Sadly, talent shows on TV want karaoke singers not musicians as they are cheap and easy to market. Like artificial food flavourings have ruined the palate of people for years MP3 and what passes for music today has ruined the ear of a generation. Unless you have uber vocal talent you will only be judged by your looks.

@Zed1967 As a "karaoke singer", who had to give up instruments other than vocal, I have to very much agree, & thumbs up this astute comment. The art form of auditory expression, has been nearly divorced from the industry intended to support it. If it weren't for youtube and jam sessions, one could almost declare music to be dead.
