I think the problem is that some people are confusing "Love scene" with "sex scene".. this is a beautiful love scene... and you even said it was an alternative to a sex scene. Nicely done.
They both had a bf and gf of their own, their was no prize for this and at that point we weren't really trying to impress anyone it was just for a grade. Plus even if they were actually together I still wouldn't make them kiss, I don't exactly know how much film background you have but it takes away from the quality
