They never bring The doctor in to save the day because everyone knows the Doctor can do anything, and there wouldn't be enough drama for torchwood if He did save the day. PLus The doctor always saves Earth, i dunno what Gwen was on about, whenever the Earth is in trouble he saves it because it's his favorite planet and it's where he gets his companions from

the reasone why i think the doctor dident stop the 4.5.6 is because it might have been a fixed point in time and he couldent intervean becasue it would break the laws of time so he had to stay away and im sure he would have helped but thats got to be the only explanation

yea that's what always bothered me about torchwood, I mean when it was aliens just threatening Cardiff or coming through the rift (basically series 1 and 2) it makes sense for torchwood to deal with it, but bigger things like children of earth or miracle day there is no reason they wouldnt just call the doctor to help out, i mean i love the show they just need a better explanation of why the doctor cant come

What I want to know. Is if the doctor knows his history and knew about Adalaide Brook and her looking at a Dalek. Then why did he not know the earth was going to get stolen in the first place before he partook of that adventure?

I always swore the reason the Doctor didn't save them was the same reason Sarah Jane didn't interfer; He was busy gathering up the children and grandchildren of past companions to keep them safe . That's my theory and I stick to it.

sorry bu i think this is the most unliky ending to the season 3 the doctor was traveling on his own personal history and torcwood is so much better withought doctor being there to support jack and i think it makes jack so much stronger

Isn't that basically Journey's End? Torchwood were powerless and couldn't save the world, then the doctor comes and saves everyone! With help of course....

I think that Gwen might have been wrong about that. Im not saying that what the human's did in this tragic tale is right. But perhapes the Doctor did not save the day because the 456 crisis might have been at a fixed point in time that he could not interfere with.

Clearly it wasn't, as Jack was able to prevent it ultimately.

But Maybe the doctor knew about Jack's Grandson and knew that the only way to stop the 456 was to use him as a means to transmit that signal. I am not saying that humans are not shameful. But it would not be the first time the doctor helped people who were. Saving steven could have released time reapers or he could have been the father of a dictator in some timeline. Besides Gwen doesn't really know the doctor that much anyway.

@bobobano I've always imagined Jack being called out by the Doctor on that score and replying "Yeah, I know it's not pretty. But this is the sort of shit that happens when you're not here to stop it." Which was basically Harriet Jones's explanation for getting Torchwood to vaporise the Sycorax ship - as a warning that humanity was starting to look after itself. The Doctor bringing her down was IMO ennui at being called out on his own arrogance
