  • Please come to Cleveland I once asked this beautiful girl I met on the Amtrak train coming back to Ohio from San Diego, when I was out there partying my ass off. She said no, And my life went another direction, probably for the best. But here's to you, beautful.

  • Here I am on Christmas Eve fixing oyster stew.....for some reason I thought of Boston clam chowder and this marvelous song popped into my head from somewhere in the back of my mind. The youtube time machine rules.

  • @CaptNemo100 Ah ha..the traditional Christmas eve oyster stew....

  • This song, and the deep convictions of both parties involved, speak so much to me. I would posit that the ramblin' happening here can be applied to so many of life's complex situations. I am deeply, and forever, in love with a woman who I have been separated from largely through my own inability to "come home." This is a one in 3 billion woman, a completely perfect fit for me in every way , and if everyone on the planet could only know 1/10th the joy she brings me, entire wars would end...

  • This song just popped up in my mind. Haven't heard or even thought about it in years. Would have been 11 then. Was a favorite

  • @bjm6345original I must be losing my mind! Believe it or not this song just popped into my head about a week ago. I don't own a radio now and have been around them on a limited basis in the past. I saw your comment, but I didn't want to respond.....because you have a BACA video on your channel. I write articles against child prostitution....BACA around here I'm not sure what they represent. OK I said it! What the hell?

  • I absolutely adore this song (“Please Come To Boston”)and have for years and years and years (literally since the very first time I heard it performed by the multi-talented Joan Baez herself during the 70s. Thank You so very much for posting it.

  • So I was 20 when this song came out. My family had moved to LA from Chicago less than 10 years before. When I heard the line "an LA life alone is just too hard to build" I knew exactly what he meant. Truer words were never sung or spoken.

  • This was one of my mom's favorite songs. She passed last week and I heard it today playing on the radio in a grocery store. Just had to come home and listen to it again.

  • I want to move to Denver...

  • I am the number 1 fan...

I first heard this as a 11 years old human, got it instantly and understood for 48 - 11 = now thank You for this edition and afterthoughtful upload, IOU and I thank You.

  • I am the number 1 fan...

  • Love this song, brings back so many nice memories!

  • My all-time favourite. This song from his debut album "Apprentice From A Musical Workshop". Been hunting for this song..

  • my number one man from Tn. Came back to me in SASk. Canada really

  • love this, i am a new fan!

  • This song takes me back...Its an outstanding example of A song with a story instead of just a bunch of screaming cursing or talking about bi**hes and ho's....

  • @000Chimera I so agree with you! :)

  • wow... looks like an old school phonograph. My first memory of stereo sound was in 5th grade with some headphones on.. Man,, I was in heaven! music became my calling.. Still working in the sound field 37 yrs later.. thanks for the simplicity, we often forget where we came from... this was the best music from 72 to 85. Music today doesnt tell a story like it used to. thanks for posting. Marko

  • I love this song! Always makes me kind of sad, though. I was 9 yrs old when this song came out-yikes! I didn't think it was that far back......

  • One of my favorite songs.

  • very cool song, I was a junior in H.S. when this was released.

  • Listening to Dave sing this for a small group in the fall of '72, and again in spring '73, we strongly encouraged him to record and release this as a 45. It was clear in its early, rough form that it had the potential to be a super hit for Dave. It was more than a year later that it was finally released - and the rest is history. Entering the Billboard chart on June 1, 1974, this is probably the best thing I recall from that summer.

  • Dave was born in Mountain City, TN. He sure did drop his r's when he sang, though. He hit #5 in Billboard, 8-10-74. I guess it HAS been confirmed that he's Kenny Loggins' cousin. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • one of the best songs ever written. Truly beautiful.

About the re-makes: I think we have to see them as compliments to the original artists. These songs were so great that new artists want to honor the people that gave them this music.

