  • maybe they should include emergency inflatable rafts for possible water landings desinged for lost of people. Are aircraft equipped with raft for water landings? Can you imagine a water landing in the atlantic at night time and being in the water with just life jackets. THat would be well scary. THey need to improve on just life vests.

  • @1982FMJ People can sit on the wings and sit on the slides, which act as rafts. They sit level because the arcraft is floating on the water. And you wear your lifejacket if u hav to go in the water.

  • I think aircraft should have emergency parchutes and escape hatch. at lower altitudes when the plane is not presurised you could jump out of the airplane at approach speeds. many people think this isnt possible but it is. its is possible to jump out of an commercial aircraft if the escape hatch is situated at the right position so you do not get slammed into the fuselage. test pilots are able to do this. it is not impossible to ecape the plane with a parachute

  • @1982FMJ That would not work. First: too much weight from parachutes, reduces baggage allownce and=higher fares. Second: If the pilots could adjust to approach speeds they would just land the plane. Third: the only reason the escape hatch is there for test flights is to make the company feel better. Most test pilots said they know they'll never be able to escape the aircraft in an emergency. Even A380 test crew said that. its not impossible to escape by parachute, it's impossible 4everyone too.

  • @1982FMJ times change. if you had lost all hydraulic and engines then it was ur only chance. NOthing is impossible. they coudo design planes so everybody could escape by parachute pressure protected capsules. it's just nobody has dveloped it yet

  • @1982FMJ The amount of time, effort and years of prototypes and testing, would make it an almost impossible feat.

  • Imagine if there was a one lane slide and some fat guy couldn't fit and a flight attendant says use the double wide

  • the air coming iut of the sides of the slide is actully power so when you slide it does not become sticky

  • ok somebody please answer me these questions...

why are they blowing out , and what inflates them ?

how would they get them back in to the aircraft once the slide is used?

    Whos CASA?

    thanks for answers in advance

  • @cjg2k9 they let the air out and fold them up normally takes aboyt 1 week to fold them up its hard

  • @cjg2k9 civil avation safety authority

  • that pops out fun

  • it looks kinda fun to slide it

  • it must be fun going down that lolz...

  • i would love that job deploying slides for fun

  • As Marjan8888 said. The operator has to blow the slide at the end off it's service life to prove that they work. If they fail CASA gets involved and do an investigation.

  • not just for the hell of it CASA are also there to make sure the slides work and carry out investigations if there is a failure

  • last time i did a drill i hit my head

    on the door

  • That smoke is also powder which stops the rubber on the slide from sticking together

  • You're right. The "smoke" is actually talcum powder that's added to the inside of the slide chambers during manufacture (and at maintenance overhauls) to do exactly what you said. The reason it releases at the end is that when the slide attains max operating pressure, the pressure relief valves open, and some of the air inside the slide is released until the compressed cylinders are completely discharged.

  • its called blowing a shute, their are pressure bottles full of air its quite normal

  • Isn't it nitrogen and not air for obvious safety reasons?

  • why did smoke come out...that can not be good!

  • lol nice

  • why are they blowing ALL the slides?

  • slide is at end of its service life. so they want to just do it for the hell of it :D

  • To test if they work. You want to make sure that the slides work during an emergency.

  • THe slides were comming to the end of their service life. SO they are deployed to check that they would have worked. If they don't work the CASA have to be informed and an investigation is carried out.

  • So how long is the slide service life?
