Karen looks fragile and seems to be suffering on advance stage of Anorexia. She usually performed live but in this video it’s obviously Lip sync, the voice is magnificent and will last for generations... Although there are many female singers sounded like Karen, the legacy of her songs and the loved for her what motivates them to mimic their favorite artist... RIP Karen Carpenter
I love Karen, but it's so sad to see her like this. She was only 32 but the anorexia caused her to look much older. Regardless, her beautiful voice remained the same throughout her life. Karen's passing was a huge loss. She was one of a kind and is greatly missed. She will never be replaced or forgotten.
Do I laugh with the joy or cry at the loss ? Whatever, Karen, you have me - in my gut and throat and heart - I gave that old heart to you years and years ago...when I fell in love with you. Always, KC, and ever...........shine on and sing on, and I'll keep on missing you and loving you and wishing you were here with us. God, I hope Richard C. comes to youtube sometimes and sees how we all love her still.
Here's a place in time that society forgot. When music was cool, groovy & innocent. Lyrics were clean and people were pure and unspoiled. Unlike today how media serves our kids a bunch of FILTH where lyrics of gang-sta rap & hip-hop are full of profanity, recording artists are horny sexual beings portrayed in videos & pop stars are admired for getting in trouble with the law - WHAT kind of CRAP is that ?? Just citing how societal erosion is deteriorating the very fabric that holds us together.
I do not know the exact words to describe Karen and her brother but extraordinary, breathless..I have just about everything they ever made, and her alone. Heaven gained an angel, and we have her and their music to live on with..thank you for posting...
This is Karen's moment =) I <3 this. What ever happened to Neil Diamond, the Lennon Sisters, the Osmond brothers and the Carpenters? We need these songs because Justin Whatshisname and Rebecca B-word don't know ANYTHING about MUSIC!! My favorite period in life is when I knew nothing about them!
All I can is thank you for YouTube because it makes me feel like she is still with us and spreading her beautiful sound to us all. There will never be another Karen Carpenter because she was truly one of a kind!!! Her music will live on forever!
It's so sad. She seems to have been surrounded by yes men, including her brother, similar to Michael Jackson. What a sad tragedy and waste. She should still be alive today. She needed love, not yes men. Love sometimes tells you no because that is what you need. Love gives you what you need, not want you want.
I'll readily give Karen her points but I would also consider Judith Durham of The Seekers credit for both the pipes and the durability that Karen never got the chance to demonstrate.
You also have to give big credit to Richard's arrangements and production. While not the "front" of the Carpenters, he sure was the brains. He introduced recording techniques that were ground breaking and a huge part of their sound.
Having said all that, Karen's voice will always haunt me.
"my first love will be my last" .. such pure, uncontaminated emotions depicted beautifully - nowadays, let alone human intention being genuine, human emotion has completely lost trace of fidelity! globalisation and technology is polluting the human soul big time and no one's even aware of it!! Sad to say that we are all victims in this current life.
It was her voice that PUT her on the map, so to speak. She was a good drummer but it is AND always will be singing that she will be remembered for, in the world of music!!!
oh i forgot engelbert humberdick, gwen stefani, also have raved about her voice, i'm trying to remember any other singers in the past 20,30,40 years who have said that karen was the best female vocalist they ever heard.
paul mccartney, john lennon, justin hayward of the moody blues, shania twain, madonna, the list goes on and on of fellow singers/superstars who universally have gone on record saying karen carpenter had the most beautiful voice, was the best singer, etcetera.
Richard Carpenter would have done a great job performing a song or two at the Royal wedding, however if our own president isen't even invited, well you see what I'm saying. I could see The Carpenters doing We've only just begun, so fitting for a Royal beginning.
Thanks for supporting & subscribing to my channel, it is a labor of Love for Karen. Sit back & enjoy some of the best talent of all time. The Carpenters were individuals, they followed no one, or any trends.
Almost as good as Nat Cole's. It's sad they were from different generations. What a duet this would make. She is certainly on Nat's level. Instead, we get Natalie.
Little Girl Blue left out ALOT of Karen Carpenters Life, I'm really disappointed that this pig creep bastard Randy Schmidt told me "IF" he donates any of his proceeds to eating disorders, it will be done in private. Ive been around along time & everytime I heard this, IT NEVER HAPPENED. Karen's disease is something you want to bring to the forefront. Who wouldn't want to do this public? Randy has no problem selling the books in public, why not do the right thing if you really like Karen.
Karen Carpenter is still alive and well for she is in heaven already and all she did is left her own body here on earth. But from her songs her voice can still fall down on earth to us who are still here on earth and God with all his blessings is also present on her songs, so to me, she is still alive and well and still with us in heart, spirit, & soul for the soul never dies for it lives on forever as Karen Carpenter's songs will keep on inspiring others to show and share love with each other.

