@candlepeace Thank you Candlepeace. He's still kicking, now at 84. Even though dementia is setting in, he still is enjoying life and has kept his sense of humor. I noticed you have some Scottish Bagpipe posts - My father loves that music, when he listens to it he says it makes him feel ready for battle!
@borgasm22 please do me a favor and tell him there is a man who is far away on the other part of the world, is sending you his warmest greetings and telling you thank you in the name of humanity, and i will never forget him, and the children of my children will never forget him, if i know where he is, i would love to send him, a happy wishing post car from the post office tomorrow, i really mean it
Thank you 93. He is still kicking and a few weeks from seeing 83. My mother passed away on Tuesday. She was French. My father met her in Nice after the war. She died on Bastille Day.
Does anyone know how to get a Purple Heart medal and ribbon for a display at a veterans' hospital? I am working on creating a museum display of uniforms, insignia, and medals from WW 1 to the present. So far I've been able to purchase most everything I need on eBay, except for a Purple Heart.
I can't imagine anyone would want to part with one. But you might check your local recruiter offices for the various armed forces. They're always looking for opportunities.
well the purple heart is the most prestigious award so you might not find it anywhere and if you do no one wiill even let you borrow it, try making a replica out of clay or something.
The purple heart is not the most prestigious award. To be honest, It is actually the most common award EVER to be presented to soldiers. The most prestigious award is the Medal Of Honor
@thersitica2 , Really I thought the most common was the National Defense ribbon that everyone gets for serving , or the good conduct medal for serving 3 yrs and not getting into trouble .
The Purple Heart is awarded to those who have been wounded in action. My Father was was shot in the arm, blown up by a mortar, he had shrapnel removed from his chest as recent as 10 years ago (from wwII!)
I would never have guessed he was 80. He doesn't look a day over 70. I have great regards for your father and thank him heartily for his service to the nation.
you get wounded for a piece of metal that is worth less than copper? at least make the purple heart silver if not it might was well be a rock with a purple ribbon attached to it no offense by the way
It's more about the honor of saying that you have been awarded the Purple Heart while serving your country. All of the ribbons are relatively made of cheap material....even the medal of honor.
@jeffbrister2004 , It isn't what the medals are made of it is what they stand for that makes us proud they are earned they just dn't give them things away you know ......US Army Vet .
@Videowatcher76 Actually Purple Hearts were given away in WW2, at least in Europe. Why I'm not sure, too many of them perhaps, guess they were treated lightly and as easy to get as a campaign medal. There is a story of a Canadian soldier who had a tooth ache and happened to track down an American army dentist. The dentist told him that he had many Purple Hearts to give out and it did not matter to him that he was a Canadian soldier. The Canadian accepted it.
@1Dougy85 Purple heart cant just be given away as easy as you tell the story. First you have to have your chain of command to validate the 'injury in combat' through personnel('witness) with the said 'recipient' then the witness has to make a written oath of the event, it has to be a combat injury, then they submit it, if its granted then they put it in your DD214 which shows all your Medal, time in service etc. i should know this bcz i earned one that took a year later cz i got out of the Army.
Thank you very much for your comments. That was one of the most proudest moments of my life. His experience leading up to, during and shortly after the invasion is a great story. When I get a chance, I'll post some better footage and tell some of the story, I'll be sure to send you a notice when it happens.
i wish i can kiss your father's hand and tell him thank you

If you haven't found a purple heart, try the local VFW or American Legion.
There maybe someone would permanently loan one for display in a museum.
Museum's have many items permanently loaned. The lender remains owner, the museum possessor.
Good luck in you effort.
