Wow, this guy actually made this move, which had unlikable characters, unneeded flashy action scenes with nothing to do with the plot, random subplots that could have been cut entirely, and just overall bad-ness, and turned it into something enjoyable. Kudos to you.
You would think that after saving Naboo, everyone on it including the Senator of the known Universe, that someone, I don't know maybe Anikin would have asked that his Mother be bought out of slavery for his good deeds.
You might also think that someone, I don't know, maybe Anikin or Obi Wan, after about 10 years of bad dreams would have mentioned to the Jedi Council that it might be nice to buy his Mother out of slavery.
One thing I don't get is that with all that advanced technology why does a guy have to transmit a message outside in the pouring rain? Hell, I don't even have to do that now.
OK, WHY do the animals have to be herded towards the trio during the execution? I think they've been starved sufficiently enough to be encouraged to find food on their own.
These edits are awesome, btw. Thanks for posting.
One thing I never understood is why would a professional program an assassin droid to return right back to them? It should self destruct upon completion of the mission.
Towards the end. His new master orders that "...the two droids (C3PO and 32D2) be brought onto the ship and have the protocol droid(C3PO)'s mind erased." Possibly for recommission.
@justforfun22727 if you have played the game star wars: knights of the old republic, it gives you some insight on how a lightsaber is made. although it does not actually specify what the battery is. a light saber consists of some kind of energy cell, a focusing lense, an emitter, and of course a crystal (for color). other than that i have no idea what kind of energy cell it would be.
@XtcTalentX This. So many people fail, miserably, to acknowledge this. But, you know, let them enjoy the version they think is better, and let us do the same. This is the only way of ending the debate.
all the moments that convey any serious feeling between anakin and padme have been taken out.. his feelings for her made him turn evil, which is what the entire 6 movies are about.. them moments are crucial! especially if you hadnt seen the originals.
@XtcTalentX You should check out the commentary track on my channel. The editor explains his choices regarding the painful Anakin and Padme scenes very well.
a good story is written as a monomyth , a heroes journey, episodes 1 and 2 dont folow any kind of structure for a story, you cant feel anything for anyone in that movie.
I felt more for the kid in home alone than i did for anakin in these movies. Hes a fucking mutt and his mom is a lying whore
Star wars could have been so much better, so much more good.
@XtcTalentX all those emotional scenes were pretty much what killed AotC....i skip past them because they are just so painful and no one cares. except for the bit where Padme is wearing the Leather corset dress thing...wowzas
@XtcTalentX these moments fail miserably in conveying serious feelings. They convey awkward feelings, Awkward moments. Oh God how awkward has Lucas become.
@XtcTalentX WHAT feelings? Their expressions of so-called "affection" are so stilted and artificial they are wholly unbelievable. Real human beings in love don't behave like 12 year olds fumbling through a school play!
I like leaving out the scenes of Anakin and Padme playing in fields of grass, then lying down in them and talking or whatever. That scene was so horrible to watch in the theatrical release. The images of Padme with her 'family' were better; but isn't Padme supposed to have inherited a family position of nobility? She was clearly referred to as "Queen Amidala"; and in "The Phantom Menace", she lived in an enormous and elaborate palace. What's with the simple family life?
This version is pretty good. There were some deleated scenes they should've used, and some parts that were very unnessecary. But I don't think think guy should've removed the Jango Fett VS Obi-Wan fight, both on Kamino and in space.
K how can you edit scenes out of a movie you never directed and then claim any kind of ownership to this video are you crazy man get real and ya:) thanks for the movie that you posted that s it posted on you tube your an insult to director s .

