  • Saturday night TV used to be great! Gladiators, followed by Blind Date. Wasn't Catchphrase on early evening too? Ant and Dec haven't changed that much since Biker Grove! Neither has Pat Sharp since his Fun House Days! And Trevor McDoughnut, I mean Trevor McDonald on the news haha! I remember watching Diane Louise Jordan and Yvette Fielding on Blue Peter as well. TV now is nowhere near as good as it used to be!

  • The good old days... I miss the eighties, best times of my life

  • Can anyone help me find a TV show from the late 80's/early 90's. It was a British programme about a group of coppers.Mostly young, possibly being trained by an older detective. Not sure about that bit. I remember the end scene of the episode i saw was where one of the cops was held hostage in a shop and there was a bit of a stand off.I always thought it was called the Rockford Files but that was obviously the James Garner show. I am sorry this is all a bit hazy bt i was only a kid when i saw it.

  • @81Chipper Rockliffes Babies?

  • @nickpackham Thanks a lot pal. I only saw one episode when i was a kid but i never forgot it. Now i know why i thought it was called The Rockford Files. Bearing in mind i was only about 6/7 when i saw it. Thanks again mate.

  • Just wanna thank you for putting this up. You helped me find 1 show that I have been wanting to find for YEARS. Thanks :D :D :D

  • Del Boy falling through the bar at 1:28 was another great comedy moment.

  • Bang on about statement, bang on with the sentiment. Cheers m8

  • For the life of me, I can't remember the name of the gameshow at about 1:41 or so. It was a very fun to watch puzzle-type gameshow with the bald skinny host. Oh, how I miss watching that every week....even if there WERE only 4 channels, haha!

  • @WaterboyPhx Crystal Maze , and said host shown there is Richard O'Brien .

  • @WaterboyPhx Crystal Maze!

  • what was that show at 1:12? watched that when i was a kid, been looking for the name for ages!

  • @rekonizeplanb The one with Bruce Forsyth was probably The Generation Game,...or it couldve been Play Your Cards Right?

  • @MrJayel27 thanks, much appreciated :)

  • great memories ~ thank you :)

  • Love it mate, all these young twats on coke don't know what the old chill sessions were like, leaving the club at 4 am then off to someone's house that you'd just met till 2 pm Sunday afternoon, nobody was worried whether somebody was going to steal anything because that was just a no no.

  • Gotta agree with you mate tv today is rubbish compared to back then. ps pause at 2:01 for the most epic mullet in tv history

  • television today is crap...

  • 3:52 what is the show call? they are funny.

  • i liked this vid :)

i remember gladiators fondly. jet was amazing , and still is. the crystal maze was brilliant , and i loved star trek the next gen with marina sirtis. tv back then was excellent.

but when you think of it, we always say there's nothing on tv , regardless of the decade :) hehe.

  • Thank you for doing this, those words come straight from my soul, i was only born in 92 (18 now) lol but i remember alot, and i know i was only a kid but there just seemed to be so much more optimism in the 90's optimism on every aspect of life and at times death hell time even went on holiday, stood still sometimes, who knows maybe at some point further in time we will regain what has been lost or maybe in the afterlife (hopefully if there is one =/) we can all party with our dreams forever.

  • Mr Blobby would knock, (quite litterally), most of today's, 'celebrities', into a cocked hat.. At least he had a character and was vaguely amusing. Unlike a lot of what passes for, 'light entertainment', nowadays.

  • id gladlygo back to 4 channels if they brought back all the old tv shows

  • to mu5ab8ai the dragon was a program called through the dragons eye. listen to the song and youl recognise his voice as it was on loads of kids tv shows then. it was a grate show..... i watched it at school

  • I can't believe I use to moan about nothing being on when I was a kid: there was tons of stuff to watch. Can you remember when comedies were actually funny? Can you remember when dramas had real actors in them, and not rejects from Eastenders? Can you remember when BBC1 and ITV showed more than just soap operas? Can you remember when comedians tried to be funny, instead of acting like foul-mouthed teens? Can you remember when the UK made the best shows, and not the US? Today's TV stinks

  • It's amazing how a clip of 4:26 can sum up just how quality TV was back in the 80's and 90's. I'm 25 and clearly remember Buttonmoon, Funhouse, Gladiators etc. I remember that BBC clock. I also remember back then when you could watch a film on ITV and only have one advert break with an update of the news. Today you get 8-10 advert breaks.