  • kenny chesney remake.....this ones better

  • @wildpig101 You mean Kenny Chesney remade Dave Loggins! lol

  • I have two Dave Loggins cassettes love his music. They don't make music like that today.I can't believe I will be 45 the end of this summmer. The years are flying by. What happened to those endless summers?

  • i wish i had been born in the 70s...todays music is just NOT the same.

  • great song

  • this song has been covered many times, but they all suck.I like this version best

  • Who cares!! I'm glad Dave Loggins sang it.. I LOVE IT..Growing up in the 70's was the greatest and what great music we had..pure and clean!

  • Just another example of how you can't get the hell out of Tennesse because someone's holding you back...

  • @SnowconesAndPuppies

I got out and let me tell you, I wish I were back. The grass is the same no matter what side of the fence it is.

  • Thanks for the analog 45 experience. Much as I appreciate CDs and new-found clarity on old favorites, this gives that certain AM car radio feel & texture (w/o the static).

  • i remember doin tihs song to acid. it's perffect

  • I always wondered if Dave Mason, Dave Loggins, and David Allen Coe were the same person

  • David Allen Coe Wrote This Song

  • @eworldplaza Try again, do your research. David Allen Coe sings a ruined ugly version of this great and beautiful song. But jump on Google and do your search, you'll soon learn that David Allen Coe just didn't have the kind of talent needed to write and create this song. Dave Loggins was the origonal artist. But I know you were just seeking attention by your comment, I know you cannot possibly really believe what you wrote.

  • @Delticola I would Love to watch you go up to David Allen Coe and tell him that he didn't write , { Please Come To Boston } It's not at all unusal for another artist to sing another artists song,

Go to the US copyright website and check that out.

  • @eworldplaza Ok I have another song for you, Who wrote Poncho and lefty ?

  • @eworldplaza wow good ? great song!! I used to have the lyrics scotch taped to my mail jeep.........but drawin a big blank.

  • @eworldplaza Townes Van Zandt.................I looked it up in the wikipedia!

  • @tennesuze Thats right,

  • @eworldplaza you are wrong bro

  • @tyandkim Your Right.Type of Work: Music

    Registration Number / Date: RE0000838074 / 2001-01-02 Renewal registration for: EU0000438709 / 1973-10-11

    Title: Please come to Boston.

    Notes: Words & music.

    Copyright Claimant: Dave Loggins

  • @eworldplaza I don't understand, you've posted that David Allen Coe wrote the song and then you've posted correctly that Dave Loggins claims the copyright. And then you responded to me "It's not at all unusual for another artist to sing another artists song. So which is it? Which is your current position? That David Allen Coe wrote the song and that Dave Loggins somehow obtained the copy rights?

  • @Delticola The fact of the matter is,, they both wrote the song at a party

  • @eworldplaza Kinda a cheap way to say, yeah, I was wrong, thanks for showing me the light and spinning me around in the right direction. But I can read between the lines so thanks for clairifing.

  • @Delticola maybe u should ask garfiedcat5. cause they wrote it together at a party dont sound right, unless @eworldplaza was there.

  • Great Song 1974 was an awesome year GO Steelers

  • This is a love song worth listening too. Yes he is a dreamer, or a visionairy, but if she loved him She would follow him. to the ends of time. I know I will.. Yes Jessee this is your beastkeeper.

  • My favorite 70's love song.

  • This is the GREATEST song every for lover

  • I don't know about you.. But personally I HATE IT when they REMAKE and or edit songs..IE KENNY CHESNEY'S VERSION OF THIS SONG

  • I grew up collecting 45's.....thanks for keeping it "oldskool"!!

  • Don't shoot me...but I always swore this was sung by Glen Campbell : )

  • @tmzrox No, you're thinking of Rhine Stone Cowboy (or at least I am when you say Glen Campbell). Also out in the mid seventies. But I see where you might have gotten confused. They do have some similarites either in the way they sing their lyrics or in the way the song inflections come and go.

  • He was a dreamer and She had a grip on reality..