If you put as much effort as you do hating, criticizing, and re-working someone else's SUCCESS in creating your own original stories and original films...forget it. You'd still fail miserably...
@RevengeOfTheKaizer Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...what? Huh? You say something, kid? Oh...you're trying to seem "adult". Ok. Go masturbate more at that asswipe RedLetterMedia's video a few times more and come back with some more 'wittier" reasons why everything in the world sucks.
This is a great re-edit, at least someone understands why i hate Episode II a lot, but this re-edit made me feel like showing this to George Lucas and saying" That's how you do it"
Getting rid of the "action relief" was a bad move, especially the Jango/Obi-Wan space battle, which the editor says in his commentary is what audiences want after the edit to the Kamino scuffle. Also, it leaves a big gap as to where the damage to the fighter came from...
@RevengeOfTheKaizer It ruined his long-range communication, which forced him to contact Anakin on Tatooine and involve him.
The Phantom does mention in his commentary that the CGI damage to the fighter was added later, which may mean that the initial rationale for the communication issue was simply distance, which is weak compared to actual damage.
@BrettR4763 Obi-Wan clearly stated that Coruscant was just too far. Remember that he's in the Outer Rim and Coruscant is the capital of the Republic in the Core Worlds. He never even seemed to bother with the scrapes and blast marks on the sides of his ship.
Admittedly though, George doesn't seem too concerned with things like that. Somehow, after leaving Naboo (which is in the Mid Rim territories) in TPM, they decide to head to the Outer Rim to Tatooine for repairs which is a huge detour.
@RevengeOfTheKaizer Which is why AOTC lucked out with the addition of the space battle damage and why the Phantom should have kept it in. Kamino was in the Outer Rim too, yet Obi-Wan called Coruscant just fine.
And yeah, Lucas really screwed up the plot of TPM. So forced...
@BrettR4763 Fair point about Kamino. Bit of an inconsistency there, not to mention the bad strategic implications of having the sole source of the Clone troopers being in enemy territory or at least close to it.
But really the biggest problem with the prequels in general is the heavy focus on politics and the fall of the Republic/rise of the Empire rather than on the characters themselves. In the OT you didn't find out how the Rebellion or the war started/ended nor was it even important.
@RevengeOfTheKaizer absolutely right, you're totally 100% correct, and even the politics are way fucked up. I understand politics in real life (I'm libertarian I ♥ my machine guns) I understand more politics in real life than in the movie, if you can believe that!. It's terrible when politics in real life make more sense than in a should-be-well-thought-out starwars prequel that will be with us forever. U should check out redlettermedia's take of the prequels, their legendary
@RevengeOfTheKaizer Kamino wasn't in the Outer Rim it was in Wild space a region beyond it that hadn't been to well explored. It was also fairly remote so it wasn't near any CIS system or Republic for that matter. Since I'm on a roll Naboo is closer to Tattoine then Corruscant which is on the other side of the Galactic core from them. If they had to divert because of the leaking gas tank it's not that far off for them going by the maps. I agree that the characters were secondary to the politics.
@RevengeOfTheKaizer no no they were not headed for tatooine they were headed for....something I can't really remember what because to be honest I couldn't care-less because if I see the TPM again, by court orders, i'll go on a killing rampage and murder Lucas and everyone whose fault it is that the TPM is the worst movie ever made, PERIOD. Remember its court orders so I can't watch it and tell you where their headed, you'll have to, but they were forced down onto tatooine
@de4th1snt3nough Lol, as if I haven't watched RLM's reviews a thousand times by now. :P They were heading from Naboo to Coruscant, meaning from a planet in the Mid Rim to one of the Core Worlds, and yet somehow backtracked themselves to the Outer Rim where Tatooine is. I guess the Force must've guided them there, or some other such BS. xD
@RevengeOfTheKaizer lmao god yes! and lets also wonder why the fuck couldn't queer gon gin just kill middle eastern allah allah allah waldo whatever junk dealer and steal the part and install it and fly the fuck away from there, if the republic has no authority there then who gives a shit?? the fate of the universe is in their hands or whatever and they gotta pussyfoot around wtf??
@de4th1snt3nough Because Qui gon is a Jedi, not a murderer. Even most slimebags pay for the stuff they need. Being better then those slimebags and assholes is also how you win things like trust, freedom, and democracy. If you lie, rob and murder when it suits you then you're not better then any crime lord or Sith. You know the people they're fighting with the for the sake of the Galaxy at large.
Regardless of where you are certain rules apply to your personal actions. Be a good example, etc.
Damn, one of the first things I would've cut is "Zam is a changeling" "subplot." Would've been pretty easy to hide. Also, in this cut, if Anakin doesn't jump on her speeder, HOW DOES HE KNOW SHE'S A CHANGELING?
Cutting a lot of the "speeder chase" was a bad idea. Really makes the editing more obvious. Why is Zam hiding in a club when she has a perfectly good speeder? Why are Anakin and Obi-Wan converging from two separate directions? Why does Obi-Wan hand Anakin his lightsaber?
Made Anakin a more likable character. Though I think the part where he tells her about killing the sand people should have been cut, i fail to see why she should would marry him knowing he did something like that, and then get shocked in episode III when he does it again with to kids. This is still a bad film not because of this edit in fact it made it a little better, but at leased you dug a little deeper into the characters, Padma's family scene made those 2 characters feel more human for me
Some of these edits are pretty good and some are not really enjoyable or nessisary at all. I do really enjoy seeing some of those cut scenes back in the picture though. But this is kinda like the Donner cut of Episode II. And I don't mean that in an "Its totally Better" sort of way. But thanks for posting, just the same. Fun too finally see.
Okay, so after reviewing the orginal theatrical cut which when I viewed this, I had watched a bit ago, I noticed that I enjoyed the orginal more. Why? Because since you cut scenes which I call "action relief" it makes the movie move much slower. The cuts of the stupid love scenes are great, but the cut of some of the action sequences make the bad dialouge more prominent. You had a very noble effort, but it doesn't really work for me. I hope Phantom Edit is better.
i dont see why Drax had to build a space station and take his chosen few up there whilst he unleashed his poisonous gas over planet earth to kill humankind and then return himself to build his master race...he already had a air tight chamber located in the science lab in his house that would have kept them all safe., why didnt he just take his chosen few there and then release the gas, just seemed like a waste of time and money..
@mswt93 One time my DVD player broke, and wouldn't stop the movie. my friends and I watched those same 30 seconds about a hundred times before we got it to work again.
@xXxSuBxXx001 So, you're talking about the Current Republic that was established after the New Sith Wars? Because the "New" Republic was established by the Rebel Alliance shortly after the Battle of Endor.
a better edit... but scriptwise still bad... there really isn't a logical reason why they could not have freed anakins mom after episode 1... they had all the money in the world at that point...
Too bad I didn't see this version of the film first. It's so much better. I still have the memory of the original cut in my brain with those god-awful, pointless scenes...
Great edit. Just felt that the bit with Anakin leaping onto Zam's speeder should have been kept because it would justify Anakin suggesting she is a changeling and also justify why she abandons her speeder and runs into the club.
This sucks bantha shit. Yet another Jar Jar and Hayden hater. This time with a computer and some editing software. I couldn't get past the butcher job done on the speeder chase.
@KirKanos08 This editor just made the worst of the prequels, into a good film. He's a Jar Jar hater (Who isn't?) but not a Hayden hater. He's a decent actor, but was given some God awful dialogue for this film. The cuts made his character stronger. We now have sympathy for Anakin, before he just annoyed the crap out of everyone.
Please tell me Mike cut out the scene where Anakin tells Padmé he comited genocide and Padmé just says "DUUUUUUUUUH IT'S OK ANNE CUZ YOU WERE JUST MAD DERPY DERP!!!!"
The pointless fireplace scene I hate that scene it was stupid this version is better and feels like the original trilogy. I also like the idea of showing the deleted scenes of Padem's family and Obi-Wan departing Coruscant
actually watchable lol