  • @APriceProduction

From a 40 yr old, the 1990s were when the rot really set in to what we have today. Actually the 1960s/70s/80s were probably the golden years of TV.

  • @EgoShredder I think TV in the early 90's was still when TV was great. I love alot of the 60's and 70's and 80's stuff for example On The Buses and Only Fools and Horses.

  • ffs, HALF of this is the 90s or maaaybe '89

  • I miss so many of these shows. The only omission which I REALLY miss (although it did continue part way into the noughties) is Stars in their Eyes. I loved it though, very nostalgic. I actually squealed with delight when I saw Grotbags!

  • duz n e 1 have n e idea wat da kids show is with the dragon on 1:50 is......i can remember watchin dat

  • The quality can be seen especially i childrens tv shows in the 80's and 90's you could get shows that were challenging to children that wernt all 'slop' cgi stuff , the quality in animation and story telling has gone down this can only mean that they will suffer and become reliant on the same crap they grew up with

  • Roland the rat !! Bruce !! Gordan The Gopher !! Mr Blobby !! CatchPhase !! Rainbow !! Gladiators !!! Black Adder !! Fast show !! The Young Ones !! Zig and Zag !! One foot in the grave !! Bullseye !! <--- I remember so many of these shows and miss them greatly, My Memorys of when i were younger.

  • The era of reality TV and simon cowell destroyed great TV. And with the current obsession people have with talentless celebrities it's not gonna end soon.

  • @GazAnders69 It took me nearly a whole paragraph to express what you did in three lines. What are young people & idiots desperate to be 'cool' gonna remember about today's porn driven entertainment?... talentless scum like lady gaga & endless reality shows catering to the lowest form of intelligence? Yes & this will breed another generation of even lower values on TV/ Internet. The rot has well & truely set in. It should never have been allowed to happen.

  • @robhere1982

You hit the nail on the head with all of what you wrote mate, I couldn't agree more :)

  • Watching this makes me realize how innocent things were back then. I remember thinking about the future and being so optimistic. Now Im just overweight and willing to take whatever crappy retail job I can find.

  • "if only I could turn back time " indeed. I was happy back then..............

  • awesome absolutel awesome but just ONE but which i HAVE to comment on ' MAN JET (DIANE YOU DALE NOW A PERSONAL TRAINER) IS THE HOTTEST WOMEN ON THE PLANET

  • Nice tribute!!

British TV is crap nowadays. For example GMTV is full of garbage. Bring back The Big Breakfast!!

These days I mostly ignore what's on British TV and go on the internet for Japanese telly!! I love their Anime and their bonkers game shows. Plus Power Rangers was ORIGINALLY a Japanese called ZyuRanger!!

  • bugger me sooo much happy days. i remeber all of those programs. just a few i would have like to seen you bet, a-team,kight rider and baywatch

    thanks for the vid.

  • now i'm sad

  • @thegoodspindoctor me too. Im 25 and Im already old.

  • Well, this depressed me. Yes; telly was way better, but unless you have a few million viewers march on London I don't see how you can shake broadcasters hard enough to abandon their monstrous timetables of grey, same-tasting tat that they seem to love churning out today.

  • the generation game and noels houseparty, yes that's quality right there!

  • OK, I hope some one can help me here. I was trying to remeber a British show were they would show up and redo your yard before you came back home. In particular there was this girl name Charlie. She was a red head, kinda thick, and it always seemed like they was showing her butt. She was kinda hot, but then again what the hell do I know. Any help would be appreciated.

  • The show was Ground Force i think

  • Thanks man

  • was it while you were out i could be wrong but that was the first thing that popped into mind

  • @StarCar98 Ground Force

  • I found it very moving. In particular the bits with Mr Spoon, Grotbags and Jet from Gladiators.

