  • I am a dude and I have a long natural curly hair... I need someone to cut my hair, someone who thinks the same way this woman does.

  • She couldn't be more right! She is a saint!

  • Lorraine, your t-shirt is priceless! Love it! Thanks for a great demo on cutting curly hair. Your book “Curly Girl” has changed my life, thanks!!! xoxo

  • And if

She wears her hair straight what will it look like! Uneven hair? Wow I have seen this and it looks wronggg when it's straight!

  • She is so right! I've often thought about cutting my curly hair when it's dry, cause then you see exactly how it lays normally! Why didn't we think of this sooner??

  • great! This is how im going to trim my hair from now, thank you!

  • omg i want her as my hairdresser! i love her my hairdresser can't cut curly hair she knows nothing about it!

  • Can someone explain to me what she was saying please? I couldn't understand that much... I'll appreciate if someone helps me out.

  • @girlzrock44 She's making a couple of key points:

    1) Curly Hair should be cut dry because a) we wear it dry, not wet, b) wet hair has a different shape than dry hair, and c) because curly hair shrinks so much when drying

    2) Curly-heads shouldn't use sodium-based products (MOST shampoos are sodium based) because they strip and dry the hair. Your hair then gets HUGE because it's expanding into the air trying to grab moisture. She recommends using "No-Poo" products that don't have sodium.

  • this lady is awesome

  • I found a place in Northeast Ohio that charges $34 for this haircut....can't wait to go have it done. :)

  • @Becca62382 Is it in Beachwood.. do you mind telling, because I was thinking about getting this done. You can mssg. me if you want.

  • @MysTaria87 No it is in Wadsworth. You could try calling some of the "nicer" salons in your area and ask them if they do the Deva Cut and compare prices. Otherwise, I say make a trip to Wadsworth. :)

  • @Becca62382 hmmm.. thank you. :-)

  • @Becca62382 Hey Becca where in NE Ohio? Have you been yet and the real question is did they do a good job? I live in SE Michigan so it's a drive but not too bad if they give a good cut that doesn't give me crazy frizzy curls.

  • how do i controll my damn frizz its annoying i wish i had curls not curls and then a bush of frizz over it :(

  • god i wish she had just cut my hair, I shoud be used to these awful haircuts where they take ike six inches off without you asking, sigh.

  • in a deva cut is the hair cut after it is styled with product?

  • this chick knows what shes talking about

  • I just cut my own hair.....dry....after seeing this video. I doubt if I will ever pay to have my hair cut again. Cutting it into a shape that flatters my head and face was so easy. My whole life I've warned hairdressers that my hair shrinks up alot once it dries but it's like I'm talking to a wall. Result: hair so short that I want to cry on my way home and for the next several weeks. No more.

  • I've actually found a hair stylist who does this with my hair 6 months ago and It made a big difference in my hair! I hated my hair before but since then I've grow to like it. I love the product too but I can't afford them yet so I stuck wit the cheaper products. Anyways, its such a relief that I can find someone who knows how to deal with curly hair.. i wish i found my stylist sooner.

  • Love love love this technique! Can't wait to use it on my curly clients... Already did mine and it was great

  • I want her to do my hair.

  • Thank you for the clarification, my hair is a bit more curly than hers, and i have always followed that technique on my own, literally having to cut my own hair because most hairdressers dont have a clue.

  • I am a hairdresser and have read "curly girl" and followed everything that she says about cutting curly hair and it has been wonderful. I am completely "known" for being able to cut curly hair, and it is soooooooo simple. At least 30% of my clientele now is curly and it's great.

  • Great video!! So many times times in the past i've gone to a regular salon to get my naturally curly hair cut and all they ever seem to want to do is straighten it. Urgh! Loads of hairdressers just don't have a clue how do cut and style curly hair, which is a real shame. If you've got curly hair, GO WITH IT!!!! It's natural and it's beautiful!

  • i like her shirt. find something else to blow lol

  • I LOVE MY CURLY HAIR!!! i was told all my young life by aunts and random runts to 'go comb your hair', DAMN THAT! a what? a flat iron? what's that?

  • @oceantasi75 Haha, that is too true ans so funny. Whenever I get out of the shower my mom is like "did you comb your hair?" The answer is always no! People always ask "when are you gonna straighten your hair?" and I reply "when hell freezes over!"

  • Daniella is a news anchor for Univision in Los Angeles and is from Peru.

  • The girl getting her hair cut, what's that accent?

  • where can i go for u to cut my extra curly hair?

  • I have had a love hate relationship with my curly hair for 50 years....it is so hard to find hairdressers who know what they are doing!

