Wow! Just made this today and it was absolutely delicious. I think this will be the second Mac N Cheese to become a regular item at my house. Mac N Cheese Deluxe being the first.
what if I can't find white cheddar cheese? Would other white cheese suffice? Like mozzarella? Would that still give the same "sharp" taste as the cheddar?
@kimey2012 Yellow cheddar cheese will taste the same as the white. Just get the sharp variety. You may substitute any cheese that you like the flavor of. (Mozzarella will not be as sharp.)
What does baking it do to the dish? Can I just skip that step? all of the ingredients are cooked..does it give a more blended flavor or something? also..great recipe..thanks!
@thelaurenator3008 It has a different consistency when baked. I think it is much better than creamy mac 'n cheese. I have a separate recipe for the creamy variety, but this is my all-time favorite macaroni and cheese.
What a Winner!! I made this tonight for the kids. I have 2 teenage boys, and while my husband was grilling the steaks, they ate the entire thing minus one portion for their Dad. Wow, they loved it! A keeper for sure! :) xx
How do you stay in shape with all these recipes? Could you please do a video and give us some tips on how to have a healthy diet? And some ideas on what to do with leftovers?
Hi Betty, I just wanted to let you know that your vids are amazing! your recipes are always perfect, by the way you should go on the next food network star! you should have your own show!
looks delicious (: this is pretty close to my mom's baked mac & cheese (: but instead of bacon she puts stewed tomatoes in it, the stewed tomatoes and sharp-white cheddar mac&cheese is amazing together (: but normally she uses about 2 cans, but im a tomato fiend so i open another can of stewed tomatoes and heat them up and add them, also for leftover mac&cheese i like to put it in a skillet and "fry" it to heat, so some noodles are crispy XD
That Looked so Good! Going to have to make this.I won't be adding the Bacon though since I'm a Vegetarian. I make that White Sauce when I make Biscuits and Gravy. I just add a lot of pepper. Thanks Betty for Sharing! Love your Video's.

@Patsymd Thanks, Patsy! Better Homes and Gardens sent me the whole set of cookware, plus a skillet set. They describe it as Tri-Ply Clad Stainless-Steel. I love it.

@kokonutbaby1 Hi Angie! So great to hear from you! Thanks for your lovely comment! I hope you enjoy the mac 'n cheese *with bacon*!!! I hope you are doing fine, and I wish you the happiest of holiday seasons.
When you said "This will be a part of our Christmas table, so I won't be taking a taste of it for you." Do you mean Christmas eve dinner, or just the (Christmas-themed) family dinner the day you taped this? If it's the former, I'm curious how long it keeps in the fridge? I might make this; just wondering if I can make it days ahead before Christmas eve.
@Zhaquiri This is just my YouTube Christmas Table. I make the dishes that freeze well (or "cure"--like the whisky cake) first. Then I make the ones that can be refrigerated. On the day of the meal I make the main course and accompaniments and just heat everything else (which I will have thawed in the refrigerator). Macaroni and cheese freezes really well. It is better to freeze it before it is baked. On the day you bake it, thaw it thoroughly and bake. Perfection!
How funny that you posted this bc last night I made Mac&cheese w bacon for the first time!
It turned out great, here's what I did:
Cooked a whole box of elbow Mac
As soon as it was done I drained it and added it back into the hot pot. I quickly stirred in 1 stick of salted butter ( cubed ) and mixed in shredded sharp cheddar cheese and shredded smoked Swiss cheese. Once it was all combined I added a few splashes of milk to make it more creamy, next I added caramelized onions and crispy turkey
@MoreThanJustSkinDeep I make the dishes that freeze well (or "cure"--like the whisky cake) first. Then I make the ones that can be refrigerated. On the day of the meal I make the main course and accompaniments and just heat everything else (which I will have thawed in the refrigerator).
