You can not compare this to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There was absolutely no justifiable reason for the Holocaust. I see this as a person of mostly German decent, and it makes me ashamed of my heritage to a degree. @Dodec84 You don't understand my friend. One world under one God no matter what you choose to call him...the answer is love, not hate. That's my point.
@KarmaCollin Japan were weeks away from surrender and the Americans knew this. So yes, you can compare this to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It is just as brutal and horrendous and there can be no justification for dropping atomic bombs on innocent men, women and children.
@mickycub Are you crazy? Japan was under military control and vowed never to surrender. They were given the option many times. I see you are from the UK. After Germany attacked you, you were very weak. Were you ready to surrender?
@mickycub Out of interest, where is your evidence that Japan was "weeks from surrender" and that "Americans knew this"? I am not suggesting you are wrong. I am interested in this (factually). Thanks.
@mickycub An ultimatum signed by Harry S. Truman and Winston Churchill, and concurred by the president of the Republic of China, known as the Potsdam Declaration was issued to Japan demanding their unconditional surrender. The Japanese ignored it. The atomic bombs were the result. Without question a horrible outcome, but arguably a necessary one to stop an invasion that would have devastated both sides before it had even begun. Either way your argument is flawed.

Horrible, indeed. But what about Hiroshima and Nagazaki? Would the Americans had the same react of "Jesus!?" "What the hell?" at the pile of the dead innocent Japanese families too? War is horrible... on every side my friends. I just want peace.
@JasamTnTLante How the hell bombings of Japan were different thing? What the fuck is wrong with you yankees. You just think your country can do anything what you want. Warcrime is warcrime.
@TheKrustaceox Yeah, well all Americans want peace. Our military fights war to gain peace an fights for us to say we want peace. We never asked for war we got invited to it and plus we also got presents
@TheKrustaceox Indeed. To take an objective line, I suppose you have to say the US was not the aggressor, and if it had not brought the war to an end (the Japanese having refused to surrender when offered terms) then many more would have died. Sadly, the innocents were the cost that was paid to end the war and save many more if the war had continued.

Sadly, the innocents were the cost that was paid to end the war and save many more if the war had continued.
@TheKrustaceox The motivation is also fundamentally relevant - the Holocaust was a deliberate attempt to murder by industrial killing as many Jews etc as possible. The US did NOT want to murder as many Japanese as possible and was not motivated by racial hatred or ideloogy. Apart from the numbers involved, the two events are entirely different in context, cause and motivation. To ignore this ignores the very key point.
@TheKrustaceox There is a huge difference. These people were not at war with Germany. Most of them were citizens. The atomic bombs were dropped on Japan to end a brutal war after Japan attacked the U.S. Many more could have died if the U.S. would have invaded Japan instead of using A-bombs.
The holocaust was deliberate genocide. A campaign to eliminate all people because of their ethnicity. There is no moral equivalence between the atomic bombings of japan and the holocaust.
@MJGelfor If the US invaded the Japan, the ones killed would be SOLDIERS, mainly. You tell me about moral in dropping an atomic bomb on a innocent city. And the American's hate for the Japanese was there if you dont know. Im sure they dropped the bomb with hate, saying "Take this, Japs" "Ok now lets help them to look good on TV"
The moral in this is the same as every horrid thing of the war. And watching documentaries of multilated and burned innocent children,my friend, you tell me about moral.
War is evil, the only thing more evil sometimes, it to not fight it. I doubt the camp inmate would really agree with "sanctions" against germany being the best option, or "give peace a chance". It was not hippies and peace freaks that liberated them... It was WARRIORS, of the UNITED STATES ARMY.
The audacious actions committed by Nazi fanatics are by all means horrible. Concentration camps use to geneocide human beings. Is by all means sick and twisted. This scene is reminder of the actions committed by sick individuals and their followers. I go and say this the World has yet learn to act as one and punish evil for butchering innocent people regardless of skin, color, or race. They have yet to learn.
@JewsMockGodWithLies where did you learn that?!? A NAZI history book!! That crap happened! Have you ever heard of Elie Wiesel? Read his books especially NIGHT!! You'll learn the truth and not that crap you've heard!
While the horror of these scenes is never lost on me I am interested as to how they did it. How did they get the actors to look so thin and emaciated. Same with Schindler's List. The scenes when the prisoners had to run naked past the SS doctors for selection must have been monstrous to film, I know it was for the crew but what about the actors???
come on, people. You should know better that these guys acting like neo-nazis here are just trolling to get attention. Most likely they are 14 year old children, who don't get much attention from their parents. They sit in a dark room 24/7 behind their computers trolling.
@JewsMockGodWithLies there wasnt a systematic extermination at those camps but they did starve the people. and there were murders at the extermination camps. not to mention the killing squads breaking into peoples homes and killing them without even thinking about it. fuck you.
My grandmother was an army nurse and while overseas she treated people who came from the Aushwitiz camp. She never tole me much but just said she would never forget the look in their eyes, almost dead but not dead. Wondering through the world looking for a soul that was lost. Lost amiss hate and blind rage with no direction or reason in a darkness close to Hell itself. A small light lost in overwhelming darkness.
When he talked about the women's camp, I just lost it. I thought about being there, and knowing that my wife was down the road experiencing the same hell as that. I can't even begin to, nor do I want to, imagine the torture of knowing that the people I love were being put through this.
My great uncle (God rest his soul) was apart of a unit in Germany that found one of the camps. All he ever told anybody (at least in the family) was that he had seen one, and it was Hell. That was all he ever said, and he refused to say anything else.

