  • Wow! Just made this today and it was absolutely delicious. I think this will be the second Mac N Cheese to become a regular item at my house. Mac N Cheese Deluxe being the first.

  • This looks amazing! I will have to make this on my cheat day

  • I love comfort food. Thanks for the recipe. Will make it later today!

  • Lokks yummy Betty. thank you

  • mmm, made this tonight (but with yellow cheddar) and the kids gobbled it right up!

  • This dish got RAVES on Christmas (and for left-overs last night too!). Thanks so much for putting this together. We all really enjoyed it.

  • 8:11 heart attack

  • Oh my lord this looks good.

  • This recipe will feed 8-10.

  • Easy to make and everyone loves it!

  • That look so good I think I'm gone make that cause I love white cheeder cheese ....I love it

  • Hi Betty, how many does this serve? I want to make this xmas eve and i have 13 people...

  • @evilapplepie This is a large casserole. It will serve 13 people. I am assuming you have some other dishes to serve with it.

    --Betty :)

  • I love your videos I always feel so informed. And you do very good at covering all the bases.

  • what if I can't find white cheddar cheese? Would other white cheese suffice? Like mozzarella? Would that still give the same "sharp" taste as the cheddar?

  • @kimey2012 Yellow cheddar cheese will taste the same as the white. Just get the sharp variety. You may substitute any cheese that you like the flavor of. (Mozzarella will not be as sharp.)

    --Betty :)

  • I want that NOW :)

  • What does baking it do to the dish? Can I just skip that step? all of the ingredients are cooked..does it give a more blended flavor or something? also..great recipe..thanks!

  • @thelaurenator3008 It has a different consistency when baked. I think it is much better than creamy mac 'n cheese. I have a separate recipe for the creamy variety, but this is my all-time favorite macaroni and cheese.

    --Betty :)

  • Betty, how will you keep this until Christmas? Will you freeze it or will it be okay in the refrigerator?

  • @FWooten I froze it, and I will thaw it in the refrigerator for a whole day before baking according recipe instructions.

    --Betty :)

  • You have a nice personality, very warm and welcoming. Thanks for sharing your recipes!!

  • What a Winner!! I made this tonight for the kids. I have 2 teenage boys, and while my husband was grilling the steaks, they ate the entire thing minus one portion for their Dad. Wow, they loved it! A keeper for sure! :) xx

  • Thank you so much for sharing this. I am totally making this for Christmas

  • WOW BETTY! This looks good and easy thanks for teaching us. :) .......Could you use turkey bacon!....????

  • @shahbaz54 Thanks for your nice comment! Yes, you may use turkey bacon,

    --Betty :)

  • this looks yummy betty, i prefer white cheddar mac & cheese over the yellow one.

  • How do you stay in shape with all these recipes? Could you please do a video and give us some tips on how to have a healthy diet? And some ideas on what to do with leftovers?

  • @iphonefan3000000 I exercise and eat small portions. I have a video on the exercises I do at the gym.

    --Betty :)

  • Question for Betty: What type of bacon do you recommend for this? =)

  • @Evany1989 It doesn't need to be any particular type. I generally get Fisher's Mellwood bacon.

    --Betty :)

  • best mac &cheeese... end of story

  • hi Betty,i don't have oven,.. is the taste still the same if i don't bake it?

  • @ilovebuden It's creamier on the stove top, but still very good!

    --Betty :)

  • Oh.my.goodness, it looks heavenly!!!

  • looks delicious (: this is pretty close to my mom's baked mac & cheese (: but instead of bacon she puts stewed tomatoes in it, the stewed tomatoes and sharp-white cheddar mac&cheese is amazing together (: but normally she uses about 2 cans, but im a tomato fiend so i open another can of stewed tomatoes and heat them up and add them, also for leftover mac&cheese i like to put it in a skillet and "fry" it to heat, so some noodles are crispy XD

  • That Looked so Good! Going to have to make this.I won't be adding the Bacon though since I'm a Vegetarian. I make that White Sauce when I make Biscuits and Gravy. I just add a lot of pepper. Thanks Betty for Sharing! Love your Video's.

  • oh man, this looks great on a cold day like today. yumm!

  • That looks good, I love any type of mac and cheese, thanks Betty!

    --Betty :)

  • Thanks Betty. Looks like a nice Comfort food dish. This Big kid will be making this later today.

  • My mom makes this same thing except she doesn't make mac n cheese she pours the sauce over shredded hash browns and bakes it YUMMY =)

  • Betty, this recipe looks absolutely delicious! And thank you for a terrific tip for the bacon. Merry Christmas! I love your food, recipes, and ideas!

  • When you said "This will be a part of our Christmas table, so I won't be taking a taste of it for you." Do you mean Christmas eve dinner, or just the (Christmas-themed) family dinner the day you taped this? If it's the former, I'm curious how long it keeps in the fridge? I might make this; just wondering if I can make it days ahead before Christmas eve.