  • Ahhh I was a whole 5 years old in 1974 and what a great year that was. First of 4 SB of the 70's by my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. A great year indeed.

  • originally, song was written "Please Come to De-troit" then hammond, Ind,, Compton, Cali. In the chorua, "she said No, you come to Kokomo"

  • I'm the number one fan of the man from Tennessee

  • Thanks for posting this classic....

  • @justgonnastay: Your adjective describing your wife says it all..."amazing."

The kids will grow up one day, and you and that "amazing' woman can ramble together. The world will still be there, but you won't be able to get these days with your family back.

    Hang in there.

Trust me on this one! :)

  • yeah been their done that

  • yeah been their done that

  • my dad used to sing this to me when I was a wee babe.

  • This song always used to piss me off. Here's this guy, out there, doing stuff, following whims, seeing America, appreciating what else it out there, and his girlfriend gives him crap about it, like there's nothing better than HER in the whole country!

Now that I have an amazing wife and kids, who I believe there really is nothing better than in the whole country, it makes me sad I didn't ramble a little more in my misspent youth.

    Life is funny that way.

  • Memories gallop from the past and rekindle glory days. Thanks for terrific memories.

  • Oh them memories that come flooding back when I hear this treasure. 74 was not a red lettery year in my family's life but I do have some great memories from around this time. Thanks for posting. One of the greats thats for sure.

  • Thank you for posting this great oldie :!! It was quite a flashback hearing the 45 play with all of the pops and other vinyl related noises : ) LOL

  • it was America during it's Renaissance, now America is dieing on the vine as she has forgotten her roots and disgraced it's founding father's.

  • so lovely and sweet. One of the best.....

  • I had this tune on a K-Tell album from 1976.Hated it then, hate it now.

  • always loved this song! He went to my high school, a few years ahead of me.

  • I found out recently that Dave Loggins also wrote Pieces of April, sung by 3 Dog Night

You know, I think he wrote (and sang) some of the best love songs around - something that there is a critical shortage of nowadays

  • @ramseymarkf The modern day version of a love song is something like "the way I are" Timbaland featuring Keri Hilson. A pretty good modern song but the closest to a modern day love song. Look it up, you might like it, but certainly these days had more creative music, the 1970.

  • what a song wow!!!!!!!

  • Love it..but a tad louder would be nice.....still, thank you for this!

  • My name's Dave, too. Why in the world does Dave drop his r's when he sings. Hit #5 in Billboard. 1 hit wonder. God bless!

  • the wrong loggins sang this......

  • We can sell your panties on the sidewalk.

Please sell your panties.... She just said "no"...

    50 bucks for those?

    She just said no.

  • This is one of my favorite songs!!!

  • "this song really sucks. always hated this song. i know alot of people on here like it.. "

Then don't listen to it and keep your internet yap shut.

  • @jbuckaroo82 and yet you stuck around to listen it....wow.......your mental ability amazes me

  • It's what happens when little kiddies get on the internets and think they are smart.

  • Send your gold to me-in an envelope, please.

  • Is that your needle # written on the tone arm?

  • Thank You!

  • He also wrote Pieces of April, done three Dog Night and Morning Glory,#1 on the country charts by Kenny Rogers. He has also written for Wynoma and Reba.

  • I remember this song in 1974 it was a great year of my youth

  • I'm working on a 36th Anniversary Video for my wife. Will include pictures from the time before we were married as well as the wedding. Both of us are Tennessee natives. This song will have a prominent place in the video.

It's impossible to listen to this song without tears and feeling that it's autobiographical in many ways for us.

I'm so glad that I was blessed to come home to her.

  • That sounds awesome!!

  • David Allen Coe wrote it, unfortunately "back then" he was shunned by radio because of his OUTLAW status.. Rock on DAC!!!

