@houariguns Yeah man! Thats what I did in this video. You need to go into the settings and assign the 'wah/vol' pedal to the 'bender' effect and then your good to go!
Doesn't sound like a 'demo' when its recorded with a cam mic, my tiny practice amp sounds the same on a video cam. Plug direct-in so we can hear your setup!
ive always had this saame question,, this is a very good sound, but wouldit be the samelive?
ive heard that for a "ROOM GUITAR PLAYER" this is awsome, but once you play live the sound is to thin, and cannot be compared to a real analog pedal or very good amp.
Sounds great on video, but does it have the feel of a real amp with that hook up? which by the way, seems to be the best way of getting the pure pod sound. I sometimes hook them up to reference monitors and I hear great sound, but cant feel the ball tingling sensation of a real amp. Just wondering how it sounds in person with your set up? Please don't take me wrong, not asking about your balls, just your sound.
@benthemiester Hey man, to be honest I havent played through a 'real' amp for some time. In my opinion modellers offer a compromise to get close to studio tones in any situation, so I can't really help you on any of the ball movment questions. However, I must stress that this isn't a feature that I often seek when playing the guitar, I'm more interested in getting a sound that works for me so I can play the ideas that I have in my head.
@lauraeeee I hear u, what I'm really speaking of is frequency response, there are certain freqs around 80 hertz that make your chest vibrate we have all heard it at concerts. The point I'm trying to make is, I like to feel my music as well as hear it. I use mine for recording and live so I am a fan of line 6, but theres still nothing like a real amp. Great sense of humor man. They say that a sustained exposure to an inaudible 10 hertz freq, can make u loose control of bowel movements. WHY? WHY?
@benthemiester Well I will try and make a video that tests out these ideas and theories! I can't promise that I will be loosing control of any bodily functions, as the videos would perhaps not be suitable for youtube, but I will try and see if I can get some 'air' into the recordings. If you check out my video where I'm using the rig outside of my house then there may be some clues in that video....It hit me prity hard at the time of recording....
Thanks for posting vid. Going through a flat power amp is probably the best way to get the the tone that the LINE 6 developers spent all that time perfecting.
im using a fender amp with a built in eq and effects and im having trouble with my pod. Is there something wrong with my amp or do I have to change the settings on my pod because the volume is realy low and there is nothing I can do to change it.
Line 6 released an update of the unit several years ago......if you update the latest firmware, via the line 6 monkey, it should install itself along with some more amp models and FX.
for next autumn, i'm thinking of buying a 30 watt laney lc30 combo with el84 power valves and a 12" celestion seventy 80 speaker. this combo has also fx loop, so i can only use the valve power stage and the speaker :)
this is one of the few videos which took my interest to pod products. i didn't like the official demos of these pods on the line 6's web site, their demos all sounded like crap, disgusting, harsh and digital. but man, your sound is really very live, vibrant and ANALOG especially when playing overdriven rhythms and leads. this might be due to your valve power amp and 4x12" speakers, but preamp is also very important and your preamp is a pod xt ;)
I totally agree with you. Its all part of a chain and each link relies on the other links in the chain. A massive part of my sound is the POD XT.....and I wouldn't change it for the world.
Right, there are something like 32 banks and each of these have 4 patches that live in each of banks. These are called A, B, C, D. So each of the buttons on the floor board are for each of the patches in the banks.
There you go!
I understand that this could be limiting, but I just use a clean and a dirty setting - like on this video. However, using the expression pedal you can assign a different effect, such as whammy or wah.
Hi Chris, I would be the first to admit that I am not a fan at all of this modeling technology stuff... But I must also admit that your use of a tube power amp/modeling preamp combination is very appealing and very convincing. Thank you for the video and for the great playing.
Hey man! I got to thank you for the kind words! Although I rarely loose interest in the guitar and guitar equipment, hearing such positive comments really inspires me to keep on developing my technique and exploring sounds!
Hi, I`ve got a question. I got the PODx3. I want to use it as a preamp. Can I get the Mesa Boogie Cabinet of 50 watts and then hook my PODx3 straight into the Mesa Boogie cabinet?
hey man love ur tone. so ive got a question. U r running from the back of the marshall cab(wat marshall is that by the way) into the 20/20 and into the pod. So the 20/20 must have 2 inputs???
Im doing a similar thing with the Pod. Im using a Epi les paul custom with an Xt live running it through a solid state power amp in to a 1960A. Sounds 10x Better than running through a flat P.A.
Im considering getting a valve power amp to add some tube warmth to the tone but the 20/20 wont be loud enough on a 300w cab.
The pod and cab combination sounds far better than any amp under (about) £1500 will ever sound
Thanks for the kind words. However, I think that the 20/20 would be MORE than enough to power a 300W cab, indeed thats what I use! I can play so loud that the glass in my shower shakes at the other side of my house.
