  • I am so glad I would have to play this again for a while. It was okay, really, but going from Mock Morris to this, and having at least on Grainger piece all year...No me gusta. Our first clarinets (when they were awake) did this fair justice, I'd say. Not this level, obviously, but.

  • Happiest ending... ever

  • i like this song! it makes me feel all happy inside!!!! go flutes!!!!

  • Classical > Rap Crap

  • such a happy song

  • my school band played this for most of year, and as a result i can still play most of it from memory. by far one of the most fun pieces for band ive ever had

  • Awesomest piece my orchestra played this year. It's so catchy!!!

  • not my favourite piece...hardly any percussion

  • @michaelanthony151 "I dislike a piece because theres not enough percussion." Typical percussionist.

  • we just performed Molly in our last concert , it's one of my all time favourites !

  • Just performed this song at a concert and I NAILED all of my euphonium solos :D

  • awesome

  • I played this when I was in 7th grade with my school. I play Bass Clarinet and this song is my all time favorite!!! Our band won Texas Honor Band with this song. Which mean my Middle School band is the #1 band in the whole state of Texas. It was our 2nd time winning in a row, if you win once yjou are allowed to compete again in 4 yrs.

  • @Kassayy56 Played this in 7th grade....right.....that's funny.

  • my school's wind ensemble is playing this piece. i'm stuck with a lame mallet part but it's still a fun song.

  • We have this piece at my school.... solo clarinet part looks pretty gnarly. if only our clarinet sectional could tongue and keep up with this.... pretty sure every other section could handle this :(

  • My orchestra played this. But we only have violins, cellos, bass, and violas...I have to say I like the stringed version better....I love both though <3

  • @1212kendra I actually agree! We played this a couple years ago in our orchestra... but I can't seem to find a video of just the orchestra that's loud enough to do it justice :( Still a great song though!

  • I SWEAR UNT TAKES BAND STEROIDS!

  • If you've ever played the melody to this on low instruments, you know that this level of precision is God-like.

  • @joony13 Amen.

  • My middle scool band is owning at this.

  • low brass at measure 19 is beast

  • @dylanwaynemoore Actually it's low reeds (bass clarinet and bassoon).

  • @MrWuzzo sorry didnt know in my band its bass clarinets tubas and euphoniums

  • I really want to be first chair clarinet in my high school band just so I can play this piece.

  • go flute chromatic!

  • one of my personal favorites and playin this in my high school band

    monterey high school lubbock texas

  • 26,774 people have seen the great piece of work.

114 people agree with the great piece of work.

    GREAT! :)

-a middle school student in texas (We're playing Molly on the Shore)

  • @someonehasmylollipop rice? we're soooo gonna beat plano sr!!

  • I did this back in high school for concert contest with my band and played picc on it. SO MUCH FUN to play.

go UNT :) I love my school

  • Such a fun song for the clarinet... Probably can't play it anymore! Wish I could, one of my favorites!

  • i just reviewed this in band i llllllllllllllllooooooooooooooooovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee iiiiitttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I always ask this when I listen to this song but...

What tempo is it played at?

  • @demoncurry : this is 100 bpm in a la breve

    the score says 112 - 126 ^^

  • @Grownz All excellent interpretations I've ever heard of this piece are always under the indicated performance tempo. I have a hard time believing it was ever really meant to be played close to 126.

  • @philipminnis abload.de/img/mollypsbs.png As you can see ... ;)

  • the ending made me laugh. :)

  • I was fooling around with the solo clarinet part today and it is intense.

  • I love how at the clarinet solo at the end, the person missed one of the side keys, and played a b natural instead of a c lol

  • Even though it wasn't up to tempo, it was a good performance. My college band is playing it for CMEA here in Colorado but it is only at 112.

  • Wow this'll be hard, my middle school Orchestra's playing it.

  • yeah, a high school band can play it, but it takes at least college level musicianship to actually play this piece properly and most artistically. that being said, university of north texas's band is among the best, and this is pretty much exactly how this piece should be played :)

  • I love this piece sooo much!! I'm a freshman in high school, and I don't think the song is too challenging. I mean, after a couple months of rehearsal and practice it's easy enough. I play first chair bassoon so solo at 19!!! :) but we have a concert tomorrow...i hope we do well!! I have a tendency to rush... o.o

  • @IAMHAPPPY i play bass clarinet, i had that part too =]]]]

  • At the end, the clarinet solo is supposed to go from b flat to d, but goes to b. Good fight recording

  • We're playing this for my high school orchestra and we're not going NEARLY this fast! :O My fingers are already tangled enough as it is. These people must be legends!