  • I like the song youve used- "Turn Back Time" by Aqua

  • There was good TV but you have shown all the low-grade crap with the likes of Noel Edmunds!

  • Loved the Gamesmaster clip there, very good work mate.

  • wow, this awesome. Whats the song as well? I kind of remember the chorus!

  • (c) Ev eryone on air in 80's 90's lol

Nice video nice to see a clip of Chris evenas with

  • andi peters hasnt aged in over 20 years

  • There's plenty of good telly nowadays; I think you've just got your head stuck looking at all the shite ones. Also there were lots of bad programmes on in the 90s but you know how the time filter works, for instance, the only bands remembered from the 70s are the ones that are still to people's tastes.

  • Yes, indeed.I used to follow what little British TV there was in the US(No, Honestly, Python of course, Cakes and Ale) and was taken by the intimate quality, engrossing stories, and nuanced lighting, but by now it seems these qualitiys have evaporated.I once hated US tv for missing such qualities, but now it seems no countries tv has them.

  • Crystal Maze Pwnd.

  • fucking hell. Is the english language really that hard?

"Let me take you back to a time when there WERE only four TV channels".

    Sorry, personal issues :(

  • No worries - it annoyed the hell out of me too.

  • Has this video got parkinsons?

  • lol, that wis funny.

  • Yes Spitting Image was brilliant but hate how you didn't even include the best sketch.

But Spitting Image was very very good up until Giles Pilrow took over as producer.

  • So true, although I have to say I do not miss Cannon and Ball AT ALL!

  • fave'd and subscrbed even before video ended (1.43). My answer is TV sucks now. Childrens programmes are dumb and no longer fun, cause theres nothing like byker grove or grange hill aka a british real life sort of show that isn't constantly on re run. Movies allot of the time get repeated just a month or two after they have already been on.

There should be a channel dedicated to 80's and 90's shows, that is available to all unlike uk gold.

  • uk gold is kewl but it doesnt show half of what it should, mostly repeats of its own repeats all the time lol. there should be one that is exactly like watching tele back then! that would be kewl :o( i wanna go back to the 80s!!!!!!!!

  • Good vid...

  • so good -thankyou!

  • good video

    some right old classics then.

These days there is NOTHING good on TV. I like doucmentaries but in terms of series and orignal programming...nowt.

  • That really was a great video. Feel proud,

  • Great compilation- that must've taken some editing and compiling!

    Makes me feel all nostalgic

Instead of learning a magic trick!

  • i feel sad now

  • ZIZ AND ZAG !!!!!!!!!!!

  • I am 29yrs old, and I cant stand all this reality crap,t.v is just watching stupid celebs get loads of money just 2 do silly things. BORING!! I want gd old family entertainment,Micheal Barrymore, bring him bk!! I miss him,he made me laugh.Bring bk, Roy Walker Catchphase.Brilliant.! I am glad I was part off the tastful t.v generation. Thanks 4 your brill vid, addressing this problem with our day and age t.v trash.

  • good ol days, ey dont make wm like ey used to

  • No dangerous brian ? Jeremy beadle ? The infamous broom coulboard ?

  • I don't think we miss much! Those are not very good examples..The 80s were not a good decade.

  • Yah - the noughties are just SO much better. (Where's the rolls-eyes emoticon when you need it?)

  • hey all,

i really hope you can answer this lol

i watched a program years ago it was a british program that involved cars,

i think it was a game show but i remember they always had green VW golfs or polos in every round and also a offroad part of the show

ive asked alot of people and they cant think of it the closest ive heard is something like..... young master driver......

it was on BBC i think

    hope you can help

    cya

  • ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES FTW!!! Great list, I would have added Big Break as that was a great 90's show.

  • good times ! all repeats these days or reality tv crapness

  • Better TV, better times, better world.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • i didn't like many of those, and the decent ones like Blackadder and Only Fools and Horses are available on DVD anyway.

