if you dont think you can make the shot, good call on not lettin go....he more than likely will come back around...however, ya gotta keep quiet, lots of noise on cam, the deer can easily hear that....good luck!
good video..hell of a buck...its ok not to take a shot that your not comfortable with...never know, might come back tomorrow...but keep quiet...you can hear you so easily on camera, the deer can hear you ten times more...just a thoughts...good luck!
His ears were back and he was coming but something spooked him. I think I would have grunted a few more times after he was spooked, maybe it would have enticed him to investigate the decoy more. Great video and good luck with him if he's still aound.
I respect you, I mean its hard to pass that up and too NOT let an arrow fly... But if you knew your not comfortable with that shot, and your willing not too shoot... thats cool man.
It wasnt the decoy. The guys in the blind were whispering and making noise the whole time and the deer was looking rite at them. Thats what scared it off.
There are deer like this around because of hunters like you and I, who when they aren't sure of the shot they dont take it. you cant just fling arrows out there when your not sure its a clean kill shot. My hats off to you sir!!
We've got 40 yard pins. We've learned thru years of experience that if you're not comfortable with a shot then don't shoot. Congrats on shooting one at 35 yards!
Thanks, Looking forward to seeing you with that nice buck on film next year with a big smile as you tell how you passed right through him! Good luck Friend.
i wouldnt have put the decoy up.....it only works well with birds cuz they are stupid....i wouldnt have used deer scent and just used scent cover and get a salt lick and wait for it to be in the perfect spot to shoot it like the bow hunting part
Thumbs up man, You are much wiser and responsiable hunter than most! I think it was great that you told the truth about your confidence and in your ability! Many guys would have flung an arrow anyways, but you did the best thing you could have done if you were uncomfortable at all with the shot!!! Much respect in that dicession!!!

Thats what bow hunting is all about...I gave up the rifle 5 yrs ago and never looked back...Rifle hunting is to much like......SEE DEER, AIM DEER, SEE DEER FALL...bow hunting requires much more skill and a good hunter will only take an ethical shot..However i do keep a loaded shot gun for the possible burglar which i just cant wait for that day...
what a hog...look at the neck and body on that bruiser! i have never regretted letting go the shot (it is ethical) and even let an easy shot go to teach one idiot a lesson...i'd hunt with you any day (and i hunt alone)...
Great call on not taking an unethical shot. I hate getting on here and seeing people who call themselves hunters taking shots at multiple deer or shooting at deer that are lined up hoping to get two with one bullet. Hunting is about respect. Sometimes distance doesn't matter. When buck fever strikes even a twenty yard shot becomes unethical if you're shaking like a leave. Amazing deer and even better morality. Maybe you'll get another shot at him!
Thanks for the comment bal4405. You're absolutely right about having respect. Regardless of the outcome of the hunt, you can never forget that every opportunity is a gift and we should treat it like one!
I've got pictures of a twelve pointer with 4 main beams and the next pictures we got he broke off his whole left side then some fool on our neighbors property shot him, one big let down!
uk 1 good thing is that as big as that buck was...he didnt wanna take the risky shot and injure the deer or gut it...and couldnt find it...that was a good choice i also respect him...and it is a shame he had to pass it up it was a beautiful buck
Wow big buck.. That will make you do a little practice shooting while sitting.. 35 yard, a buck like that I couldent resist the shot.. Good call though if your not comfortable... Maybe next time.
The deer was close to 40 yards which was stated on the video. The hunter was also not comfortable taking the shot out of a blind that he had not practiced out of. It was an ethical decision and I have the highest respect for the hunter because of that choice. But thanks for your comment...
Always remember there are more deer in the woods. Its not always the kill, but the experience and the adrenelin rush is absolutely overwhelming! I love bowhunting for that reason, Ive shot big and Ive shot small and now realize if it happens it happens if it dont Ill be back again!
What an awesome deer and perfect light! Usually get good deer and no light or perfect light and a doe!
a friend of ours gave me a bow today! this is my first bow and the season started to day. im going to get my hunters safety education card tommorow so mabbe il get to hunt some. what kind of sight do i need to get?
I personaly have never hunted deer, but one one occasion in the top end of Australia where I was working at the time, I saw the Most Majestic Kangaroo I'd ever seen, I followed him for a about a mile I guess, I took the safety off on my rifle, but I never took a shot, but I wish I had a camera.
I agree with mike4652, sometimes it's not about a kill. I personally prefer to let the good ones go.
Just a question; I figure someone might help me out here. Why is it when I see bow kills they always look further down the body, more away from the heart. I'm new to bowhunting so I was just curious. Good hunt.
A deers heart is a little larger than a fist, the lungs are about the size of a paper plate. I'd rather hit lungs 100% of the time than heart 80% of the time. I'll always aim at the larger target if it is just as lethal.
Double lunger 10-15 second kill, Heart shot 10-15 second kill, heart like an apple, lungs like a football. either way he is dead quickly and aim small miss small.
When you know you are going to shoot this deer, disregard the antlers and concentrate on the spot where the front shoulder creases! Concentration and I usually take a breath prior to releasing and it is a natural motion from there!
Practice is good but nothing can help you when the hair is added!

the heard is on the lower part of the body... you'd be suprised of how many ppl dont know where the heart is. its less than 1/3rd up the body
hntrmn 4 years ago 3
Not sure what you mean. Can you clarify? If you mean further back on the body away from the heart it is because it's a larger target to hit vitals.
