Mike Post did the music for this show and so many others. If you watch the Mike Post interview on YouTube, posted by TVLEGENDS, you'll hear the great Mike Post say that the series creator asked him to come up with a scene change sound. Post told him that he should get his sound effect guy to do it and Dick Wolf insisted and told him that the sound would become legendary--he was right. Post explains that the sound is considered music and he gets royalties from it; he also had to buy Wolf dinner.