Nope wouldn't want to go back to shit like Russ Abbot, Noel's House Party and Bullseye, I prefer today - not because the programs are better (they are still shit) but because I've got a DVD player now

  • :O BLIND DATE! :)

  • Hah so many memories, thanks for this. Chronicles of Narnia did my head in but I can barely find fault with anything else on the list. 1980 was surely the optimal year to be born TV wise and catch all this. Perhaps a few years early so I understood more of Spitting Image but then I'd have ended up too old for Fun House. It's a fine line.

And wow I must have watched too much TV cos it's all recognisable.

I don't own a tv license now in 2009. Nuff said really.

  • I was born in 1980, and I know exactly what you mean.

  • Jet=fkin Hot

  • oh the memories - all excellent shows, all gone :(

  • Comment removed

  • you know the reason why tv not like this anymoe becuase of sky ect. The four main britsh channels couldn't keep up with the rest so they gave up. I mean they could afford to put shows like the wwe and sky sports on it

  • A brilliant video, most of those shows on there have brought back memories

  • I would not mind going back to 4 channels if we could have those kind of quality programs back

  • Jet from Gladiators.

    I would. Even now!

  • Would've been nice to be just behind her trying to go up the escalator belt things.

  • Very nice video,

  • tht was a gd vid but i was born 1990 so i missed out on most of tht but the thing i miss the most iz the original gladiators it was so much betta dan the new 1s :P

  • Fantastic stuff. I may be biased having been born in 1980, but this stuff was so much better than what's on these days, no?

  • that was great!! i am 25 and i remember all that! how the hell did we all survive with ONE tv in da house and with FOUR channels haha.

And that bloody good night from bbc 1. if you ever got to stay up to see that it made you feel like the world was over... as a kid i mean haha!

  • I don't know why that only has 4 and a half stars!!

  • I lived in the UK for only four months back in late 93'- I watched The Crystal Maze religiously- such a great show and ahead of it's time!

  • Favourite moments from the show?

  • Such a great video, I had forgotten so many on there! Funny how Jet from Gladiators ended up on there a fair few times *wink*

  • all we get and mostly on digital tv is the programmes repeated over and over just look at g.o.l.d all just repeated over and over for the last so god years... friends on e4 at the same time each week for so god how many years... over and over stuff taken off then after a short break is back on again over and over on everyday all eps shown in one week with 2/3/4 eps aday the whole shows are repeated from the start...waste of space digital tv is.......

  • what was that fat green witch from? that brings back nightmares =)

  • she was called grottbags arch enemy to emu in a windmill house thing and she was from the rod hull and emu show! weather weather altogether whats it going to do we dont know till we ask weatherman emu! although emu was just rodd hulls arm who died after trying to put up a tv arieal on his roof but then fell off.

  • Oh Wow that's such a blast from the past. There was not one show on your list that I didn't rush home to watch. So many memories. It all started for me with Saturday Superstore. Where did the good TV end? the last time I fondly remember was Mr Motivator and the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. After that TV just went shite and I lost interest. Who else spends a large portion of their spare time now on Youtube watching old TV shows? Your choice of music is perfect. Nice work.

  • Oh Vienna!

  • Quality video !! even has grotbags in lol tv was much better back then. Crystal maze, red dwarf and harry enfield !!! but you forgot to include bottom lol.

  • I just loved that old 'Channel 4' logo, reminds me of watching 'The Crystal Maze'. Happy days.

  • Great video. Unfortunately T.V. ( Which I have given up by the way ) is aimed at the cheap, materialistic generation who seem to have nothing in there life other than getting drunk, sleeping around and lusting after the latest fickle trend. This is reflected in the trash we see nowadays, no heart, no soul and nearly every show, be it fictional or reality based is full of unlikeable, no talent pigs. It won't get better thats for sure. I miss the feel good innocent years. :(

  • @robhere1982 At least we belong to this generation. x

  • @tsewacceber Thanks but I don't think any child of the 80's/90's can believe how utterly stupid the generation coming behind them have turned out. Yes TV/Internet is all about no talent titilation & suggestive porn now ( even kids are targeted, look at 'music' videos? ) but they have embraced it entirely & don't seem to care how rubbish something is, once it's 'cool' & 'sexy' they are owned. What happened to entertainment that moved you above the waste & left you feeling exhilarated? It's gone.

