@000Winter000 Your need to watch the business news. The recession is over. Sure there's some bad spots and unemployment will remain high. That's the new norm. We've exported 45,000 industries the past 10 years. That's free trade you know. Now gas according the Mr. John Hofmeister former president of Shell Oil will be $5 a gallon, maybe this year! This will hit the car dependent suburbs hard! Oil and highways will bankrupt the country.
@intercityrailpal Mr. Richard Branson of Virgin Atlantic Airways just said oil should hit $200 a barrel soon. That's if it happens $8 to 9 dollar a gallon gas! The airlines will fly into history! The highways will be empty. By the way Detroit is showing new life. Yes, Detroit downtown. Because it's now just about as cheap to do business there as in latin america. Alot of High Tech companys are now moving there. It will take years, and they have 22% umemployment. But there's a turn around there.
A big part of the problem with the empty buildings in downtown Portland is the "Business unfriendly" atmosphere the city unleashes on local businesses. The bad economy is just the icing on the cake. Sad.

@emcrash Thank you for your comment, I could not agree with you anymore. I live downtown and I have never seen it, the streets, or Max, with that few of people.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The mayor of Portland apologized Tuesday for lying about a sexual relationship with a male teenager he was mentoring three years ago, but asked the city to consider it an anomaly in two decades of public service.
@intercityrailpal I think you would like the documentary's "Escape from Suburbia" -"End of suburbia" - "Crude Awakening" - "Who killed the electric car" and "Walmart the high costs of low prices." Most are available online to watch for free. Hope you enjoy.
You could save lots more money if we closed country roads. After all they don't have much traffic on them. They can't possibly pay for themselves! I'm afraid when the Republicans get back in we'll see the draft back. I mean we got to have the oil right? Or do we? When america ran on passenger rail. We exported oil, gas was maybe 15 cents a gallon. And you don't like that?
Well, Aaron, people use those trains for work and shopping. What are you going to do when the recession is over. It will end, they always have. Max would be a private company if not for the auto companys who also worked hard to distroy downtowns with their malls and super highways to nowhere. You also might be traveling at a off peak time. Max uses america power! Not foreign oil.
The Tax payers pay for the MAX. It has a fraction of the ridership as regular buses do but costs millions more. So you Portland Oregon tax payers pay for it. That's why I vote against it every time they try and trick Vancouver into getting a line up here.
@DelbertStinkfester This doesn't make sense. The whole reason the highway lobby used National City Lines (today a trucking company still in business the last time I checked.) to rip up private rail lines was because when you converted from rail to bus you lost half the ridership. The plan was to sell CARS! Gas at that time was cheap untill they could DRIVE demand up. Oil WAS from america and the companys WERE american owned.
@DelbertStinkfester You might like to view a "streetcar named denial" right here on youtube. The same people that are spreading misinformation about rail transit want you to pay $8.00 for gas.And the're not North Americans! Or you will pay trillions for the roads of the future. Which will cost way more than a 10 foot wide railroad track. One railroad track can replace 10 lanes of highway.
@DelbertStinkfester Yes, vote for higher gas prices. Make everyone drive! More highways, that's the way. Send more money overseas. It also gets umemployment down! Petro Canada thanks you!
@DelbertStinkfester If Portland was anything like Vancouver, I would not bother staying in the USA. Sprawl, tons of lanes, box stores, liquor stores, laundry mats, just a total crap shoot. We will always have to subsidize transit all over the world. We subsidize cars FAR more than we do mass transit whether you drive or not.
@djkenny He rode to the end of the line. Started back and took pictures before anyone got on. Let's see the airlines (big oil users) just lost a billiion dollars in one week cause" ash in the air. Portland wasn't that great 10 years ago when I was there and I can only imagine what it's like now. I had the bright idea of trying to move there at the end of '98 early part of '99, I lasted about 3 months and then I was outta there. Oh, assuming I'm a Glenn Beck fan are we? Yes I came from Dallas and actually hate Dallas and Texas for that matter, but going to Portland, OR I found that there were actually worse places. Anyway, I have not been to the state of Oregon since March of 2000,but I see nothing has changed, looks like it's even gotten worse.
@inbredagogo I think Portland is OK, BUT the danger is in the mountains around Portland. It sits on the "ring of fire" I think there are 4 mountain peaks that could blow up anytime. @u2fornow the cars are more on the east side of the city the vast majority of traffic in the city core is via the MAX and streetcar lightrail systems. Not to mention biking and walking Portland is a very forward looking city most of us don't take the car unless we have to.
@stevemallen1 You're lucky! I'll never live in an other place that doesn't have passenger rail. When you don't have to use a car. It's like getting a raise! You have so much more money to spend on other things. Maybe even things made in America.
@intercityrailpal Exactly I really do not like to drive anymore. I find it annoying and a waste of time in most cases. I drive only on rare occasions like when I have to leave the city but the vast majority of the time I walk/bike or utilize mass transit. Like you said I save a ton of money also by not purchasing gas. I will never move to any place that does not have a decent mass transit system in place. Why would I want to be stuck in gridlock and smog when I can simply hop on a train or bike
