Mixing sounds a bit thin yes, and bass is quite clearly in the background,but I think it served perfectly the arena acoustics (purpose, don't know :). Metal songs (including some of the electronic tunes as well) -specially the doublebass parts -get very thick because of the arena acoustic.You can avoid this by mixing the song like this. Truth is,it mess up the final mix quite seriously. Beautiful thing is, people usually recognize good tunes, and don't give a shit about mixing and mastering :)

I agree with crocz about the mix. It sounds like there's no bass guitar at all which should be pretty obvious in this kind of music. Also the mix is very dry. Composition is solid but I did'nt found it very interesting. This could really use some strings and other stuff to spice up the sound. Now it's basically just drums, guitar and couple of square waves. Also could had used some cool chipmusic tricks like arpeggios and stuff so it would actually sound like NES :) Overall It's OK.

@Zeitball Ah so you are Aikapallo I suppose. There's a difference between a song that pleases the crowd, and a crowdpleaser song. This song is interesting at all, similar tracks have been made especially for the assembly music compos for years and they always seem to get to the top. The compo is so predictable it's not even worth particapating really. I'm not resentful for this particular issue, I'm just a resenful bastard :D I don't think the assembly public knows shit about music, out of chars

@Zeitball Yea the assembly music compo is pretty much doomed imo. The compo itself is fine, but the type of releases is completely different if you compare it to an actual demoparty. The audience is so gullible and to me it seems people constantly try to take advantage of that. I'd actually though like separate compo for acoustic and electronic music but I don't think it would work in practice as it would be tricky to define on which category the song would fit.

And yea it might be better than pretty much anything mass produced populist crap but that doesn't make it any better in of itself really. The reason why this is a 'one-trick-pony' is that it's based on the gimmick of having chiptune style sounds mixed with guitars. Every track has almost same sounds and the melodies are too similar for any of these kinda tracks to stand out. (Running out of available characters)