Okay, so after reviewing the orginal theatrical cut which when I viewed this, I had watched a bit ago, I noticed that I enjoyed the orginal more. Why? Because since you cut scenes which I call "action relief" it makes the movie move much slower. The cuts of the stupid love scenes are great, but the cut of some of the action sequences make the bad dialouge more prominent. You had a very noble effort, but it doesn't really work for me. I hope Phantom Edit is better.

i dont see why Drax had to build a space station and take his chosen few up there whilst he unleashed his poisonous gas over planet earth to kill humankind and then return himself to build his master race...he already had a air tight chamber located in the science lab in his house that would have kept them all safe., why didnt he just take his chosen few there and then release the gas, just seemed like a waste of time and money..
oh hang on...that was Moonraker..:)

I refuse to believe you cut 'This party's over'. It's Samuel L Jackson, the line is so bad ass.

@mswt93 One time my DVD player broke, and wouldn't stop the movie. my friends and I watched those same 30 seconds about a hundred times before we got it to work again.

Should've edited out palpatine's line "stood for a thousand years". The Republic was around for at least 20,000+ years.
TheHeroofShadows000 4 months ago
@TheHeroofShadows000 When Palpatine says that, he is referring to the "New Republic"; the "Old Republic" was destroyed.
xXxSuBxXx001 4 months ago
@xXxSuBxXx001 So, you're talking about the Current Republic that was established after the New Sith Wars? Because the "New" Republic was established by the Rebel Alliance shortly after the Battle of Endor.
TheHeroofShadows000 4 months ago
@TheHeroofShadows000 Yes, but when Palpatine said it, the "New Republic" that was established buy the Rebel Alliance hadn't been established.
Basically, Palpatine was referring to the current Republic.

@xXxSuBxXx001 Ok, now I see.

a better edit... but scriptwise still bad... there really isn't a logical reason why they could not have freed anakins mom after episode 1... they had all the money in the world at that point...

KirKanos08 5 months ago
@KirKanos08 This editor just made the worst of the prequels, into a good film. He's a Jar Jar hater (Who isn't?) but not a Hayden hater. He's a decent actor, but was given some God awful dialogue for this film. The cuts made his character stronger. We now have sympathy for Anakin, before he just annoyed the crap out of everyone.

@chrimigules Me too. I think R2-D2 would make a great playmate/babysitter.

The Padme family scenes are great to make those characters more human and it was stupid to cut them in the first place.

Great edit, Mike J. Nichols! While you can't edit Anakin's crappy acting, at least you made his character much better!

@yodaya70 Action isn't what makes Star Wars good. The whole saga is a character study.

The pointless fireplace scene I hate that scene it was stupid this version is better and feels like the original trilogy. I also like the idea of showing the deleted scenes of Padem's family and Obi-Wan departing Coruscant