  • this so fast i love it!!!

  • i absolutely adore this piece! i play bari though! but it is still one of the nicest pieces ever! percy grainger rocks!!! :D

  • Which is faster?

This or Ruslan and Lumilla Overture?

    honest answers please.

  • @mapleric I believe that the Ruslan and Ludmila Overture is a notch slower, though the it contains heaps of semidemi quavers which make it sounds faster, fancier...

We played it when I was in high school, and it was a blast, just love the trumpets arpeggio and the cello's soli passages.

  • this is the cleanest i have EVER head this song! I can actually hear EVERY SINGLE note in all of the runs perfectly and very clear! I am sooooo glad Im going to UNT this fall! :D CLARINETS!!

  • @angelofmusic2010

lol, are you in the clarinet studio?

  • @angelofmusic2010 GO CLARINETSSS!!!!! :-D

  • i played this song my freshmen year in honrs band next to the first chair trombonist. This song reminds of my freshmen year and how much it sucked :D

  • i love this piece....but i tried playing it myself and i nearly passed out from becomeing light headded on the baritone

  • I remember playing this in high school! I was principle chair for the trumpet and had a contest with the clarinetist to see who could play it faster! hahaha I won. But in all seriousness we played this song really really well, and won the heritage festival in boston with this being one of the songs.

  • Never got this song quite right...

  • where can i find free sheet music for this song for Bb clarinet

  • Hey! My highschool band played this song my senior year. I played the piccolo part. It was awesome. I'm a big fan of this piece.

  • I personally love this recording of it...I won't listen to any others here on youtube lol...we read this in band but didn't play it because we were already tackling 1812 and 6 other pieces haha!

  • is this a grade 5 or 4?

  • @Kookidd881 thankss[:

  • Our school band band plays it much faster, but we have a tendency to slow down. Our bass intruments cannot play their line fast as 1st clarinet.

  • I am very close to being obssesed with this song! This is one of the best performances I've heard!!!!

  • Ouch, wrong notes on the triplet in the clarinet at 4:00 xD. Other than that, this has to be one of the best recordings of this I've heard.

  • our band performed this we got 76 out of 77 at festiveal

  • @animeey whats the tempo?

  • My friend in high school played the piccolo part of this song... such amazing technique!!!

  • It sounds amazing but towards the end it sounds like the 1st clarinet played a wrong note and for the most part everybody crushed the triplets- my band director has been fussing at s for the past week about it.

  • Played for Superstate, we won, for the 15th year in a row.

  • I love this. My band plays a different Grainger piece every year, and this is by far my favorite.

  • definitely obsessed with this song. i don't know how many times a day I listen to it.

  • our first clarinet ROCKED this piece sight-reading today. she's such a boss. O.O

our band director played the solo clarinet part when she was in college too.

I realllyyyyy hope we get to play it! :D

  • This piece is AMAZING! Our high school played this a couple of years back... And kicked ass! Even though they took it WWAAAYY faster than they were supposed to, which you would think is suicide, but no. We pulled it off. <3

Great piece. I would love to play it :)

  • ha we sightread this for a contest piece and i'm in high school and my director loves this song. but us trombones just got bored because we had barely anything so we just decided to play french horn cues because our horns suck haha. the guy that wrote this, grainger i think, is so strange...

  • It's playable by teenagers, I was one when I first did it. The solo part is fast and high and FUN, the rest is challenging but not frustrating. Enjoy this piece and you'll love it for life.

  • @Toribus played this back in HS, the bass part at 0:30 was so fun!

  • @Toribus Playable by teenagers, but maybe not at this tempo. When I played this in high school, it was about a third slower, and that was fast for us at the time

  • lol i'm in jr high and were planning to do this song. not that amazing. it's fast and stuff. idk if our clarinets can handle that kind of stuff. Our 1st clarinet can, but idk bout the rest

  • I played this is high school... Let me tell you, SUPER HARD. My section leader my freshmen and sohpmore years is at UNT and my school had just performed down there at their festival this past April. There are some amazing bands down there.

  • same here. It was fun and hell at the same time on string bass. The bass part after the clarinet entry took me awhile to get right, but I managed to get it nonetheless.