The whole point of this episode is to illustrate the humanity of every human on earth. Your enemies, your friends. The point is to never do this to them. Enemies and friends change. Death cannot be changed. To kill so many people for nothing. To take from them the most valuable thing they own, all because you or others think they are wrong. Incredible. That people are arguing about this astounds me on every level.
It fucking kills me that anyone could even comment on this with that sort of thinking. Everyone, just take a minute to stop your arguing, and just reflect on what actually happened. They were people. Human Beings. No-one deserves this. It saddens me a great deal that you would find neo-nazi thoughts on this video.
4:06 this guy who carries dead man, speaks in Serbian...he says "People, he's still alive, still alive, you can still save him! Help me please..." :-((
All these fascist nazi fucks hating on here are just mad because their putrid, pathetic ideology will never rise again. Nazism is DEAD. And whatever so called "neo-nazi" groups are around are merely shit stains supporting a DEAD and immoral cause. Fuck National Socialism.
@JewsMockGodWithLies shut up Nazi fuck. So I'm guessing all those photos of starved "sub humans"(as Hitler called them) were photoshopped with computers which is strange since Photoshop didn't exist in the 1940's let alone computers. And your "facts" are bull shit lies. I'm guessing the holocaust survivors and soldiers who liberated the camps who gave interviews are paid actors. Go to hell Nazi fuck
The first time I saw this scene (not long ago..), really broke my heart .... It brought some tears to my eyes. I still can't believe how they could've done such atrocities. F*cking Krautz (That's for those mofo's Nazis, not for normal Germans...)-
@PushEastward you're saying the holocaust was made up? The only allied nation that committed mass murders was the Soviet Union. And we were forced into an alliance with that barbaric country. Stalin killed more innocent people than Hitler did. Hitler killed 11 million people. Stalin killed 15 million people. President Truman(when he was still a senator) said if Germany is winning let us help Russia. If Russia is winning, let us help Germany. So the rest of the allied countries never committed m
My grandfathers on my mother's and father's side fought during WW2 for the Soviet Union, one served as part of a tank crew and got mutilated by an anti-tank mine, and the other was part of an infantry group, who died of cancer just a few years ago. This scene honestly put me to tears, very nice soundtrack and cinematography.
If you guys don't get that HEALSWASTIKA guy his ID means bringing nazis back, he's just some neo-nazi waste of life. Don't lower yourself by responding to his comment.
@HEALSWASTIKA Dude, take a vacation, come to my place in the USA, you're more than welcome. Spend a few days with me, a German American, and I'll show you how to treat people. I'll introduce you to my best friend's mom who lost her entire family to Hitler yet she'll bless you with the hospitality any Jew bestows upon a visitor. BUT, you talk shit to her and you'll meet the wrath of an 89 year old that lived thru shit you can't imagine and you'll leave having been set straight.
@HEALSWASTIKA Hey, Nazi pigfucker. The Jews already burned in hell. You put them there. I'm part Gypsy, and a Christian. I have friends that are Jewish, gay, disabled, Catholic, communist, you fucking name it. Try to fight with all of us, and lets see if you enjoy the fires.
@HEALSWASTIKA You ARE A PIG and YOU disgusting human being will BURN in hell. try going out there in real life and say what you just posted. Try i wanna see you TRY you fkn coward.........you will be dead in a second...... asshole.
I nearly threw up watching this, and it's something I've known about all my life. I can't imagine what it would have been like to stumble on this, with no warning, first-hand.
This was an amazing tv series, still the best I have watched in all my years, and this episode is the one I return to most of all. It breaks my heart and makes me angry at the same time. The acting is brilliant and the production and sets are first class.
@PeterMayer I'm also German American I speak German partially and my mom makes really good German food. My family moved here in 1890 but we left some family behind some of that family ended up in camp a few ended up in the wechermat.
@Assasinoggrapes some people would rather die than lose their humanity and resort to the evil of the Nazis I had German cousins who were political prisoners at dachou for trying to smuggle Jews out of occupied territory. You always have a choice even if that choice is hard.
Sorry, but my grandfather had a choice of becoming a nazi or staying a citizen, he was so horrified, he came to America, I'm glad that he made that choice
I went on a trip to Germany about 6 years ago and on the tour was Dachau. It was one of the concentration camps in Germany. It was so haunting. No one spoke to each other, no one did anything, it was like moving in slow motion. Walking in you saw the infamous "Work hard you will be set free" and the minute you stepped over that threshold, you wanted out. I can't even imagine....
Absolutely crucial, effective, emotional and spotless piece of cinema. I have my criticisms of Hanks and Spielberg with "BoB", typical "USA wins the war for everyone stuff", but this, this is film at its finest.
I show this scene every year to my 7th graders as a preparation for Memorial Day. I want them to understand what it stands for. It is so very moving for them and it still affects me every time I show it.
Eisenhower, DeGaulle and Churchill each wrote volumes about WWII and never bothered to mention any genocide of the european jews because they knew that the "Holocaust" had been invented by Zionists. The top political leaders never wish to sacrifice their integrity so instead the ultra-wealthy Zionists always use stooge media types, stooge historians and stooge Hollywood types to disseminate the "Holocaust" deceit. The stooges of the world will do anything for money.
I wish everyone would always think of the holocaust when they start to hate people. This disgusting genocide started off because of a few racist words that turned into cartoons that turned into articles of hate that eventually allowed for such a horrible thing to happen. There will never be a reason to hate someone for their colour, creed or nationality. So let us learn from other peoples mistakes so that this atrocity will never happen again to anyone.
almost 70 years later and this still breaks my heart every time I see it, there are literally no words to describe it. My grandfather was a prisoner in Dachau for three years and lost every single last one of his family members there or in other camps so scenes like this have a very personal meaning to me. We must never forget the terrible things we humans are capable of doing to one another and must take every action possible to ensure that it never happens again.
The worst thing is, the Russians discovered and liberated camps that were much more bigger and horrible than what the British and Americans found. The human mind can't possibly comprehend what was done here. I am sure the Germans were no longer proud of being called the master race, the Great Aryan race their fuher made them believe. The whole world hates them, and the world helds every single German responsible for this.
@oortiz915 i agree with the first part of ur comment but yes us germans do feel bad but ur exagerating on the whole the whole world hates us thing. they dont hold every german accountable just the nazis just because the holocaust was started in germany doesnt mean all germans are bad and pronazis besides there were some germans who didnt want to go with the nazi party plus hitler was a mastermind who used his amazing brain for killing jews so you could baisically say germany was brainwashed
My entire grandmother's family was executed before her eyes in ukraine. lucky for her, moments before her "turn' some locals managed to buy her from the nai guards, and saving her life.
Horrible beyond words...It shames me to say it, but there have been times when I've watched real footage relating to the atrocities of the Shoah, and I haven't been able to look, I've turned my face away...The least we can do is to confront such evil in the face, and know that it can always happen.
The only part of Band of brothers that made me cry like mad was at the end of episode 10, when the real band of brothers are talking and Richard Winters says "Grandpa, where u alive in the war?" Grandpa says "No,But i served with a company of heroes :(
I had been watching this series and when this scene came, I was not prepared for it. Of all depictions of the horrors of the holocaust put into film and documentaries, this moment of discovery was more intense emotionally than anything I have ever seen. I was moved beyond words.