  • DAVID ALLEN LOGGINS wrote this song, DAVID ALLEN LOGGINS recorded this song, and DAVID ALLEN LOGGINS is the reason that this song is one of the best musical works in the modern era. Many fellow performers have covered this song on their own albums so that their fans could have this beautiful song at hand. No one, and I mean no one, has come close to Dave Loggins' version and that includes Coe's run of the mill country cover. The OUTLAW aint stealing this one, not ever.

  • David Allen Coe wrote it

  • I agree this is the definitive version of the song by the composer i also think harry chapin came the closest of all the covers i have heard but what a lovely lovely song

  • My sister babysat for kyle and Erin.

  • A top 5 song ever...

  • many have tried, but no one sing this song like DAVID LOGGINS !!!!!

  • this is the real deal -- can y'all believe the crap covers of this song -- kenney chesney ----give me a f***kn break homey

  • Truly one of the all time greats.

My wife and I both love this song

    Thanks for posting.

  • my my my.... and i thought kenny chesney was the original artist... nice touch! Thanks for posting!

  • chesney will never be the Great Dave Loggins.

  • what are you talking about???- THIS song, and only this song made it to the top TEN!_ so he wrote "one number one hit... thats his career in a nut shell! How many CMA awards has he earned, how about ACM awards- ok...- how many stadiums has he sold out??? Because Kenny Topped "all' artists rock/pop/rap/ect......soo, yes he will never be the great D.L's, but he'll always be King Chesney!

  • You're such an IDIOT. Kenny Chesney SUCKS, this is REAL music.

  • The comparoson you speak of has no merit.Things in 74 were a little different.Loggins outlet was mainly AM radio and a few tv shows on 3 channels.Take a look at the outlets of the 21st century.

  • @texaspilcher ?

FWIW, in 1974 KLOL was the only station I listened to. This song was in heavy rotation.

  • @stassmaster1 The Backstreet Boys sold millions of records, big deal! You're confusing commerical success and musical greatness. The Spice Girls were one of the biggest bands in the world once. Kenny Chesney's version of this is an average cover. Loggins version is a classic and better than anything Chesney has ever done!

  • ah hem- its 2010..... lets not get frozen in the past!

  • @JinglerWannabe other way around

  • @JinglerWannabe

I agree but Dave will never be the Great Kenny Chesney either.

  • @JinglerWannabe ..but thank God he's still singing these great classics and letting people hear Dave's music......... just saying

  • This song almost made me cry

Im attending college in Boston and It just made me so homesick

    ;-;

  • I'm only 11 and I love this

  • This song has ALWAYS had a special significance for me. I was in high school when I first heard it, and my boyfriend at the time would play it for me. We would make out and listen to Loggins songs all evening. Ahhhh, those were the days.

  • i have heard this song about thee times on the radio in the last 25 years i love this song THANK YOU !!!!!!!!

  • I love this song! THANKS- and cool video idea, i am older so i like it!

  • I can't understand why it's

not available on itunes.....oh. well, .99c

    less for Dave Loggins, LOL

  • GO BUY IT.

    Cheap ass.

  • Touching.

  • Damn, someone in your family really loves comming to the PLEASE COME TO BOSTON SONG. You've been on these comments now for a month or more. How's the "roomates" all the brothers and sisters? Mama got a ticket back to the homeland yet? How's mama's husband?

  • Good stuff!

  • I was SO born two decades late.

  • Great song and 45. Brings back some good memories. Thanks!!

  • I did some fun things when this song was first out and a hit ! memories I will never forget ! oh the years of youth ! :)

  • glen cambell did a good cover of this to

  • Just makes me all warm and wet.

  • Hi its me! Told ya I'de run into you soon....See we do have the same taste...in music that is.

  • This is sooo a musicians song. I move around a lot and the love of my life is back in my home town and i miss her. (tear tear) lol this song reminds me of her.

  • I feel bad for you man...I'm successful, etc, but I miss being in love for some reason ( even though married). I think you should go talk to her. Really, even though I do not know you, I wish you the best of luck....go talk to her..........

