  • Since my partner and I started to thinking about having children I can't help but really relate to this section:

I've always thought the end of man would be exactly what we need for the earth to stand a chance. And I always thought I'd be fine if this happened if my lifetime, now that I'm a mother it is really terrifying.

  • Your so inspiring to me and my best friend

  • Kimya I think you make differences with music like this, maybe its not huge now, but you still are.

  • what are the cords? i wanna learn to play this.

  • @sunshinespace Em G D C repeat.

  • @mrskimyadawson whats the stum pattern? is it possible to play it on a ukulele?

  • Dear Kimya,

    You sing my soul.

    Love,

    Karenina

  • This is so powerful. All the world needs to see this.

  • the world needs to go solar.

  • this is not my normal style of music, but FUCK YES! she is brilliant, and shared

  • probably one of the most powerful songs I've ever heard.

  • I'm scared and sad and mad too. i don't have a car and i do have a garden but somehow i don't think that's enough

  • And then she got in her car (gas)and drove to the store to buy some carrots for some juice(carrots which arrived to store by fuel) flicked on the light (fueled by coal) unless you are Amish you just are another conflicted person. you dont need to believe in conspiracies to realize that you live by the addictions you preach against. When you grow your own food and walk, then you can preach. the "feel bad" group catharsis that makes people think they are better than us other dumb addicts.

  • ur so pretty, inside and out :)

  • Beautiful song. The tears are flowing. Thank you!

  • taking photos of the oil spill is a felony now, plus a $40,000 fine. look it up.

  • The world in never exposed by the people in power, the people who "matter" to the media...

  • You sing my heart

  • You sing my heart

  • I cried. Because it's true.

  • so the oil has stopped flowing...

  • this song scares me because it tells the all the things that we are trying to avoid.

  • very Buffy Sainte-Marie, i like it :)

  • AMAZING, Kimya!!!! told just like it is!!!

  • This was so amazing. I had tears streaming down my face. I never realized how much the oil spill affected us. <3

  • Fantastic.

  • Nice Kimya D, keep it up...

  • thank you for sharing, very intense and beautiful. I will be sharing.

  • Amen sister. I am so with you.

  • This is Such a beautiful song. in match to Kimya's Beautiful soul.

i love the emotion, she seems to fighting so hard, to hold back the tears.

"So this may be the end I've always thought the end of man

would be exactly what we need for the earth to stand a chance

And I always thought I would be fine If this happened if my lifetime

But now that I'm a mother it seems much more terrifying"

i can relate with this so well.

  • wow, my blood ran cold when I heard this. Can hardly wait to hear Anti-Flag's cover version too.

  • @incongra

i real hope anti-flag does not cover this song......theres no way they can do it justice.....

  • @bittiemizzophine oh they are going to do it, don't worry about that......this song is huge, it is going viral, it just totally sums up the times we are living in. This song is in the tradition of Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and it must be heard. Long after BP have ceased to exist, we will still have this iconic song. When you consider Kimya is only at the start of her career, it shows what she is capable of.

  • I'm from Pensacola, FL (having to live somewhere else for now). It breaks my heart to see what is happening to our beautiful emerald waters, the beaches, all the marine & wild life! Thank you for sharing your song! The words really give me chills!

I have shared your song with our forum on Pensacola Beach Preservation & Historical Society.

  • @gulfbreezewind I'm from Mobile, Alabama and this song was so hard to hear... had to hold back from crying.

  • @101390 My brother lives in Elberta & drove a skimmer boat near Perdido Pass. We grew up on those area waters. Our children also grew up fishing & playing in those waters. So I know how you feel. He told me on the phone, it is never going to be normal again, no matter what the news, government & BP tells us.

  • @wogboy117 wonderfully articulated, emotive and on the nail

  • @wogboy117 ....wow you must not know what true music is....you like Disturbed...enough said. Kimya sang and wrote this from the soul..you dont see that in the majority of 'music' we have today..You obviously dont know how much damage the oil spill, in the gulf of america, is affecting the Earth (and everything else since were all connected)..and its getting worse as time goes on (i have a feeling itll last much longer, purposely). Damn if only you knew, us humans should really be concerned :/..

  • @wogboy117 and i hope the oil spill makes the oceans and all the animals all die from poisining and wat a world u hipis are so weird listen to metal and kill

  • @wogboy117 youll see your ignorance someday...

  • @wogboy117 maby so but u ppl r gona get bashed one day

  • Wonderfully articulated, emotive and on the nail

  • leave light footprints. seven faces in the soil

  • This song is my thoughts exactly. i dont have children, but i have raised my siblings, and i hate to know that when i, or they have kids, they have to grow to the beaches being disgusting, and not knowing the beauty i knew before this year. Bad things are going to happen, i just the residents that are effected will stand their ground. we have to be the voice of the gulf. No one else is going to do it. This song is PERFECT!

  • AMAZING! post this EVERYWHERE! make it be the anthem of the gulf like jewel's "hands" song was fro sept. 11th!!!!!

  • amazing.

  • its as if you turned my thoughts into lyrics. Thank you

  • thank you for writing this song

  • kimya-you are amazing, we need more of you in this world.

  • i love you kimya. 4 ever.

  • kimya, when will people stop obsessing about world war 3 and start working on world peace 1?

  • Thanks, BSNYC. And I agree davidisaurus.

  • I love this!

Being a mother changes the way I feel about human extinction too...