THthefirst 6 days ago
@TheKrustaceox There is a huge difference. These people were not at war with Germany. Most of them were citizens. The atomic bombs were dropped on Japan to end a brutal war after Japan attacked the U.S. Many more could have died if the U.S. would have invaded Japan instead of using A-bombs.
The holocaust was deliberate genocide. A campaign to eliminate all people because of their ethnicity. There is no moral equivalence between the atomic bombings of japan and the holocaust.
MJGelfor 1 day ago

The same army hollywood now spits on.

While the horror of these scenes is never lost on me I am interested as to how they did it. How did they get the actors to look so thin and emaciated. Same with Schindler's List. The scenes when the prisoners had to run naked past the SS doctors for selection must have been monstrous to film, I know it was for the crew but what about the actors???
hanscombe72 4 months ago
come on, people. You should know better that these guys acting like neo-nazis here are just trolling to get attention. Most likely they are 14 year old children, who don't get much attention from their parents. They sit in a dark room 24/7 behind their computers trolling.
We shouldn't pay any attention to them.

This fucking series was outstanding.
There are people today that claim this conflict is ancient history belonging in the books with the Crusades.
The echoes of this conflict will not die away for AT LEAST another hundred years.
I thought this Series did a pretty good treatment of it. All things considered.
The things portrayed here? All of them are documented. That's where they got the ideas from. Sometimes the truth is more horrible than fiction.
What you see here? It was much, much worse.

Hwk581 4 months ago
When he talked about the women's camp, I just lost it. I thought about being there, and knowing that my wife was down the road experiencing the same hell as that. I can't even begin to, nor do I want to, imagine the torture of knowing that the people I love were being put through this.

My great uncle (God rest his soul) was apart of a unit in Germany that found one of the camps. All he ever told anybody (at least in the family) was that he had seen one, and it was Hell. That was all he ever said, and he refused to say anything else.

waivedwench 5 months ago
The whole point of this episode is to illustrate the humanity of every human on earth. Your enemies, your friends. The point is to never do this to them. Enemies and friends change. Death cannot be changed. To kill so many people for nothing. To take from them the most valuable thing they own, all because you or others think they are wrong. Incredible. That people are arguing about this astounds me on every level.

I went on a trip to Germany about 6 years ago and on the tour was Dachau. It was one of the concentration camps in Germany. It was so haunting.