Dad had moved us from Aggieland (Bryan/College Station) the summer before my senior year in high school '82/'83 to remote, small-town Trinity, TX. The particular day was one of academic awards, but I'll never forget how the news affected those people. I finally got home, locked myself in my room and just listened.
@bisayakongdako she suffered from a then-not well-known illness called anorexia nervosa, a degenerative disease that makes the person feel overweight, and the only control one has is over their body-she literally starved herself by eating and then vomiting...but mercifully not destroying her gift, her voice. she was tormented personally, she attempted to marry, but sadly that didn't last. She died in '83 after attempts to cure herself, but the damage was done, and she died of a heart attack.

@MsChemicalEngineer Her family did interceded... she was in a clinic, but what i know is that... cuz the ilness wasnt common doctors thought that what she needed was food, she dies because she spend 18 years if im not wrong with ver few food in her organism and then in few months she gained so much weight because that was the treatment and she died of heart attack.... ironic.... i know tht the answer wasnt still not eating but... is ironic... (sorry for my english...)
my father likes Nat King Cole and for him his version is better than this one but then I can say that this one is better... I think the song is better portrayed by this wonderful woman, Karen, since the lyrics seems to be made for young women who wants true love :)
A voice from THE ANGELS, Perfect tone and control....everything is just Beautiful....her eyes tell you she is hurting inside....she was able to go on for some time....God Took her so she could lead the choirs of Heaven, singing to him.....She was so gifted....God Loved you so and stopped the pain....So much was lost when she passed away....Thank goodness for the awareness of this horrible illness.. .We haven't heard a voice like this since ....HTH in Whg, WV
Just thinking about how she died just makes me mad. Its Hollywoods fault, Giving her a complex about her wait back in the early 70's when they called fat. And shes just never been the same since.

An Angel placed on this earth, to share her magical voice with us, and to make some type of mark or difference in each of us, then returning to heaven....
this may sound trite, but i believe that karen had some type of mozartean genius, vocally. some of the tunes were first take, some while she was drumming. and like most genius, she could not live in this world--perhaps some type of perfection that crossed from her singing to her self-image was to blame, but so is a world that fetishizes thinness esp. for superstars like karen. tragic.
I was in Capetown S.Africa when I first heard this, but by Nat King Cole early 60's. This is the first time I have heard this redition by Karen Capenter, wonderful, Bless her.
Wait! Stop the song!....here Karen, eat a hamburger or something! (and I'm a vegetarian.)

Isn't this the best proof that words, image, music, and voice go together? I'm glued to every detail. I can't hold back the tears.

She was so beautiful. What a loss. What a legacy of gorgeous music she left us. Thank U Karen, and thank U ryanche33 for sharing this. Thank you.

this may sound trite, but i believe that karen had some type of mozartean genius, vocally. some of the tunes were first take, some while she was drumming. and like most genius, she could not live in this world--perhaps some type of perfection that crossed from her singing to her self-image was to blame, but so is a world that fetishizes thinness esp. for superstars like karen. tragic.

I never knew she had sung this song, and I never thought she could sing it so brilliantly.
