  • Lol, let me guess. These guys didn't know anything about samurai, until they watched Last Samurai. Then they just talked like they were official historians to convince us they actually did know something. Real professional.

  • shogun 2 total war, shogun 2 fall of the samurai! by them it will give you more info

  • If you all squat hold hands and take a dump, you are all equal. Unite people! common.

  • @4:13. My Mother's Great grandfather is in that picture but I don't know which one. He was there when it was announces while speaking about the US Black ships, "You cannot fight a Dragon with a blade of grass". After that, wealthy Samurai families sent their children to the West to study Western ways. That is how my mother ended up being born in England.

  • really informative and interesting

  • It's good we exposed Japan to the west. Everyone shall be enlightened.

  • This was so helpful! Very clear and interesting!

    Thank you for making this!

  • some great inforamtion here thanks

  • some sweet info here

  • the two top comments are feudal weeaboos

  • I love the fact that it's Always a White Expert on Minority cultures.

  • Funny how everyone blames westerners for this when in fact it was the Japanese powers that were the ones that killed their own people, all the western side did was introduce new military technology.

  • the americans thought the emperior and the shogun were the same

  • India needs its own Emperor Meiji...BTW Japan is Modern NOT western.....thats why westerners in Japan get HUGE cultural shocks the first time they visit. It is still the Japan of yore at its heart.Emperor Meiji knew the importance of keeping his culture intact while adopting modern/practical elements from outside for reasons, which again point towards strengthening their culture/country.Without modern industries and weapons we are susceptible to outside forces as is proven in Phillipines,India etc

  • Is very good that Japan is westernized!

  • Japan is in westernization!

  • Japan is a country that is falling NOT rising guysssssss~~~~

  • The Tokugawa shogunate lost power because those southern clans that wanted to 'expell the barbarians' actually copied western military tactics and got more modern military weapons.

It's kind of absurd that that for the sake of power the ideologies actually switched around. The conservatives became the modern oriented revolutionaries and the ruling government that wasn't converving traditional Japan was too conservative.

  • Western tactics? What western tactics, if you go to Japan and study phsyics, they have their own set of stuff.

  • I am an European.. But I love Asian culture more then the Western.. Asian culture is so beautiful why do we Western people have to kill al the cultures!.. We are realy stupid people! We use guns come on.. It is a cowardly way of killing --" You cannot force to change someone to live differently to think differently it is impossible. Respect for Japan and the Samurai!

  • @MCAleus what is ironic with what you said is that you are programmed by the media to kiss the ass of mulculturalism and you dont even see that in our country it is the foreigner and big lobby that destroy OUR culture now.

  • @MCAleus

What a nonsense. Asians want western culture because they didn't want to die of TBS anymore. Why do you want asian culture? Do you even know what asian culture is?

You forgot that some of the first major musket battles were in Japan? Japanese warlords picked up on muskets much faster than westerners and were more advanced in incorporating musket tactics in the old way of fighting.

Also, most samurai were cowards and traitors.

  • @Prometheus4096 Have some respect for other ppl's culture, mate. If you want people to respect yours.

  • @macrick

Why would I want others to respect culture? Even if it is mine. If something deserves respect, they will get it. I don't want anyone to respect any culture.

The myths around samurai is just fake and not based on historical fact. Nothing to do with respect.

Also, if anything I just praised them for their advances in warfare.

Remember that new minister of reconstruction that just got fired. That's Japanese culture for you right there. Talk down to your lessers, treat them like dirt.

  • @Prometheus4096 i think you make good points"but the whole If something deserves respect, they will get it."

notion is wrong coz you also have to "give respect to get respect" so if based on these 2 ideas no one would ever respect anyone

but i say give every one your respect equally and the its there actions that determines if they keep it..

not having a shot at ya coz it is true all country's have skeletons in there closet.

and the idea of samurais and there code is cool but humans are flawed.

  • samura ends thanks to guns.

  • Culture is looking backwards. Power is looking forwards.

How you look @ either is a matter of opinion. How you decide to act & behave because of those views is what is truly important & memorable.

As a simple man once said. "You can be liked or respected."

  • that famous battle was actually in 1600 NOT 1603

  • The Samurai fought and died for an already lost cause. You cant preserve culture in this day and age. With the radio, TV and this thing we're on right now, (the internet), its nearly impossible to play with swords in such an age. Perhaps if they knew that whoever has the most money also has the final say in culture they wouldn't have committed suicide.

  • They gave their own souls to fight for their mother land, and then Boom!! No swords allowed, how is this even possible!! Its a shame an horrible shame, its the same thing with Portugal and the end of the monarchist era...Long live the samurai spirit may their way of life and live trough the time and generations!

  • samurai s survived for so long

  • Why do Americans have to refer to Hollywood films for historical reference?

