My old group's name here is "Te Akaora" but ill come out of retirement to tangi on dat azz jus lmk, but if get waves sry ill be in da watah!
Checkout these tube vids 'backyard kids from taruia clan drumming cook islands jam 6' and 'Araura college' some pretty good Cook Island drumming, and they're just kids...
The Tahitian Drumming style is similar to how we drum In the Northern Cook Islands group, all done one handed with the exception of the TINI. The Tamou and Takute patterns interweave with the main beat....So we have both 1 and 2 handed techniques...Besides the To'ere was introduced from the Cooks if you know your history....
Midnight!!!!!! You killing me.... It's for love and passion for the culture that this group and any group has... What do you know about beats!!!!!!!! You sed u jus one dancer!!!!!
Oh...and about the same beats over and over and over and over again!! It is mandatory in drumming competition to show that you know your basic beats! Beacause basic beats are the roots and foundation of tahitian drumming, without it you just have Cook Island drumming! Haha...Trick u!!! But real talk without foundation we all be lost! Hehu!!!
Haha im gettin a kick reading these comment on my video post! But just to be straight up and not to get under anyones skin, Heretama Nui work very hard and is very proud and passionate in their culture, thats why their still consider one of the best drummers on the island! Instead of being negitive towards all Tahitian drummers, u should get ur Cook Island people put a group together and show what Cook Island drumming is all about! Represent ur culture and teach us, cuz each culture is unique!
Brah...1 stick waay bettah than 2!......we make dat sound with 1 hand, and you gotta use 2!! hahahahahahaha...U Killing me brah midnite4life777!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do Tahitian groups play the same beats over and over and over again? dat baffles me! I dont drum but i use2dance for a cook island group, and i realized after a few years of dancing kuki, when i hear tahitian teams they play da same beats jus in different orders and counts! And why do u have more then one Paumango player? LOL dats crazy!

I have a Cook Island CD from like way back in the day and a CD I got just recently from Rarotonga, and YOU guys play the same drum beats over and over in different orders and counts. PPPPPFFffffffff none of you Cook Islanders would come close to these Tahitians, with ONE stick. You guys wouldn't be able to get the same sound with only THREE toeres and ONE stick!!!!!!!! ur too funny...ppffff
