  • Genius, a great setup and great inspiration.

  • crackin setup mate! saw your other lx200video and this is how its done!....brilliant!

  • @greedypigg62 Thanks for your kind words. Regards Peter

  • That's great stuff, and good images too. If you don't mind me asking, doesn't the weather/damp affect all that gear - and even worse does the shed get spiders?!

  • @bluesparklejet Hi there and a big "Yes" to both questions. The trick is to ensure you have plenty of ventilation so the dampness is not trapped and air can circulate - as for spiders - the "little devils" can never be stoped - You need to ensure your scope is well sealed with good fitting dust caps all round - thats why I tend to leave the camera gear fixed to the scope - its easier to protect it from the "little devils" who grow into the "big devils" that always tend to make me jump.

    Peter.

  • @brucepeter2007 cheers for that - thought so - spiders! they love sheds! still a nice looking set up. If it works it works - but just the idea of all that computing gear in a damp shed - like carrying a top dslr around in a carrier bag! but the skies look nice and open. good luck!

  • @bluesparklejet You are right about the damp air and the mains computers - did use a tower computer but the power supply used to crackle - it did not like the damp so it was back to laptops again because their power suplies dont suffer from the damp air...

Regards to you again - Peter

  • @brucepeter2007 Couldn't you just put a cheapy PC into an ice chest or something to make it moisture proof? Drill a few holes for cables, silicon around them, and close the box when you're done. :)

  • and I jizzed in my pants.......

  • @MrAlienpirate Sorry about that...

  • EPICCCCCCCCCCC

  • @macadoolahicky - Many thanks.

  • ok this is sumthin I want to get into...why would you have a laser pointer on your scope? I want a light switch tech meade scope..about 1500 bucks...this little house is a great idea..thanks..

  • @HamTheDog Hi there - The green laser on the scope is used as a sky pointer - saves looking into the finder scope and if its set up well it can be very good at picking out a star in any part of the sky quickly...

I made the observatory video because it was one of the best things I ever did. The set up time in the cold and the take down time when you were tired were all overcome with this simple shed....

Glad you liked it and if it helps you its done its job.

    Regards Peter

  • very creative......nice!

  • @TheCncmachine Many thanks for the interest and kind comment. This was the less expensive option and also still looked like a garden shed which helps keep the bad guys away.

Its still going strong after years of service and all the weather can throw at it so posting it here was done to give people and idea you dont have to spend a fortune...

    Regards Peter

  • wish I had 10 grand to splurge of stuff like that ... wish I even had a land to put it on

  • @calebp9503 Hi there - Had a look at your home made alt-as mount and its great - The kit I have has been built up over many many years so the cost seems great but most of it is very old now by todays standards.

I started by making my own scope - even grinding the optics on an 8.75 inch mirror and it was all made out of junk. - have a look at my channel and see my home made scope and you can see it cost nothing.

  • WOW ! EXCELLENT IDEA ! THANKS ;]

  • I have a hard on right now ... Truly amazing .. I'm looking to get one , a bit pricey Though. Found one on the net for $1500 like new , I think I will get one. Very nice !!!

    Santa ! I want that for x mas !

  • great!!

  • wow a superb compact set-up well done sir

  • @MrGhostrider1986 Many thanks - Simple and cost effective was what I wanted and its stood the test of time and a house move as well so it is a helping hand as an idea to others what can be done with a standard garden shed. Also has the advantage that it LOOKs like a garden shed - times we live in I'm afraid..

  • That is AWESOME! It looks like a generic garden shed but it's a hangar to the stars!

  • @pdutube Kind words indeed. The key to its concept was to keep the cost as low as I could and also keep it looking as a garden shed so it would not attract attention...

Again many thanks for taking the time to comment.

    Regards Peter.

  • I have just got as a gift from the other half, a Sky Watcher Explorer 200P on an EQ5 mount. I had hoped I could keep it in the kitchen and bring it out to the garden when I want to view... Alas, it is far too heavy for me to do this. So I have been trawling the internet in the hope of some ideas. I might even try this myself, but I have quite a small garden. Anyway, you must be very skilled to be able to do something like this. Well done!

  • nice little setup you have there, if i made my observatory like that, the local scallies would probably break in and smash up my scope n nick the pc :/ fkin liverpool

  • @paranorma1palace - Alarmed and two good dogs tend to do the trick - and I grind the bolts so you cant get it off the mount...
