the show is not actually about talents..it's the story and personality of the performers that get them to win..kevin is not the best singer but his humility and his background captured america's emotion causing him to have the majority vote..but this also shows that americans have a heart to the beaten and the they show how much they care for people honestly striving to succeed..

Jackie Evancho was clearly the favorite and most popular ACT, but the "fans" I guess gave the SOB vote to Michael Grimm. Doesn't really matter, she blew the competition away and will go on to much more success than all the other acts combined.
I like the guy, but his win had more to do with America licking it's wounds in the form of supporting a good ole boy and feeling a little better about it's self than it did the man's talent. They saw in him the personification of the American dream, and with that America had an emotional need to see him win.
More than that he represents triumph over adversity, an nationally shared emotion courtesy of the depression.

OK can I just say one thing. The only successful person on Americas Got Talent (and the only reason why its still on) is Terry Fator. Kevin is good ya ya hes a country singer. we knew from the start he was NOT going to be making platnum albums. Thats a little flaw of this show. The winner can have one of the biggest talents and you will probably never hear from them again because they either tour for a yr and make a CD or do nothing. I am a big country music fan so I am naturally glad he won but I also wish Barbara could have won. You don't have to prefer her style to hear how excellent her voice is and her story I can relate to. I can also relate to Kevins story. I am a visual artist with a serious illness that is uncureable. My husband and I struggle to make ends meet and we're very southern. I would love to make it big before I die but if I don't my kids will have a big collection of my work.

Country music is much more marketable in America than opera. In Europe Barbara Padilla most likely would have won. The fact is if this guys career gets going there is a lot more money to be made though concerts, promotions, radio, and CD sales for a lot of people. Barbara may have the better voice and more talent; but opera just does not have the wide audience in America. Opera is not a money maker like country music. It's that simple.

@ChristyThow It's closer to: the US simply doesn't "get" Opera as it's not pop, rock or country. If it was solely because of "emotion" there were other vocalists that put just as much into their singing and could sing better. I'm sure the "dark horse" would have won had AGT backed him instead.

At his first audition I was floored by his performance of "If Tomorrow Never Comes" and would play the YouTube of it again and again, sorry I hadn't recorded it off my tv. But a funny thing happened as the season went on: I never felt that he came close to the magic of this song and, indeed, for me at least, seemed to lose his way. I never felt that ANYTHING he did afterwards was as good, so I was astounded when he won. I dearly hope he regains that magic that first captivated so many of us.

Quite frankly, I had hopes for Kevin Skinner after his first audition. But that proved to be the best that he could do. All of his other performances were horrid. Too many people got caught up in the hype and felt like Barbara Padilla was not a deserving contestant. I didn't make this up. Many people have posted opinions on Youtube giving her scathing critique about her professional background. I guess she needed to catch chickens in her teeth while she was on chemotherapy to get the votes.

I like the guy, but his win had more to do with America licking it's wounds in the form of supporting a good ole boy and feeling a little better about it's self than it did the man's talent. They saw in him the personification of the American dream, and with that America had an emotional need to see him win.
More than that he represents triumph over adversity, an nationally shared emotion courtesy of the depression.

Sure. He deserved to win just as much as anyone else. He seemed like a nice guy with lots of gutts, and talent. In the beginning, when lots of people laughed at the things he said, and doubted he could pass the audition, were underestimating him. Judgin by covers, right? OK can I just say one thing. The only successful person on Americas Got Talent (and the only reason why its still on) is Terry Fator. Kevin is good ya ya hes a country singer. we knew from the start he was NOT going to be making platnum albums. Thats a little flaw of this show. The winner can have one of the biggest talents and you will probably never hear from them again because they either tour for a yr and make a CD or do nothing. He was good though and I wish him luck and he CAN make it.

I am a big country music fan so I am naturally glad he won but I also wish Barbara could have won. You don't have to prefer her style to hear how excellent her voice is and her story I can relate to. I can also relate to Kevins story. I am a visual artist with a serious illness that is uncureable. My husband and I struggle to make ends meet and we're very southern. I would love to make it big before I die but if I don't my kids will have a big collection of my work.

Country music is much more marketable in America than opera. In Europe Barbara Padilla most likely would have won. The fact is if this guys career gets going there is a lot more money to be made though concerts, promotions, radio, and CD sales for a lot of people. Barbara may have the better voice and more talent; but opera just does not have the wide audience in America. Opera is not a money maker like country music. It's that simple.

I was so pissed when he won. He started out pretty good, especially with his first song, but he just seemed to go downhill after that ESPECIALLY with the song, "you are always on my mind". that was AWFUL. Barbara Padilla has so much more talent and deserved to win! She had my vote! :)

At his first audition I was floored by his performance of "If Tomorrow Never Comes" and would play the YouTube of it again and again, sorry I hadn't recorded it off my tv. But a funny thing happened as the season went on: I never felt that he came close to the magic of this song and, indeed, for me at least, seemed to lose his way. I never felt that ANYTHING he did afterwards was as good, so I was astounded when he won. I dearly hope he regains that magic that first captivated so many of us.

Quite frankly, I had hopes for Kevin Skinner after his first audition. But that proved to be the best that he could do. All of his other performances were horrid. Too many people got caught up in the hype and felt like Barbara Padilla was not a deserving contestant. I didn't make this up. Many people have posted opinions on Youtube giving her scathing critique about her professional background. I guess she needed to catch chickens in her teeth while she was on chemotherapy to get the votes.
