  • I would clarify the point: Amish 'shun' modern things, but they in themselves are not evil things. It is the dependency on man created things that they feel corrupts a person, so they don't use them, as a rule.

They are not stupid people either. A lifting machine that could lift a load off of a hurt worker much faster than rigging up a team of horses could, is smart and thoughtful thinking. It made setting the 2 main sections in place 100% safer.

No harm, no foul, all you finger pointers.

  • Actually in most cases were they have electricity in their house it is a generator. A lot of Amish are using some form of electricity. The reason they are known not to have electronics is because it takes up time they should be spend with the lord in pray and study. Most of them are truly caring and nice people. I grow up next to a huge Amish community. And some of my best friends are Amish. They are very open and kind. If you every have a chance to talk to someone from the faith, please do.

  • looks like a rush job to me

  • They teach that it is wrong to use electricity, but when they get sick, and have to go see a doctor and be put in a hospital for medical care , now all of a sudden it is ok to use electricity. If using electricity is wrong sometimes, why is it not wrong all the time? Religion makes a fool out of people doesn't it, and really sends a lot of people to hell, but Jesus Christ the Son of God saves. Aren't you glad that Jesus never said: Thou shalt not use electricity.

  • @moseseseseses Amish rules are kind of complex and dont suit simple reduction well. But they basically take note of the fact that Jesus healed on a sunday and took that as a "Follow the rules closely,,but saving lives is paramount above all." The electricity thing is more cultural anyway, they feel compelled to live "The old way", but not at the expense of letting someone die of an easily treated disease. I think they are admirable.

  • i like Amish

  • seeing the trucks sort of kills it.

  • It's time for the midnight barn raisin!

  • They must be New Order Amish...or whatever it's called!

  • Boom crane. Either these are unothadox Amish, or they want to go to hell

  • its all wood. it can easily catch fire

  • @TheSzeder True enough, your point is what?

  • @OregonAlleyCat It's more dangerous, than a brick or concrete building:)

  • Comment removed

  • @TheSzeder Yes a wood framed building is more susceptible to fire, obviously. However, with proper planning and caution this risk can be mitigated. Again, whats your point?

  • @OregonAlleyCat Use brick or concrete instead of wood:D

  • @TheSzeder well wood framed buildings, lioke our house are cheaper to build and they go up quicker than brick buildings.....

  • amish dont use a boom crane, the use ropes and muscle

  • Looks like ants building their home

  • Wow - I see the explanation for the truck and boom truck [crane] being there . . but I'm surprised they would allow this to be filmed.

  • gnarly!

  • nice now lets see them raize it

  • you mean raze... a backwards barn razing!!

  • hahahaha that was an awsome movie

  • I thought they didn't use cars

  • I feel so freakin lazy after watching that.

  • Wow, it's so cool how they all help out.

  • Seems to be a pretty liberal Ordnung, with the trucks and all.

  • The crane was there only for safety. There were so many English volunteers it was decided to have a crane for precaution. The Amish crew would have done it the traditional way if there had been enough of them. There were only about 20 Amish. They recruited a bunch of locals to help on this day, so it was decided that for the safety of the volunteers, a crane would be a good idea... a very Amish characteristic indeed! The framing was raised by manpower and the timbers were all pegged.

  • pa has the legit amish

  • Good job on the video.

  • seems like everyone helps in amish

  • i saw one guy in the crowd looked like he was standing there for hours, "hey get to work buddy!!"

  • what people don't understand is there is different types of amish, all have embraced different technology, even the wheel is considered technology and all amish use that. fact is amish families sit down and decide what technology is acceptable to use. Most amish families have at least one car and one tractor!

  • That sounds more like Mennonites with the car and tractor.

  • I see a crane. Thats a sin.

  • ahahah

  • Here in Pennslvania, we build our barns 2 stories high. Our Centre County Amish do not even use any power tools. I'm not bragging, I'm just passing on some interesting information.

  • why have they pickups and normal clothes

  • What the hell!

Lose the crane and do it the old school way.

  • Cool video

  • These were old order amish coupled with english helpers. all amish use chainsaws and most that have outside business's use cellphones. even the amish ahve to keep up with the times.

  • actually they don't have cell phones. If they need to make a phone call they will borrow an english persons phone but they won't carry one of there own. My parents live in amish country.

  • ive seen many amish with cell phones. i think just have to only use them for special reasons.

  • all the amish out in Missouri aren't allowed cell phones of there own but every district is different....

  • With the technology and community interaction more then likely they are Meninites not true old world Amish...

    Great vid though...

  • it's spelled mennonites, not meninites

  • no no. its MEN-o-Knights. duhhh

  • yeh

  • i work with amish sometimes and they got cell phones and chainsaws and other power tools..they never folllow any law..they were pouring used oil in a hole they dug...but they had sweet beards...guess that meant they were married.

  • What are those trucks doing there?

  • they are the "english" peoples trucks

  • I'm sure the last little bit was finished another day. YOU try completing a barn, with all your friends, in one day! :)

Very neat video. I have to admire the work ethic and community spirit that the Amish have to complete a project like this.

  • They didn't finish it.

  • They finished it.... I didn't! It got too dark on the first day and it was finished up the next day. Regrettably, I never went back for the last shot. I did get the best part tho.

  • It's a really cool video anyway. Good idea.

  • The main crew were Amish who came to Nacoochee Valley to raise the barn. There were only about 10 of them... not enough to do the barn raising alone. The rest were local volunteers who had never done a barn raising before. The crane was there only as a safety measure to prevent any accidents or serious injury. The walls were raised in the traditional method. All pegged together. The crane was just a precaution.

  • amish ppl don't use a lot of technology n all tha lol

but still it looks real good wen u speed it up fair play

  • oh thats funny since they dont belive in cars and they were using one this isnt real amish people
