Not many people know this, but the unsung hero of that game was actually Seganna Diop, for playing amazing defense on Tim Duncan down the stretch of the fourth quarter and overtime. It's a shame the Mavericks couldn't win the championship that year but I'm glad Dirk and Jason Terry finally got one in 2011.
BTW remember the size of the player does NOT matter - it's strictly if the player had his back to the basket or is facing the basket when calling a foul. It doesn't matter if Dirk was strong enough to fight through Bowen's grabs more so than a Kobe Bryant. It was still a foul. Most of the time the refs pentalize Dirk because he's so damn good and don't call fouls on shots/perimeter because again, he's not affected much by contact. That doesn't changed the fact that he still got fouled though.

I've seen a lot of legendary conference final performances before and I never saw someone score 48 points on 15 shots, not even Jordan. Not only was Dirk extraordinarily efficient, he was doing it while hitting an array of fade away jumpers over a good defender in Ibaka. Everyone else in the league would have needed 25-30 shots to get 48 points... not Dirk. Easily the MVP and best player of the playoffs... there's nothing anyone can do to stop him form scoring.
Every time i watch this game and the dereck fisher 0.4 shot, it always makes me think if spurs coulda had a 5 peat or at least repeated. i think in 06' it was more likely cuz we woulda beat the suns and then miami. Spurs fell behind too far IMO although they had the lead late, if they handle business they win by 10 or so.

I just didn't like this series because it felt like the referees favored the Mavs. I'm not implying the Mavs asked for it, I'm just angry at those referees. Thank you, Avery Johnson, for firing them a few months later. Plus, I don't like Mark Cuban, seeing as how I think he's too arrogant. I've seen a lot of legendary conference final performances before and I never saw someone score 48 points on 15 shots, not even Jordan. Not only was Dirk extraordinarily efficient, he was doing it while hitting an array of fade away jumpers over a good defender in Ibaka. Everyone else in the league would have needed 25-30 shots to get 48 points... not Dirk. Easily the MVP and best player of the playoffs... there's nothing anyone can do to stop him form scoring.

Every time i watch this game and the dereck fisher 0.4 shot, it always makes me think if spurs coulda had a 5 peat or at least repeated. i think in 06' it was more likely cuz we woulda beat the suns and then miami. Spurs fell behind too far IMO although they had the lead late, if they handle business they win by 10 or so.

I just didn't like this series because it felt like the referees favored the Mavs. I'm not implying the Mavs asked for it, I'm just angry at those referees. Thank you, Avery Johnson, for firing them a few months later. Plus, I don't like Mark Cuban, seeing as how I think he's too arrogant. But I really think the Mavs are a VERY talented team, and, as a Spurs fan, I think they will definitely pose a challenge in the Playoffs.
