But the bottom line is that they were used in a very notable and successful world record attempt, for which he could have chosen any gear. People who claim they're just for looks aren't seeing the whole picture. Sometimes better aerodynamics at the cost of weight pays off, especially on longer rides with less accelerations.

i think its worth it. THEY ARE HEAVY, I'm pretty sure the extra added weight for each wheel is about 3lbs.

It is more stiff ride, but I like it. To each there own.

Don't buy they thou if you just think they look cool. Aeros last a long time and require no care. I've been riding my current ones for the last 2 years now. No problems here. Just sick riding

howcome people have aerospokes only on the front and not both. i know that theyre hella expensive but im pretty sure thats not the reason. Is it weight? because sometimes, if people don't have an aerospoke in the front, they have a rim with a smaller spoke count.

It's kind of a complicated answer but i'll try my best to explain:

Most fixed gear stuff comes in some form from velodrome racing. aero-rims (not usually aerospokes) are used in track racing because they give you a slight advantage in terms of aerodynamics. it gives you around a .2 percent speed advantage or some small thing like that. this makes a difference on a track. bike messangers take that from velodrome, and there are a couple reasons why they only run the front:

1) messangers say it's easier to run a bike lock through them fast

2) theyr expensive

3) the back ones wear out FAST because of the backwards pressure applied when skidding

4) they see racers only threading one, because in racing the seat tube covers the back wheel, making it pretty useless to run a rear aerowheel