Where the hell are all the cars? I have never been there and it looks like a nice place. But man, our city streets are slammed and look nothing like that. Has is always been like that?
Portland is such a wonderful city! Portland has had trains for years now we have the MAX light rail and the streetcar system. We actually have the most extensive system in the United States and one of the only systems in the United States. Some 120,000+ Portlanders ride the MAX system on a daily basis.
@stevemallen1 That's 120,000 parking spaces open for people who do want to drive! 120,000 cars off the road, sounds like cleaner air to me. 120,000 less people at the gas station. Sounds like lower gas prices for people who do want to drive. And it even uses American power! Not overseas oil. 120,000 less cars, less traffic open roads. It even benefits people who don't use it. Fantastic!
WOW, didn't know it was this bad in Portland Oregon. Never been there, looks like a nice place, how much is the rent for the average sized retail space? Nice report Aaron.
Hey Aaron...I live in sunny so cal, the temp is high 70's here, but dont think Oregon is the only place...so cal has a ton of empties too! Welcome to the Peoples Republic on the Willamette Aaron, This is a video that needed to be made, You only scratched the surface though. We got a lot of empty spaces, and a very biz unfriendly city hall.
They want sam adams to go because he lied to get into office, and of course his thing for little boys.
@TheDogDew.. .your an idiot you don't even live in portland you most definitely live out in some suburbia and are a wanna be member of the actual city. Sam Adams is still mayor because the overwhelming majority of people in this city kept him in office. Were interested in getting things done not wasting time on some moronic recall campaign.
@TheDogDew I culd care less about his sexual decisions, even if they were in poor judgement... it is not my business. Americans are really odd about this type of thing, most other countries, crap, the mistress is standing there next to the wife and president and no one blinks an eye because they have bigger fish to fry. I know I do. What is business unfriendly? Our taxes are among the lowest in the entries country, so that argument never works. We are number 44 out of 50 in tax costs.
You were on the MAX during business hours get on during lunch/morning rush hour/day rush hour/weekend/event season/concert/blazer game/summer. and your not going to be able to move.. that's how it pays for itself. You also have to realize that the amount of empty retail spaces can seem huge but when your in downtown a "lot" really isn't that much when you consider the massive amount of available space. It's not like Eugene were 10 empty buildings means something huge.
@stevemallen1 My dad hated transit too, untill he lost his health and couldn't drive anymore. Then wondered why we had poor service! I said " Dad this is the service you wanted" A trillion dollars in highways...and he couldn't drive anymore..sad :(
yea in my local mall they hide the empty retail space with clean dry wall and then place large advertisements on it for local restaurant Even though you knew there was a jewelry store there a few days ago you tend to walk right by that that dry wall. Its interesting how they hide the problem at the malls.
wow, depressing. i was going to move to southern oregon a couple of years back but i did not want to leave my secure job. still have the job. we will be doing layoffs but i will not be affected. too bad things are that bad in oregon.
Indeed. I wonder what kind of stimulus package Bumma has up his ass, I mean sleeve, for this time around? Another two trillion... or twenty two trillion?
you'l have to make your move before SHTF, because they will close all borders upon declaring National Emergency. I work in view of the American /Canadien Bridge. On 9-11 we knew something was up cuz the bridge was bumper to bumper and border closed within minutes.
@RunAMuckGirl2 In New York, Manhattan that is. Which is a Island. No cars or trucks were permitted in or out for days. The city ran out of milk and food, because no trucks could enter the city.Air service was shut down for days. After a few hours the trains were running. The only way in or out was by train. They were worried about car bombs. Cars there had to park in the middle of the street away from buildings. No cars were permitted on the south end of the island.
Getting out sounds good, but where is there to go. NWO is gonna be just that New WORLD Order. I know of no place that is out of their reach...the globalists I mean.
Good video. Oregon was one of the hardest hit states as far as change in unemployment rate and other factors. Im surprised it looked that bad downtown though.
Is it like this all over portland besides downtown or is it just downtown portland? Might have to do with too high of rents in downtown.
@adb024 You mean the 2 spots in downtown? You ever been to Detroit, now thats fucked, Portland has alot going for it except dip shits like you trying to show how poor P Town is. NO ONE believe this guy,
They said today that McDonalds and the low end restaraunts are doing ok but the pricier eateries are going out of business.Disposable income for fluff is gone and so are so many businesses that specialized in that.
I spent most of my life in Portland. Moved out two years ago. Those are stunning pictures, it was not half that bad just two years ago.
The MAX was always packed full for the two rush hour times, but after that it was not safe to ride it. Punks and druggies had free access to riders with no why out and no live responsible person in the cars. They killed the city with PC bull pucky!
Well eventually we will know who all the rotten apples are cause they`ll have the only buisnesses left i always said wal-mart / indochina goods will be our demise )o
Sam is a good mayor. You cannot blaim everything, especially the recession on him.