  • no duh UNT has the best band programs

have you seen how many grammy's they have been nominated for?

and all their recording on here and itunes are the closest to perfect.this is even better than the Dallas symphony's recording XD

  • This is an excellent performance on the peice. I listened to it a while when our high school band was playing it, and it really helped me with how Eb clarinet should sound. UNT has one of the best wind symphonies in the country.

  • UNT is an EXCELLENT school, let alone their music program. I am actually considering going there, maybe one day soon!

  • geez

  • Thanks for the recording!

  • 素晴らしい! これ以上の賞賛の言葉が見つかりません。

    惜しむらくはステレオで聴きたかったですね~

  • ah, heavenly clarinets O_O

i'm so jealous!! i need to continue playing after this year (senior year HS, yeah!)

  • Bassoon opening rules!

  • omg... we just got handed this today. i play the poor Eb clarinet (aka the squeeking grace note instrument in the middle. and SUPER HIGH CLARINET SOUNDS) yes. my mouth has been through alot. xD we just finished overture to "candide" which was hard enough xD o well. its a good song.

  • UNT has one of the best if not the best music program in the united states

  • I'm thinking about going to UNT and major in Music Education, would this be a good place to go?

  • most definitely lol..i'd say it's like the juilliard of the south

  • Lmao.

  • Okay, first of all...chill OUT. Seriously. No need to get all upset.

Second of all, what makes you say that? Proof to back up your opinion?

  • beautiful balance and geez this was very tight. The melody sounds like one, vs 20 different players all playing the melody. Excellent tossing of the melody and response from the counter melody. Perfect arpeggios from the clarinets and flutes/piccolo. Oh which reminds me this is probably one of the few ensembles where I've heard the piccolo player play it the way it's written rather than bringing it down an octave.

  • Does anyone know the grade on this piece?

  • its a grade 6 =P

  • VERY CLEAN! :-D

  • Great performance! the clarinet triplet at 4:00 was some wrong notes or just really out of tune. Thats the only flaw I found though! I have always loved this piece! Grainger knew how to write some fantastic wind ensemble rep.

  • I used to play this song.

but it was never that great:\

  • maybe you were bad at it

  • lol :D

  • lots of clarinet parts :D

  • woooooooooooo... i soooo agree with you cay!!!!!!!!!

  • this song is awsome ^^ my wind enssemble class play this ^^

  • It's all about control and interpretation. We played this up to tempo in the wind ensemble at my school last year, but different band will have different interpretations of the piece.

  • This is about 120+ cut time. They are playing this very fast and clean.

  • Don't you know the #1 rule when playing classical music? Tempo doesn't give more credit! IF you make music out of the notes instead of just sound you are an artist and they sure as hell make music! And what if this ensemble likes it more slow than you? It's just a matter of taste! Don't be so fucking negative..

  • I, like Narutoinferno was in the Coakley Band that played this and won Texas State honor band.

I was the snare drummer, and if you want me to join a band to play this ill come out of retirement for $200 a show ( Im not longer in band but it was a hell of a ride. =D)

  • Oh my. The coakly MIDDLE school plays this song just as well. They're the texas state honor band, but good job from this university. It's one of the hardest songs.

  • coakly did play it a little slower though.. :P

  • The Coakly band played it very well for a middle school band, but they're nowhere near University of North Texas. As far as style, intonation, tempo, etc. go North Texas is just on a different scale; I mean it's an extremely well known university music program versus a middle school.

  • Very, very nice performance. What could you expect from University of North Texas? They have a good program. And who cares if one of the 100 trills was wrong, it's all icing on the cake baby.

  • I'm liking how the sax is able to switch fluidly from the legatos and slurs to the staccatos it takes practice. and the bass clarinet/bassoon soli thing was lined up and VERY clean.

  • at 4:00 and 4:01 the clainet missed the triplet

  • I am sorry i gotta say it like this but fucking way to go bassoon, you know your ensemble is great even when your contra bosson can keep up with the 1st clarinets and horns can play at FFFFFFFFF and still have a good tone. This is by far the most absolutest amazing performance of this tune on youtube.

  • This is the best performance on youtube. And the sound quality is also great. Great job all!

  • The balance in the ensemble was incredible, and there was no faltering even at the brisk tempo. They really made this song shine. Bravo!

  • Great job!!!