  • @1giblesp

Actually if you talk to Japanese historians. They'll tell you that most of the stories related to the ancient Japanese is more legend & folklore than actual fact. Since there weren't any cameras & no way to truly capture those moments of time, historians had to rely on those who knew the subject better than they do.

Afterall who else in the world can tell you truthfully who the Japanese people are then a native Japanese?

  • @1giblesp Because the Zionist media controls most of the US citizens minds.

  • 武士道

  • Samurai era fell, but the process was also done by group of samurai who wanted Japan to change to be more modern in order to stop invasion from oversea.

  • Hirobumi Ito was the main man behind the modernising forces in Japan. Japan modernised and became a great nation.

  • Is this for History Day? If it isn't I recommend History Day. It is basically a competition with a theme. (this year it is Debate and Diplomacy) You can create a documentary, paper, exhibit, etc. :D

  • the samurai era may have fall, but the samurai spirit stands forever!

  • things is that a lot of white men had it with the jew rule of the west. Is it going to be a rebellion against the jew and their hands?

    This is the question.

  • @srpopei In time it is inevitable.. With the internet allowing for free access to information & facts, more & more people in the West are becoming aware of this problem - ever since WWII the West has been truely dominated by Jews, Zionists, Internationalists & Marxists/Nu-Marxists; a Jewish financial dominance brought about through focused cooperation as an ethnicity & by guile.. With corruption this has allowed for cultural change through control of the media, influence over politicians etc.

  • @andy7666 wow!! after all this time i thought it was the dam N.W.O!!!! new world order peace:)

  • Are you all college students or something? lollololol

  • lol. Don't post comments if you don't understand??? lol lol. ... but... but... how are we to learn??? I guess an 8 minute and 19 second cheesy, you tube video explains it all. lol. FU

  • Had America not meddled in Japan during that time east Asia would today have been a very very different place.

Watching this video solidifies my conviction that U.S imperialism has unforeseen consequences that come to do far more harm than good later on.

No different to the meddling in Iraq and Afghanistan.

  • @kingmafi6699 meddled in Japan ... lol ... this has got to be the stupidest remark I have read in a really long time....

  • @kingmafi6699 Perhaps, but then Japan may still be a nation of swords and bamboo - very beautiful, but weak VS 21st century. Now, aside from financial & Sovereignty problems Japan is strong - she is almost homogenous racially & culturally & just HAPPENS to have low crime as a result! Technologically Japan is one of the most advanced nations, she proved her strength in the 20th century & so has proved to be a World player as she will again in future. The "Black Ships" are just a fact of history..

  • @kingmafi6699 But then why does your Japanese government continue alliance with US now despite being so developed in itself. Japan has the capability to become a superpower of its own and have an independent say. Your fighter jets are US-made, your military technology is still US-reliant and your government is obsessed with US.

How do you intend to be independent if you continue copying them in everything?

  • As the Japanese embraced the ways of the West, People from the West Embraced the Traditions of Japan. I'm not Japanese, But I'm Buddhist, Shinto, I study Bushido, And I'm a student of Eishin Ryu Iaido. I would like to think in some small way that what it meant to be Samaria lives on in me. Honor, Courage, Dedication, and self sacrifice, Should never be outdated. Or said to have no use in this day, and age.

  • @draco5638 honor courage and all those things you mention are great things but ever culture has thos ideals. wich makes us human beings. and those ideals most likely started in egypt considering it is the oldest empire. and sense all man came from africa long ago. also japanese people originally came from korea and china the mainland. wich all islanders do.

  • @TAKEMARU666 That is very true. Honor courage are not refined to any culture. Its a question of flavor. My ancestors fought and died for Scotland. They died with Honor, And fought with great courage. It is what is best in mankind, We see life as the greatest gift. For someone to say I give up this gift for something bigger then me, Or to say better to die on my feet then live on my knees.

  • @hammeylove Lol. sorry. This is Draco5638, my daughter was on my computer. I did not notice she had not signed off. :-)

  • Some of fhotos are not Samurai.

Farmers are dressed yoroi by photografer.

  • does anyone know the soundtrack to the music in the background at the end?

  • 3:38 what a rare picture.

  • in fact... by the time of Satsuma rebelion all the samurai have already get the use of the rifle... or other fire weapons.

the real last samurai was: Saigō Takamori... he was an officer in prince Meiji army. he wore a western fashioned uniform and he was a master of the rifle as good as a master of the sword!

the truth is the: samurai made use of the new weapons in their Satsuma last stand! but they run out of ammo and charged in a suicidal sword attack when the battle was lost.

  • there are still samurai today except none are of use in real battle the tactics and tradition were never lost they simply quit being useful

  • really sad, sad time for japan, killing samurai's with guns is just sad and a culture lost

  • Sad, but never forgotten.

