Although the jet did not have to brake, it had to perform a wingover maneuver as it passed through 5200ft to ensure when it started its dive it was going in the same direction as the car. The jet has to give up a lot of airspeed to fly the minimum amount of turning radius and remain over the runway.

When you consider the jet was required to fly a mile straight up and add its takeoff roll and pullout from its dive, it ended up traveling more than the 2 miles the car did!

That's not unbeliveable. Cars accelerate trought a physical contact to the ground, and jets accelerate by pushing hot air back. It allows high speeds but not fast acceleration.