  • @pattycolleen Indeed! check with the more "popular" places and check how much experience they have with curly hair. If they try to cut it straight across... tell them no right there and then, That is absolutely the wrong way to cut hair like ours

  • YAY CURLY DIVAS!!! :)

  • @hellokitkat3000

use mousse or gel, but don't use a lot when putting it in. c:

  • Can she cut my hair?

  • I personally like curly hair but when my hair dries it gets all frizzy and poofy like a big mess, I see a lot of girls with really nice curls but their hair looks like it's wet, does anyone know howto keep curly hair in structure cause I really need some help :) ow ad btw I have really long and a lot off hair

  • @missmarocc1 I sent you a private message with some info on curly hair. I hope it helps.

  • @nicobeing omg thank you, I'll try them but I live in Belgium so I hope all the products are availble here and again thank you so much <3

  • @missmarocc1

Joico joiwhip mousse helps me! check out curly hair websites such as naturallycurly. good luck!

  • @missmarocc1 my hair is really curly && long as well. (but not african american) What i do, is use Pantene Curly to Straight Shampoo and conditioner. and right after i get out of the shower, i brush it all out so there are no knots or anything, and then a take a fine tooth comb (make sure the ends are a little pointy so that it gets it right). Put your hair up in a ponytail using the comb, dry the pony off with the towel, and in a few hours put it down (when it's dry) It looks beautiful. ask me

  • @angie4779 ow really I'll try it, but does your hair get frizzy when you go outside and I didn't understand it really well, do I just have to make a ponytail and let it dry, cause that doesn't sound really helpfull to me but my English isn't that good so sorry...

  • @missmarocc1 it's okay :). It won't get frizzy if you put some conditioner (mixed with water) and smooth it over the top of your hair. Yes, make a ponytail and let it dry (it is easier if you use a fine- tooth comb so it looks extra soft & smooth)

And after you make the pony tail and put conditioner on the top, twist your pony-tail using your finger so that it doesn't get poofy.

  • @angie4779 ok thx for the tip :)

  • I'm still recovering from my last haircut!! The stylist didn't know how to cut curly hair and chopped off inches, then BLOW-DRIED IT!!

  • OMG my hair is like that long but curlier way curlier and i love my hair

it like curly but in really small ringlets

  • finally i find a video with actual curly hair not wavy :D i want my hair to be long and soft and curly, at the moment its long but the curls dry up and shrink so much it makes my hair look like a poof ball, kinda like that ladys hair, i want my long hair to look long :/

  • I don't mean to complain but I don't think my last hair stylist knew how to cut curly hair, she straighten mine to cut it. Oh well, guess I'll keep on looking for one or I could learn to do it myself.

  • Omg, I wish I could find someone who knows how to cut curly hair... they cut off inch and when it drys its like they cut off four! Irritatingggg.

  • @LaurynSelahx3 I aggree no one in my town knows how to cut curly hair..sigh

  • The blonde hair one is my auntie. :) <3

  • The problem with curly hair is that not enough people know how to cut it. Ive seen sooooo many people get haircuts from people who only know how to cut straight hair and they totally screw it up. Any stylists who tells you cutting both types of hair is the same, curly heads stay away.

  • its not in the text book of how to cut hair BEACUSE its WRONG to cut it that way!! the ditribution and elevation of how we cut hair will give us BALANCE, picking bits of out and cutting it will achieve UNEVEN BALANCE

  • @anthonyd3903 what's wrong is me going to a normal stylist who doesn't know how to cut curly hair and have her chop of 5-6 inches when I ask for a small trim because she doesn't understand my shrinkage issues. dry cutting curly hair is a godsend!

  • @heidishoshana bit of advice for you, dont go to a normal stylist, pay more money and get a good haircut, but then again i bet your in america, british hairdressing is the best in the world come over here we will show how to cut hair the right way

  • @anthonyd3903 i do pay more money, and i go to a devacut trained stylist and my hair has never been more amazing.

  • does anyone know why my hair could be looking healthy, shiny and wavy/straight one day, but usually not? some of my hair is pretty curly, but all the hair underneath is usually really straight, healthy and shiny. what does this mean?

and though i dont think i have really thick hair, i have a lot of hair, just like the girls in the video. i want to have less volume but im afraid of getting layers. any tips are welcome....

  • Anybody else have hair like mine? It's wavy underneath, VERY curly and frizzy at the crown, nice spiral curls at the very front and sides. So if I get it cut in layers at the back it looks stupid because the crown is so much curlier than the layers underneath! Also, now I'm getting older and the grey is coming in and that's practically straight. I don't mind having curly hair but I wish it was all the same. Any suggestions for a good cut? I keep it quite long and I have a square face.

  • @EmilyBreast yeah I know how you feel my hair is so big and pooofy and I don't like it at all and I would like to know how to thin it out. I'm not a volume kind of person. It just bugs me.