Chris, the whammy tool is avaliable from the line 6 website, as far as I'm aware. They released an update around 2 years ago with some new models and this was on there with 6 new wahs and some other stuff I can't rember.
thanks man. im gonna get one of these instead of a new amp, because i decided a tube amp would be too loud and too heavy for my purposes. so just to clarify, did you buy the effects pack or was it a free downloadable update?
I use a valveking and I am thinking about getting a POD XT Lve but i dont want to use cab simulation sense I allready have a cab does the POD XT allow you to tunr off the cab simulation
Hi Chris. Did you get your 20/20 from Ebay? They're like £400 approx here in England arn't they but your saying you got yours for £150-200? Where did you get it from? Cheers and nice playing btw
Hey man. Yeah I got mine in a guitar shop in Exeter (in Devon). Its was called Bill Greenhams and its was really old school - full of woodwind instruments and stuff. I went into the back and there was a rack of guitar stuff for sale and I saw the power amp. I think they wanted 230 for it, but I walked away paying 180!
Hey man, thanks for looking at my video. I'm not really sure what speakers are in this cab! I know that the cab is totally stock and its rated at 200 w and there are 4 speakers so I'm guessing some sort of 75w speakers! I do think that the Marshall cabs are prity good as well they are real solid and look like they could cope with quite a beating.
Cool. This is THE way to use a POD XT Live. The guitarist in my band runs one through a stereo tube amp into a stereo 4 X 12 cab. And it simply sounds KILLER. I've never heard better tone.
Great video!I have a PODxt as well and I love it,but I've tried to use just the effects with a JSX head and I didn't like the sound. The single pedals sound better I think, have you had any luck? Thanks
The 20/20 is strictly a power amp. This has nothing to do with a JCM 900 - I assume your refering to the head.
What I do is use the power amp to drive the speker so that the POD can be used. Therefore I'm using the JCM900 emulation through the 20/20 power amp. I'm not running the pod through the clean channel of anything...i'm using clean channel emulation from the pod through a 20 20 power amp.
Also: Don't know if you can answer this but: What if you want to use a Line 6 for effects that sound good after the power amp stage? Can this be done or must all effects from the Line 6 be used in front of the power amp? Sorry for so many questions - if you can answer any that would be great!
Hmmmm, I'm not the authority on effects, but I have this to say.
The POD has a load of effects on it and they work really well! And I think are very very good - but then again I only use chorus on a clean tone, and perhaps a little wah/whammy now and again.
But to answer your question I think that all FX have to be used IN FROUNT of the power amp - I can't see any other way of getting it to work. If you have any more questions I'd be more than happy to help!
Sounds great. I was thinking about doing something similar, combining a 20/20 with a pre-amp of some kind [except I would also possible add a Palmer speaker simulator to create a lighter rig for gigging that would go direct to PA]. I have a Marshall TSL 100 amp. How would the 20/20 compare to a typical Marshall? Would it be better to use a tube pre-amp than a Line 6 to get good warm, natural tone? Or does the tube power amp do enough to warm it up?
Well I mean it depends on the pre-amp you use! I guess I could try and make a video of this rif running the TSL emulation and see if that would work. So you can't compare a 20/20 to any other marshall because its only the power amo stage. But I wouldn's say that you need to use a good tube pre amp, the 20/20 would be fine for adding tube warmth to digital processing....
Thanks. I think I misunderstood how the power amp works. It sounds like what you are saying here, and in other answers, is that the 20/20 does little more than amplify the sound that is created by the power amp and add some tube warmth. It does not color the sound or shape the sound. Rather the preamp does. I had thought that the 20/20 would create the typical Marshall sound you want from a Marshall amp, but perhaps this is not true? It all depends on the preamp?
I think thats a very good description of what the 20/20 does! I can't tell you if the 20/20 adds the 'Marshall' sound as I would need to A/B it to a similar type of rig. However I can tell you this....I have always loved 5150's however in England they are perhaps a little too expensive. If you run the 5150 emulation from the POD throught the 20/20 you get very close (to my ears) to the real thing! SO I guess the same might be for the Marshall settings too..I'll have an experiment later on! Chris
Thanks for looking edovinus. Trust me the 20/20 is far far more powerful than I ever thought, its quite scary! It will power a 4x1so hard that it makes the room shake. You wont regret it and you can pick them up scond hand real easy too!
Stephen, thanks for taking the time to look at my little video and for commenting. Here is my take on your question. Valves breath life into software (like line 6) tone. I use the pod for direct recording because its very easy - but the tone is compromised. When playing live I try and warm up the Pod by running it through some sort of valve power amp, or if that itsnt avaliable a PA.
As for the riffs - I just played the first things that popped into my head!
