to do this with, and screw auto transmissions as you have to get the engine speed up to engage clutches and you are backing at 20 miles an hour. Give me a 9 speed manual anytime.
@tribaltalon1 kinda sorta is backing into a tunnel./garage/portal. guy did pretty good. i hated this place. course i always came in during rush-hour too that didnt help my stress level any
Great job bud, I don't run into very many situations like that in Montana..just Canadians who don't know how to drive there cars. Like a wise old trucker told me " if your getting flipped off and people are mad at you then your doing your job right".

Yeah that looks like a shitty place to park a tractor trailer. Some of these places should just not allow 53ft vans in there. Send in a day cab with a pup trailer.
@Brandon26pdx Its all about money, They had rather put 1 truck driver through hell trying to get a 53ft through the city instead of sending 2 straight trucks to do it.
@cobudho I know exactly what you're saying. I've delivered to many Home Depot stores in Brooklyn, NY in a 53ft van with a Pete 387 and picked up at a metal scrap yard in Queens, NY. I had a Freightliner Classic XL with a 53ft van trailer for that last one.
One day when master driver rick b. backs in without driving on sidewalk, he will advance to jedi driver rick b.
