I'm a Republican who is embarrassed by whats going on with the GOP and I give allot of credit to Obama and yes Bush screwed this whole thing up way before Obama hit the picture. Obviously I know that the Unemployment Benefits have a purpose in our society for people who are disabled or physically cannot work. But I see the Welfare System being abused far too often by people who are simply not motivated to find work because they have too many options being handed to them by the government

You wanna fix unemployment in the US? Take away the unemployment benefits. Healthy people who are sitting at home comfortably collecting their unemployment checks have little or no motivation to go find a job. If people knew that their next meal hinged on them finding work..? would be motivated and they would find work too. I see "Now Hiring" signs everywhere.. but too often people would rather sit at home an watch tv then to work a job that pays $10 or $12 / Hour.

@AEVautomatic are you for real- guess what - a farm here in wash state ran an ad for fruit pickers 14 hour/ in a depressed area- two locals showed up- the farm had to fly in "guest workers" from jamaica and puerto rico to do the work- are these the jobs the "illegals are taking"- by the way even illegals put more more money into the system then they use and will outwork americans all day long- reality is often painful- oucchh!

@salvadory Guest workers are not illegal aliens. Legal immigrants can also put more money into the system then they are taking. In fact the differential will be higher in terms of the amount of money put in. So, even if I were to concede your argument it would be rendered irrelevant by my superior argumentation. If illegals had taken the "fruit picker" job they would have stolen it from legal guest worker Puerto Rican immigrants. ARGUMENT CRUSH

@AEVautomatic well illegals would have done it for $8-10 hour- instead with housing food and transportation the guest workers etc the farm has struggled to stay profitble- so now the farm is struggling to survive(it was a local news story)- so theres a price to be paid- the jamaicians and puerto ricans took the money back home to spend it- illegals would spend it here for the most part! life isnt so black and white

@salvadory The solution of subjugating people via legal status is unethical and therefore unsustainable. That is pretty black and white. Also creative destruction is a fact even if you don’t like it. Places that are unable to compete go out of business all the time. Corruption is not the solution.