    I am terrified too.

Rock on and sing your truth! So effing beautiful and sad

  • this song is important. I'm thankful that the world has you kimya.

  • Good show Kimya! Tell the sheople that they're the wolves standing at their own doors. Maybe they'll change their ways.

  • Captain Obvious. I see a light on in the background you should turn it off and stop wasting energy on such crap. Stop having children they consume resources too.

  • may you always be happy.

i love the part "they're lighting turtles on fire!" very nice.

  • beautiful, and heart wrenching. i am SO ANGRY about this, all of this, that we have sat complacent about for far too long. thank you for using your voice.

  • This video sounds 10x better if you click on the soccer ball button to the right of the display.

  • @davidisaurus hahahahahah ... wtf is the point of that button.

  • Trying to convince the people down here that this spill IS MORE DAMAGING than the moratorium is depressing. They react angrily and get violent. Like heroin addicts.

There have been two classes of people here... those who have been cashing the oil checks and those who havent. WE WILL DRIVE BIG OIL OUT... im not sure how peaceful it will be though. Im scared for my family.

  • Don't whisper, sing. Needs more emotion so some parts don't go unnoticed because this song really deservs to be heard.

  • Beautiful Kimya. <3

  • hauntingly beautiful and very thought provoking!

  • Kimya thank you for these words. Why is this not being featured? Not mind numbing enough I suppose....

  • keep drilling........

  • This is beautiful, the lyrics speak so much truth and in a way I could only dream of explaining.

  • Awesome song, yo!

  • Beautiful, though sad. Well done Kimya

  • Wow

  • this is exactly what i have been trying to convey but have been unsuccessful until now thank you!!

  • i love this. it's amazement is in it's honesty.

  • @LotsOfNine

how is it boring? it's captivating. it's the modern version of The Times they are A-Changin, methinks.

  • @LotsOfNine

its only boring to assholes who think that the oil spill is no big deal . if you didn't get her message then you obviously didn't listen hard enough. either that or it just reached a level beyond your comprehension

  • @porterdancer2013 I don't care about the oil spill because i didn't enjoy a boring song about it? hahaha sure thing bud.

  • @LotsOfNine

i didnt actually say that YOU didnt care. there are some people in this world who just could care less. but its not just about the oil spill. its about everything thats goin on in this crap hole we call the planet earth.

  • Absolutely wonderful.

  • Wow Kimya. This is absolutely beautiful, but so sad.

  • this song is so so sad kimya. it's sad because its all true. i wish there was more i could do to actively help.

  • @taylrrina Great question. I think it would be very effectual and powerful to build a culture together that will do great things to actively help than to try to be one hero rockstar trying to help with one brain and two hands. We can be much more than the sum of our hearts, but building and creating is much much much more difficult and time-consuming and heartbreaking than smashing and destroying. Remember that next time you're trying to channel your anger.

  • I love it Kimya! I wished more people listened to your music cause it surely is the truth!

  • @ Leloby, ADHD? Rumours based on lies? Mabey you have found no success because you just plain suck?

  • That's amazing.. I wish it never happened..

  • Kimya, you are the most beautiful woman, inside and out, that could ever be asked for. You're so deep. It's wondrous. I adore you and hope to be like you.

  • Thank you Kimya, your song is so bittersweet.

Amazingly written but I wish it wouldn't have had to be written.

As a mother of four, I agree that our children need to learn to think for themselves and have a voice... it is one of the main reasons my kids don't go to school. It is amazing what children can do and think of when they are not being taught to be like everyone else.

  • Sadly beautiful, passionately heartbreaking traverse of the cliff face that is fleeting past our eyes. When we land I hope we have the sense to sort it out.

Thank you so much Kimya!! I love this song and I love your beautiful heart you share so openly.

I'm so sorry about the turtles. They couldn't have made it more personal if they tried.

  • absolutely brilliant

  • So beautiful.

  • I would rather listen to you sing about it than hear the news talk and debate about it.

Thank you so much Kimya, I love you. <3

  • very impressed with the heart is shouting out in this song

  • thank you so much kimya

  • I wish this wasn't true, but it is, and now the song is written...

  • Just think, even when the oil spill has been stopped and BP no longer exist, We will still have this awesome song.

  • This is beautiful and so heart-wrenching. Thank you Kimya.

  • This is beautiful, just like you.

  • spot on, ms kimya!

  • another beautyful song by mrs. kimyya dawson. will there be a new album soon?

  • So very beautifully said, and true... I think some of us are turtles, and so many more are soft shelled crabs. I don't know how we, or the other living things on our Earth, are going to survive this toxicity...

  • You always speak my heart I swear.

  • Great music as usual. I think I'm going have to listened to it a dozen times or two before I figure out if I like it or not. ^_^

  • Kimya Dawson, you are always amazing. Bravo.

  • great song =]

  • Amazing, the words are stunning. I cannot thank you enough for this song...I keep playing it...we had Joan Baez when I was young and now we have you! Thanks!!!

  • thank you kimya....

  • I LOVE THIS. And I love you. <333

  • Oil Spill?

hehe damn good song Kimya :) thanks for sharing with us

    cant stop listening

  • This is amazing

  • Ughhh sooo good!

  • these lyrics give me chills. i just love the "It's crucial to raise children who don't do what they're told, who will fight for what's right and who can't be bought or sold" part.

  • Amazing lyrics Mrs. Dawson. <3