  • @Zhaquiri I want to know the same thing. Or maybe she puts it in the freezer?

  • @Zhaquiri This is just my YouTube Christmas Table. I make the dishes that freeze well (or "cure"--like the whisky cake) first. Then I make the ones that can be refrigerated. On the day of the meal I make the main course and accompaniments and just heat everything else (which I will have thawed in the refrigerator). Macaroni and cheese freezes really well. It is better to freeze it before it is baked. On the day you bake it, thaw it thoroughly and bake. Perfection!

    --Betty :)

  • @ItsOmarBro Omg, are you serious???? You do not need to talk that way around here.

  • That is a beautiful macaroni and cheese! White cheddar makes such a nice, snappy dish too. Now, where is my fork? Barb

  • Mmmmmm!

  • How funny that you posted this bc last night I made Mac&cheese w bacon for the first time!

It turned out great, here's what I did:

Cooked a whole box of elbow Mac

As soon as it was done I drained it and added it back into the hot pot. I quickly stirred in 1 stick of salted butter ( cubed ) and mixed in shredded sharp cheddar cheese and shredded smoked Swiss cheese. Once it was all combined I added a few splashes of milk to make it more creamy, next I added caramelized onions and crispy turkey

  • delicious like always

  • your fine cooking is going to be the death of me! re: in rich flavour and in loving tasty treats as always! :P

    xo+

  • I don't like bacon either.. So should I skip it?

  • @xxSalma1964xx Yes, skip it. This is a great mac 'n cheese recipe without it.

    --Betty :)

  • that looks so tasty! nice recipe!

  • When you say dishes are for an upcoming holiday... Do you just freeze them all?

  • @MoreThanJustSkinDeep I make the dishes that freeze well (or "cure"--like the whisky cake) first. Then I make the ones that can be refrigerated. On the day of the meal I make the main course and accompaniments and just heat everything else (which I will have thawed in the refrigerator).

    --Betty :)

  • Thanks Betty! I make mac n' Cheese with the same sauce (Thanks to one of your previous mac n' Cheese Recipies) and putting Bacon into it sounds great, I will Be sure to try it out! Thanks again for one of your Wonderful Recipies! :)

  • Us, young ones, look to you for good home cooking recipes. Sadly said, that has been lost with the younger generations. Any thougts on that? Why is it that nowadays you would be hard pressed to find young adults that actually know how to cook from scratch? I'm curious as to you and your viewers opinion regarding this topic?

  • @hvyweight20 I would love to see people doing more of their own cooking, rather than eating out so much. It is really easy to control your weight when you are cooking your own food. You know exactly what you put in it and whether you should limit yourself to a small portion. Yet, you can still enjoy all the normal and festive foods--just not overdoing it!

    --Betty :)

  • I didn't know that about the cheese betty :) Interesting. All I knew is that I have always preferred the white cheese, lol. Boy, do I wish that you were MY grandma. Lol. I cab assure you that I would be overweight because everything always looks so good, yet is very achievable. Thanks again grandma, lol. Take care.

  • Hey Betty !!!

    Cheers Susan

  • YAY I CAN DO IT TONIGHT! I have all the ingredients!

  • Another great recipe. ANYTHING that joins the words "Mac" and "Cheese" will always get my attention.

  • That looks absolutely incredible.

  • betty!

can i substitute the milk with cream instead?

    Jake

  • @KHooooi Yes, cream is fine.

    --Betty :)

  • @rachellesim1013 the butter and flour mix is called a rue. bechamel is a type of sauce. I think, lol

  • hello betty!

is sharp cheddar cheese okay to substitute it with white cheddar ? i dont know where to find white cheddar.. =S

    Jake

  • @KHooooi Yes, sharp cheddar cheese will be great!

    --Betty :)

  • @KHooooi Yes, sharp cheddar will be great!

    --Betty :)

  • Isn't the butter, flour and milk mixture call Béchamel? Not rue?

  • @rachellesim1013 butter + flour = RUE

rue + milk = BESCHAMEL (or white sauce) ! :)

  • What is White Cheddar?

  • @rachellesim1013 Cheddar cheese is naturally white. The dark yellow in cheddar cheese is from a coloring additive from a plant called annatto. It gives the naturally white cheddar cheese an orange appearance.Though there are different varieties of cheddar cheese, such as mild, medium, and sharp, the annatto does not contribute to the difference in taste. It is how long the cheese is aged that gives cheddar cheese the different flavors.I chose sharp white, just for a change.

    Betty:)

  • So good!

  • Thank you Betty!!! MMMMMMMM (I don't eat bacon, but looks so good... sometimes I use ground beef). Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, XOXO <3!

  • Heyy Betty this looks good =] Is there any alternatives to bacon because I really dont like it.

  • @gymnasticslover96 You may leave it out or substitute small cubes of ham.

    --Betty :)

  • WOW! Now this I gotta try :-P

  • it seems really good !!
