CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE ANSWER THIS!!!!!!!!!!!! why are all the girls doing the same bar routine, ive watched multiple bar routines and they do the exact same thing. WHY!!!!!!!
@peaceluvcheer97 they do tha same routines because before 2000 olympics (i think) they not only competed optionals, like they do today, but compulseries also. optionals is when they do their own routines and compulseries they all do the same. they did compulseries so they could really compare gymnast to gymnast.
@peaceluvcheer97 - These are called 'compulsory routines'. Up until the 2000 Olympics, gymnasts performed the same exercises in the first part of the team competition. These exercises were designed to show 'basic' skills and it was up to each gymnast to perform them 'by the book'. The more precise the exercise, the higher the score. Compulsories were removed in the late 90's.
The rules of etiquette and safety don't change just because it's compulsories. That's a definite no-no in gymnastics per national AND international rules. I coach competitive gymnastics in the US. It is required we pull the mounting apparatus, board or mat, upon the gymnast beginning her routine both in compulsory and optional meets. The question is how did such neglect on behalf of her coaches affect the rest of her performance? And what would her standing have been after optionals?
@UltraViolentBMXer That is a rule now but I don't believe that went into effect until after the '96 games. You'll see a springboard in many competitions left near the bars or the beam for many countries prior to '96.

Considering Kerri's accident on this same routine in 1994 I can't believe they left the board in there.

The board was only left on Kerri's and Moceanu's routines. Karolyis falling down on the job?