  • @robhere1982

I could'nt have said it better. In fact I may quote you.

  • God, I remember a lot of these. Seriously, what an awesome video!! Great song choice as well, that is one of my favourite pop songs from the 90s, and definitely Aqua's best song EVER (a big improvement on Barbie Girl...maybe ;])

Am I right in thinking that this song was on the Sliding Doors soundtrack?

  • OMG, i forgot about most of these shows, i feel old watching that back, i'll be looking at most of them back later and having fun and trying to feel young again lol.

  • I LOVE 80s & 90 TV and music

  • Superb, simply superb - when TV was innocent, fun-loving and pure quality. Even more special cos I grew up during that time. Nowadays, TV is mostly full of crap - they need to bring back some quality TV programmes.

  • I'm getting old! I can remember when there was just THREE channels!

And the BBC really did play God Save the Queen at the end of the day too.

  • Haha!! I love that all the Gladiator clips are of Jet, coz, quite frankly, who else would you wanna see!!

    Great vid!!

  • Button bloody Moon!!! I love it!

I miss Biker Grove, Noels House Party, The Fast Show and Big Breakfast, they're all absolute classics!!

  • You missed out Allo Allo, Hi-De-Hi,Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy to name but three

  • Ah, some of my favourite programs there.... so many memories! Thanks for the nostalgia trip there!

  • Don't bring other people down...! Why do you get to judge that you are better than other people? Why does it have to be what you think is cool? To some people this has a lot of meaning!

Your videos could be amazing but have some humility, show you're worth it.

  • Gotta admit I like some old programs, and these mostly look alright too! But I think it's funny, even though you've said quality isn't there much anymore, in another 20 years people will be pining for 2000-2020 programs, and music and things. Can see it happening :P

  • Ohhhh i miss old tv!!! i used to love bobs ur uncle and dame ednas neighbourhood watch!!! i remember that sheep but i cant think of what its off? does anyone kno? I used to love blind date too :-( apparantly they r bringin it bak without cilla!!!! BLASPHEMY!!!

  • Abso-f***ing-brilliant! Beautiful trip down memory lane x

  • yay save best till last spitting image;)

  • Can you tell me the name of this song and the singer ?

  • The group is Aqua and the song is 'Turn Back Time' - Number 1 UK 1998 from the film Sliver if my fading memory serves me well ...

  • aqua lena singer turn back time !

  • Pat Sharp's mullet lol!! Ah the memories!

  • I think i nearly cried a tear of nostagia when I saw Henry Kelly!!!!!

  • This really makes me sad. But I don't miss Chris Evans or Noel Edmonds.

  • Actually, if you look just at Saturday evenings nothing has changed. Blind Date, Noel's fecking House Party, Generation Game, 3-2-1 etc. compared with X Factor, Strictly clean my celebrity builder from hell etc. is very similar. Vacuous, shallow, lowest common denominator tripe. The difference is they've now learnt how to fleece viewers with phone calls.

Sorry to moan but you've managed the opposite of what you intended and reminded me just how crap most mainstream tv has always been.

  • Thanks for the effort, but I was a bit disappointed with that, to be honest.

I was expecting a better selection but you seem mostly nostalgic for really crap game shows, so called comedians like Cannon & Ball and Russ Abbot, ffs, and you seem to have a thing for Jet from Gladiators.

The best thing on there you don't even list, Fry and Laurie!

Still, at least you got the Crystal Maze. Classic, but went shit with Ed Tudor Pole.

Of those you list in your description I make it 42 shit - 20 good.

  • can you tell me the ones that are shit and the ones that are good?

  • Miscounted slightly but in the order they are listed:

    shit - 1-4,6-8,10-14,16-20,22-23,25-32,34-35,37-40,45,48,54,56,58,60. total = 39.

    Good - 5,9,15,21,24,33,36,41-44,46-47,49-53,55,57,59,61. total = 22.

A handful are debatable and a matter of taste, but most are just dross.

It goes without saying that Spitting Image is in my good list, obviously!

  • are you folling the video one or the list this guy done???