I said " Dad this is the service you wanted" A trillion dollars in highways...and he couldn't drive anymore..sad :(
intercityrailpal 1 year ago
@intercityrailpal Wow, that's too bad. But just one of many examples of why we need mass transit.

And my blind daughter says she sees nothing wrong around her. What a denier!
Anyways, it will be herd for her to accept reality once reality drags her. Sad, but sometimes family don't want to see what they don't want to see.

And it's just the beginning.

yea in my local mall they hide the empty retail space with clean dry wall and then place large advertisements on it for local restaurant Even though you knew there was a jewelry store there a few days ago you tend to walk right by that that dry wall. Its interesting how they hide the problem at the malls.

passport, cash an a friend abroad are the things you will need when the SHTF
gus196666 2 years ago
you'l have to make your move before SHTF, because they will close all borders upon declaring National Emergency. I work in view of the American /Canadien Bridge. On 9-11 we knew something was up cuz the bridge was bumper to bumper and border closed within minutes.
MYAR15SaysImFree 2 years ago
Wow, I didn't know they had closed the borders on 9-11.

The only place the NWO cant touch is the Kingdom of God! everything else is fair game.

Good video. Oregon was one of the hardest hit states as far as change in unemployment rate and other factors. Im surprised it looked that bad downtown though.
Is it like this all over portland besides downtown or is it just downtown portland? Might have to do with too high of rents in downtown.
skyding8962 2 years ago
No you can find for lease signs everywhere you look all around Portland.
adb024 2 years ago
@adb024 You mean the 2 spots in downtown? You ever been to Detroit, now thats fucked, Portland has alot going for it except dip shits like you trying to show how poor P Town is. NO ONE believe this guy,

They said today that McDonalds and the low end restaraunts are doing ok but the pricier eateries are going out of business.Disposable income for fluff is gone and so are so many businesses that specialized in that.
Gunnarsguns 2 years ago
I spent most of my life in Portland. Moved out two years ago. Those are stunning pictures, it was not half that bad just two years ago.
The MAX was always packed full for the two rush hour times, but after that it was not safe to ride it. Punks and druggies had free access to riders with no why out and no live responsible person in the cars. They killed the city with PC bull pucky!

@RunAMuckGirl2
A friend moved out of PTL since she could not get a concealed weapon permit to defend against that scaum on the Max.