  • i used to have those curls the girl had but now theyre getting much more straight

  • I'm a Stylist , I like this technique..it works well..thumbs up

  • I have curlier hair than this.

    I haaaate it soo much.

  • @EmilyBreast - don't hate it! Love it!! Curls are awesome!

  • @RacerWife7 It's too much to maintain.

    And mine is ridiculous haha.

  • well i dont live in the U.S, so i know not many hair stylist know this technique, i have like a mixture or wavy and boticelly curls, down to my waist, and i cut my hair every 6 months or so, but i always ask the stylist to cut just a little bit of my ends in a V shape but not in layers, because if i want to wear it straight at least it would look like a V and not like i let a child cut my hair like crazy. I dont like to cut my hair too short because then it looks way too triangular shaped.

  • i always called my hair curly, but now i'm thinking it's wavy. it's like vanessa hudgen's hair.

  • i was about to cut my long hair but after watching this i've changed my mind......

  • i have curly hair, and i cut it myself. and because my hair scrunches up, if i mess up it is almost unnoticable.

  • This method is very effective, i tried it myself. Trimming the curls dry is good for me since my hair shrinks. With this method my curls felt right where i wanted them.

  • hey i was wondering if anyone could help me? :)

i have curly hair too but i always seem to get mine cut when it is straight

when my hair is shorter its curly, so if i cut it when its dry, it would shrink further, after id have it cut

does anyone elses hair do this, and if so do you recommened this cut?

    thanks guys! :) x

  • @SydellexX I've heard that if when shorter your hair curls more, then you must have thin hair because when it's longer the weight of your hair makes your hair less curly. It's just the way your hair is, i guess.

  • is she brasileira?

  • Lol, 2:00 was very spontaneous!

  • i used to get made fun of cause of my curly hair in school but now IDGAF!! people are just jealous . if u embrace your hair, other people will too, and now i am admired for my hair because i wear it with confidence. :)

  • ughhh i hate my curly hair its so gross and it has way to much volume and then when i go straighten, it becomes burnt and you cant do anything about it and not only that but i have layers to it makes my hair really poofy not nly that but i get made fun of in school for it

  • @xforeverxlovexo :/ Maybe it just needs more moisture. Try to not shampoo your hair everyday maybe just once a week and just rinse with conditioner everyday. I know it seems tough at times but it's all about learning how to manage it. Good luck and trust me once you learn how to manage it, you will LOVE LOVE your hair.

  • that's what I've discovered myself, after years of struggling with curly hair and bad haircuts...

  • I love my curly hair Thank God!

  • I have curly hair and normaly im upset about it because the kids bully me at school about it but watching this makes me feel a little better

  • Curly hair is AWESOME. It's unique and not many people have curly hair. You should be proud. Those kids at school that bully you are pathetic :) Love your hair, it's apart of who you are.

  • @TaintedxHalo Actually A LOT more people have curly hair than straight hair, to my knowledge, just a very small percentage choose to wear it natural! What a shame..

  • @Xinoutorah Your def. right. Most girls who you see with straight hair always use flat irons or blow dryers to make it like appear pin straight.

  • @TaintedxHalo Aha I suppose my curly hair isn't too bad :)

  • @TaintedxHalo oh no! many people have curly hair! your wrong

  • @janelle579 True, but many people straighten/de-curl their hair and THUS not many people possess the sheer APPEARANCE of curly hair. Thanks.

  • @TaintedxHalo: MANY PEOPLE HAVE CURLY HAIR but Straighten it because today's Idea of Beauty is the Staight Slick Bone Straight Hair. I love my Curly Hair.

  • @mybrownb If you've read the past comments, you'll see that I've a) corrected and explained myself and b) many people have corrected me as well. It's about the "appearance" and "showing of" the curly hair. Most people straighten or hide it thus, in an indirect sense, do not have curly hair TO SHOW. Please read prior comments. Thanks.

  • @mybrownb i "straighten" my curly hair because it's way too short for it to look good, if i air dry it just looks bad also because i have a higher forehead. Im gonna wait for it to grow long and then i'll wear it naturally.

  • This is such a good video. Screw going to a barber, I'm going to trim it myself.

  • how can i get ALOT of volume in my hair without harming it?

is there a salon in orange county, California??

  • i wish i could find someone to cut curly hair and im a teen, my dad wont pay more than 35 bucks :(

  • i understand exactly what you mean... i had to deal with $15 trims growing up, and most of the time they were horrible.

  • wow my hair is just like those girls , with lots of volume

  • My too, but very long. Yet, but maybe cut :( is too long

  • Yay! I finally get to see a Deva cut in action!