  • She's 8 hours away but I do wanna just pack up and go home. Thanks man im like bawling my eyes out now after reading that lol.

  • I can finally relate to this song now; the gentleman I love very much lives in Europe :( I'm saving up my money so I can go meet him and give him a warm, enormous hug! Good luck to you, as well.

  • They just don't write songs as good as this anymore...

  • you know I was thinking of this song one day and didn't know the name of it until I saw a time life program commercial with it featured and said bingo thats it. glad then to be able to hear this neat song.

  • Didn't David Allan Coe write this?

  • dave loggins wrote it

  • Yeah I see that now. I don't know why but I always thought Coe wrote it. I like his version best anyway.

  • No, this is the origional artist. Coe, did a cover. Not a very good cover in my opinion. I found out today that Dave Loggins did a song for the Augusta Masters (Golf). I hate golf, but the little I heard of the song today, it was good. I'm in Georgia, so I hear about the Augusta masters. Man I love this song....this one here about come to boston.

  • Pardon my ignorance, but who was "The man from Tennessee?" Andrew Johnson?

  • Yes, Andrew Jackson, was the man from Tennessee (not andrew johnson). The man from Tennessee is the man telling the story in the song lyrics. He girl was saying she is his fan and he's from Tennessee and Boston is not right for him, he ought to come home to her in Denver or they can move to LA or it's a story over time and she moved off to LA or it's a totally different girlfriend who's off in LA. That's my take on it anyway.

  • This song is just fricken awesome. I was all of 3 years old. I guess I like it from back then. Must have been on the radio or something. 'with some friends, they have lots of room" His vocals are just great.

  • ....not to mention, one of the best bridges...and usually hate bridges

  • i am 22 and always a hip hop fan first but this song always gives me chills....the second verse is so beautiful and ridiculously well writen

  • Ahhh, this brings me back to old times......longing.....ahhh, the 70s, miss them dearlly

  • come down to boston,ky =D

  • I'm the number one fan of the man from Tennessee

  • Beautiful, sad, longing, and tragic.

  • This version sucks big time Kenny Chesney's is the best version

  • You can't really say an original version sucks. If it sucked why would anyone else re record it? How would they ever hear it. This was the biggest version (the biggest hit) It was rock and roll not country so this must have been around 82

  • i guess ur right andocrates.lol

  • wow that was fast response have you been camped by your computer since a week ago? XD

  • no.lol it tells me in my email when someone reply's to a comment on youtube.lol i shouldnt have said this version sucks cause it's actually okay. I just prefer Kenny's version. Im a big kenny fan so it may had sounded selfish of me to say that.lol

  • Cruz you have got to be kidding this is best version by far!!!! Dave wrote this song and he sings it beautifully

  • it is a good version but im not gonna like bout my opinion.lol i just think kenny sings it good to and i prefer kenny's.lol but no problems

  • I've only heard Dave Loggins, Reba McEntire and Kenny Chesney sing this song. The original is the best. But I do love Reba's cover as well. It's hard to compare the two of them since the story ends up being told from a different perspective. No matter which version you like, it's an amazing song which is why other singers fall in love with it and want to record it.

  • i think the original is David Allen Cole. I think he wrote the song

  • Actually Loggins wrote it. Like it says on the album at the beginning of the video. And on the album "Apprentice" where it was a hit for him in 1974. Coe was doing lots of versions of songs he didn't write. Check his album "Once upon a Rhyme" from 1975. And Coe is from Ohio. Loggins is from Tenn. (#1 fan of the man from Tennessee...) And just listen to anything else by Loggins. It's obviously his.

  • The confusion may have something to do with Dave Loggins' full name.

  • Not sure why that would be, unless his name was somehow Dave "Allen Coe" Loggins.

I think it's similar to the confusion surrounding "All Along the Watchtower", a song which Bob Dylan wrote, that many attribute to Jimi Hendrix.

People cover songs and the original artist gets lost over time.