  • This is based on lifeisonebigorgy's list under more info.

  • but if you were following the list then you marked spitting image down as bad???

  • I make it number 53 on the list.

  • Its true nobody has got the talent these days to make decent TV anymore like back then. Now its just all the same reality TV big brother kind of shite and lets be honest any idiot can do that. Most of the best entertainers and comedians are dead or retired now. Its just got took over by hundreds of other channels with nothing on them. If TV was still like it was then we wouldnt need to get sky and save some money

  • cheaper to make relity tv than actual good drama eg

  • Excellent. I was actually saying to my folks the other day that back when we only had 4 channels, there seemed to be so much to watcH! now we have hundreds, i can hardly find anything.

    Many thanks :D

  • what was the t.v show called at 1.50 if anyone knows please tell me, it scared the shit outta me as a kid

  • That was bloody lovely.

You're right about the celebrity obsessed culture today. Its rubbish.

Just interesting to see the contrast between kids tv today and then. I know what I'd rather have my children watch.

    Nostalgia is vital :D

    Worzel Rules OK.

  • Great video brings back some great memories... Crystal Maze, Gladiators, Gamesmaster, Fun House, Timmy Mallet, Krypton Factor, Grange Hill, Bullseye, Hale and Pace, Harry Enfield and You Bet love them all!

  • I liked everyone one of them just mentioned!

  • Fun House Awesome!!

  • My God! These clips bring a tear to the eye. These were the days as a young kid you could plan your day around what shows you wanted to see on television...When you would rush home to catch Andy Peters in the broom cupborad or making sure you got to glimpse Jet in Gladiators!!

  • Amen!

  • Very well put together indeed!

  • Good memories, although there were a few rubbishy programmes in those days, the majority were gems.

Gawd knows why everyone likes the rubbish they put on today :-(

  • *sniff* I think there's something in my eye...

TV today is just crap compared to the 80's and (early) 90's. So sad.

  • Wow, Look and Read - I remember watching that at school! We lived in such a privileged time, didn't we?

  • no faulty towers ;p other than that, nice tribute

  • Faulty towers was 70's

  • true, still classic british comedy though

  • damn you and your nostalgia...........oh I miss those days!!!

  • Brilliant!! This was a much better time in Television history in my opinon. With the exception of one or two shows, like Doctor Who etc, tv has become a mass of Info-tainment and 'Reality' shows rather than the classic entertainment shows we enjoyed way back then.

Once again a great video, well done !

  • Haha! Fuckin' ace mate. Obvioulsy of the same generation as myself.

  • actually, sorry to say this again, what song is that from 0:25-4:20?

  • just type in turn back time, and see what comes up

  • the song is aqua - turn back time

as in im a barbie girl, in a barbie world !! thats the lyrics to the song by the way!! im not mad you know!1 haha

  • I love this video!! well done!! It bought me remember when i was little/teenage!!! oh god, Bring it back!!!! Blame on Youth trouble!

  • what song is that on this video?

  • I think the BBC has quality programs now. I love the New Doctor Who and also the Drama Programs it has as well as Educations Channels. Now Comedy in the form of My Family and My Hero. I think that they have improved loads. As for ITV well it always was stupid low budget shows

  • It all went wrong when they axed Big Breakfast. Since then TV is all talent shows and decorating. Total rubbish .. except for My Name Is Earl.. that's funny

  • It all went wrong when the mugs voted New Labour in 1997 and allowed the nanny state and the PC brigade to destroy our country it's heritage and it's television. Now it's Little Britain instead of Great Britain :(

Vote Conservative at the next election and let's put the Great back into Britain :)

  • Yeah, what happened to breakfast TV? It's all shite now - they don't even have any decent Saturday morning shows anymore! WHY?!?!?

  • its all moved to digital, cbbc, citv etc

  • OMG Look and Read - Through the Dragon's Eye i watched this when i was around 7-8. Does anyone else remember another program from the bbc called geordie racer - about pigeon racing.

I was born in 1980 and im now 27 - video makes me happy and sad at the same time

  • look bravely through the dragon's eyyyye, and flyyy!
