As Ive said ALL automakers will have recalls.They are designed by humans.My problem with toyota is how they handled this.They kept lying and claiming nothing was wrong then had NUMEROUS recalls which might or might not fix the cars!I had a friend with a new corolla.Hers took off and wouldnt stop when I was with her.Thats when all this started.Thats the LAST time I have riden in a toyota prodect and NEVER will again!Get madat them for lying to you which is what they have done and still are!SAD!!

a) Press the brake pedal (The drive-by-wire system would override the throttle position sensor and cut the power.)
b) Put the car in neutral (This also cuts the power.)
c) Hold down the Power button for a couple of seconds. (This is less desirable because you may lose steering and brake boost, but on a straight road that's not a big deal.)

This is clearly a hoax! The guy was on the phone with the 911 operator and when she asked him if he had tried to place the vehicle in neutral, he said "I'm trying to control the vehicle ma'am." Which is clear to me that he never placed the vehicle in neutral. He was holding the brake down with one foot and the gas pedal down with the other foot. When investigators questioned him, he lawyered up. Yet the media never addressed this clear case of fraud publicly.

The news I heard was that the front brakes were badly burned while the rear ones were not. This is what one would expect if a front wheel drive car were accelerating out of control and the driver was using his brakes to try and stop it. Why else would only the front brakes be burned? Take it from a former semi-truck driver (for a few months).

The cars gear shift PRND21 is not electrical thus all the old man had to do was slip it into neutral......and let the engine rev all it wants and since the brakes Were working he could pull over and come to a safe stop.......basically the old man panicked and lost all ability to think....sure there are electrical recalls on the car but since the gear shifter is mechanical what excuses is there?????

If my '05 Prius had the pedal stick, I could:
a) Press the brake pedal (The drive-by-wire system would override the throttle position sensor and cut the power.)
b) Put the car in neutral (This also cuts the power.)
c) Hold down the Power button for a couple of seconds. (This is less desirable because you may lose steering and brake boost, but on a straight road that's not a big deal.)
This mutt had major financial problems and evidently wanted to scam some money from Toyota.

This is clearly a hoax! The guy was on the phone with the 911 operator and when she asked him if he had tried to place the vehicle in neutral, he said "I'm trying to control the vehicle ma'am." Which is clear to me that he never placed the vehicle in neutral. He was holding the brake down with one foot and the gas pedal down with the other foot. The secreatary of transportation says the investigation is continuing. They havent finished with the lexus and the prius, the two cars with the most injuries and deaths.

@avengful regardless, once the car/transmission is in neutral the car is no longer in drive. therefore the gas will still be going but the car will not accelerate any more. thats when you hit the brakes and rip the ebrake and shut the car down. duh.

The news I heard was that the front brakes were badly burned while the rear ones were not. This is what one would expect if a front wheel drive car were accelerating out of control and the driver was using his brakes to try and stop it. Why else would only the front brakes be burned? Take it from a former semi-truck driver (for a few months).

It sure looks as if Jim Sykes was caught doing something illegal, definitely speeding, and gave that BS story to the officer just to get out of it. The cars gear shift PRND21 is not electrical thus all the old man had to do was slip it into neutral......and let the engine rev all it wants and since the brakes Were working he could pull over and come to a safe stop.......basically the old man panicked and lost all ability to think....sure there are electrical recalls on the car but since the gear shifter is mechanical what excuses is there?????
