Solo soy un neofito, pero puedo decir que Brantelid realiza una ejecución llena de colorida pasión... A mi juicio esta sonata desborda pasión, y Brantelid la vive y la contagia.
I'm working on this piece right now, and I can't stop listening to Brantelid's interpretation! He's got such a beautiful, lush sound and you can tell he's really into the music - so amazing!!! Thank you for posting this video! :)
I think the breath sounds are mainly an issue with very sensitive mics and/or some eqalization that could be done to roll off the high end. You can see how close the mics are to him. Gotta love to the YouTubers who cast hate on the video for it.... I bet few of them could even follow along with the music to this one, much less play it!
@makuletboy it's a Arpeggione. Similar to a cello but it's tuned like a guitar and has 6 strings. I believe.. though someone correct me If I am wrong.
Anyway, I just came home from the EYM competition, didnt make it to the finals, but as i came home I found this piece, youtube'd it and this recording convinced me that I was going to be playing this.
When I let my grand-son who has also uploaded this Arpeggione here watch your performance, he was really amaged by your fantastic performance and was I.
@madaboutvoice I have to say, the first time I heard a recording of Casals the grunting really surprised me, negatively. But then I got over it and focused on the interpretation and performance. He was brilliant.
@UncleTito72 He's not technically the greatest cellist in the world. A lot of people obsess about this and therefor do not respect Casals. I'm glad you aren't one of those...

This is a wonderful song and a wonderful cellist and pianist, but I don't like how you can hear the cellist breathing. For one thing this is a string instrument, not wind, and for anothe, it is kind of frightening while the song isn't at all frightening.

No, I know that, I mean, we can't live if we don't breathe. I'd just rather not have to hear him breathe. It kind of makes me think of serial killers in scary movies.
I noticed the pianist, too. I was thinking how nicely he set the mood before the cellist played a note. And then when the cellist came in his mood matched the piano so perfectly. Beautiful perfmormance by both.
great interpretation! brantelid does a wonderful job shaping those first three notes, and his tone is singing. i like his accompanist too...his phrasing in the beginner is wonderfully subtle and perfectly melancholy, not over-dramatic and forced as the other youtube versions seem to be.
Thank you for posting! I've just learned about this blazing virtuoso from my friend in Sweden who is friends with Andreas' mother. I'm happy to see and hear why his career has been meteoric.
Great cellist. Sound like velvet. Just beautiful.

Breathe all you like young man, breath is life. Casals was a breather and a grunter, and so are most of the best cellists the world has produced.

The cellists breathing is a basic thing! You can't play without good breathing - there's no difference from winds or piano or any other instrument.