  • japanese that time were brave... samurai warriors are willing to die just to preserve their culture... western pipol that time are the parasites...

  • @carlsause HAHAHAHA but we won, get over it, oh and look at history and you'll see the samurai were all around assholes and japan is better off without them

  • @carlsause The bushido (Samurai life style) still left in the modern Japan. many peoples in JSDF practice Bushido like the Samurais and IJA

  • The Japanese were eventually 'forced' to let him ashore (Perry) because of his demonstrations of superior fire power.....

    Japanese were unhappy..............

    Culture lost....

    Multiculturalism DESTROYS CULTURE

  • @jagerfaust2009 MY FRIEND ITS THE DAM N.W.O !!!!!!! THEY MAY LOST THE CLULTURE BUT THEY WILL NEVER LOST THE SPIRIT...... PEACE

  • @jagerfaust2009 Multiculturism is a disease that missionaries and muslims misuse from other tolerant eastern faiths to spread their own intolerance, dogma and ideological enslavement. Go to Vatican or Saudi and ask them to accept Japanese way of life. You would be either reprimanded or simply executed.

Middle Eastern religions 101 for you. :)

  • @jagerfaust2009

And anyone that says cultural relativism holds any weight is wrong too.

  • @jagerfaust2009 Culture isn't sacrosanct in itself. When cultures mix, they both change. That's called life and being human. Trying to keep cultures separate so that they remain pure is nonsense.

  • @conjoly Mixing the cultures (on a massive scale like today) has and never will work. Nature has set us apart just as in the animal kingdom. If you embrace multidisfunctional culturalism "good luck to you" and your "remaining pure" comment is overused and mis-informed....

  • @jagerfaust2009 Well, in fact, it IS working as we speak. This film deals with how Japanese and European cultures mixed, ultimately effectively, in the 19th Century!

  • @conjoly Re your "It IS working as we speak" NONSENSE...

  • @jagerfaust2009

i promise i will give my best to learn more about Japanese culture as possible to revive it in Japan, i wish Japanese culture to live forever, and i promise to protect Japanese culture from other thieves such as koreans.

  • @jagerfaust2009 Multiculturalism creates new cultures

  • @spadeofhartz if u believe that go live in middle of multi cultural hell go die by ur word

  • @ImperialGuardofIran ??? i live in a multicultural society have my whole life....if you have a brain you would know what is said, means, when 2 different cultures come together they make a new sub-culture...eg 1 + 2 = 3 bushido (Samurai life style)...is a beautiful ideals but humans are selfish so the code will never be fulfilled

please become intelligent not just pretend to be!

  • @ImperialGuardofIran only hate comes from segregation, we all have to learn to share the world.....tolerance

  • Comment removed

  • @ImperialGuardofIran lol you must be like 12 years old...i never said i was "no better the you" because i am a multitude times better then you (at being a human being) hhahaha if your life is crap its because you chose to live it that way...stop blaming your misery on others...

  • @spadeofhartz those who have to use insults to win the argument have already lost u have no valid point to make so u try to dehumanize me plz tell me how a 12 years old could be in uni? ur insults dont even make any sence

  • @ImperialGuardofIran insulted by being told you have the ideals of a 12yo

if your grown you wouldnt have even responded...im only 15 years of age and clearly leagues your senior mentally

kill yourself if you really think segregation is the answer to the worlds problems you'll really be doing the world an yourself a favor

i will not respond to your next comment and being the child you are i know you'll feel compelled to get the last word it (i wont even read it ill delete it)

  • @spadeofhartz i never said segrigation was the answer plz show me were i said that and look the fact that u cant articulate and oppinion and argue it proves ur my interlectual inferor so plz prove my point dont give me an inteligent responce

  • wester culture that time did not respect the traditions of japan... they simply want to conquer japan by first conditioning their minds.. the western way.. so bad.. so tragic..

  • Multiculturalism destroys culture..........

  • I don't see why they couldn't have both. The look of traditional Japan, but the tech of modern. Bring back the Samurai!

  • i wish i was an samurai :( i wanna become samurai ....!

  • dude ur hella dumb, a samurai live and die by the sword, ur jsut a idiot who wannabe everything that is cools, ur just a coward, probally run aways when someone gonna kick ur candy ass.

  • =) ....that's nice......but bro, i never run from fight...

im always starting up the fights and im never running....maybe we could meet ?

  • so call it a dream if i were to say i want to be in the army would you call me the same? people in the army die by the gun ok

  • thanks for the video, but a bit about how tokugawa came to power would have been interesting

  • Thanks. Ironically though it may seem, this video didn't even place in the competition we entered it in. I think it appropriate to give an internet (belated) congratulation to those people who beat us.

  • Great video!
