0:43 that beat you play, there is a rhythm played with your right hand, but i don't know what is being hit, might be a drum rim or something i dont know, but it compliments the rest of what you're playing there starting at that point. really good cover dude!
@Cambodjaman Where is your drum cover? You can't play this song. I have covered this on drums before and I can vouch that this song is difficult, so a few mistakes here and there are no big deal, but to completely diss the whole video like it is nothing close to the actual song is just ignorant and proves you have self-esteem issues. Get your shit straight.
ATTN: Every drummer who wants to play the intro correctly... Play 16th notes on closed hats, ACCENT every quarter note and DECRESCENDO. This is the sound and vibe he sets, and everyone I've seen just keeps quarter note time with their foot.. It's the little things that make DC one of the best drummers ever. ty
Nice work! Tool always stood out from the rock crowd like a soar thumb, not in a bad way, i mean that they always sounded very unique, and each instrument was a pillar for the others. Bass being the most essential oddly, but without it there would be no Tool, then you have the drums to give it form, guitar to give it atmosphere, and finally the vox animate the tunes giving them a 3rd dimension effect. Their stuff is not for everyone but they certainly do not sound like any other band I know.
Hey can you help me? I have a cad 4 peice mic set, behringer xenix 802 mixer going through a behringer UFO interface and I use the program magix music maker. I finally got a good sound but it has to be at a low volume unless it sounds like crap, but it's too low!! Is there anything I can do?
I love this. I think one of the best parts is the mistakes. Shows that a big part of this was going by the feel of the music, which I find very respectable. Keep it up!
I love how the drummers on here who would have trouble covering an AC/DC song are criticizing a cover of one of the top three drummers on earth.46&2 is an incredible song to cover based on the time sig. and dynamics of Danny. You did a great job! I truly enjoy watching someone who holds Danny Carey in as high regard as I.
I'm sorry but merely the fact that you choose to cover a Tool song speaks volumes. Danny doesn't play in the same realm as the rest of the universe so matching or covering his stuff is usually pretty difficult. It may have been a little off but thats the reason they call it a cover.
Damn your such a bro , im gonna subscribe to you not coz your good or somthing just that...i dont know i feel your a nice guy from my heart rock on m8 i hope youll reply i want to know your name ty
They're electronic pads that you can use to program to make different sounds - Danny Carey has several of them mixed in with his acoustic drums to trigger some of the weird stuff you hear on their albums, like the opening of "Eulogy."
Not even Danny's perfect. As close to perfect as can be, but i've seen him drop sticks and stuff! He got that good by practice. Kudos to Snare Sectre!
in the begining there seems to be a lot of little nots that you missed out on. Listen really carefully in the begining...there are a dozen or so lightly played notes you missed. otherwise well done.
oops... stupid droid... anyhow... yeah i did take the time to write that. you post the video expect some feedback. i wasnt trying to insult you... but if you know its your worst why leave it? you really want to be reminded of how bad the take was? if you're better now then post it. you can obviously play so put your best stuff out there ya know? whats funny is everyone who is trying to cover this track keeps blowing off the second verse. why? that's such an awesome groove imho. happy drumming!.
Yes, I want to be reminded of how far I've come in both the video editing and drum sound. This was the second video I put up, so while my playing certainly isn't perfect, a lot of the timing issues were my inability to line up the song and drum audio - my iPod (which I'm listening to in the video) actually plays songs faster than they play when putting the video together, so over time the drums and the song get de-synced. I've long since fixed the problem, but it's fun to reminisce.
oh wow... this was like the worst tool cover man. I can tell you have some skill, but this is bad. I mean if you cover a guy like danny you gotta strike him note for note to get any kind of respect. adding your own shit to this track is basically like saying "I can't pull it off." anyhow... I'd take this down and a post a new version honestly. not too mention the timing was way off... you can hear danny's tracking in the background,,, but you already know that.

Awesome. Danny Carey is technically brilliant and inspired and to even attempt to cover one of Tool's best ever is commendable in itself. Great job well done - keep up the good work.
OMG dude this is crazy good. you need to start a band and get out there. ur one of the next ones. i can spot a good drummer when i see one and my alarms are about to explode(lmao that was really corny but i couldnt think of anything) keep goin dude get some more vids. try for some Patera or anthrax they are tough.
...mate anyway the intro is completely off time, and way simpler... :) I passed out to see again how you played it, cos I'm finishing to learn this song to play it with my band... there is a lot more stuff, it's rims and percussions... I readed the description, I know you wanted to "customize" your playing, but I really suggest you to change the part at 3:00 and 3:30-3:50, cos Danny is awesome in those parts..and watch out for the tempo!!!! xD plenty of flams. The solo is quite good ;)
@KillerDrummer88 and you really should notice what Danny does, cos sometimes is great.. look how snare pattern is different in the part at 5:00, there're couple of bars, while you play them kind of similar ... Again, watch out for the beat, keep studying cos the bass drum is often out of time.... keep it up
My cymbals ARE more than that to me, but when I'm perfectly happy with the sound of my current ride (I don't care how much something costs or what letter or name is stamped on it - I care about the sound), I don't find it worthwhile right now to spend $300 on a new one. I also disagree with DEADMANSJOURNAL on which cymbals is the most important - I think hi-hats are infinitely more versatile and key to the set.
@SnareSpectre its just kinda hectic that you have loads of good cymbals except your ride it kinda seems odd... did you have enough money for the other circular pieces of metal that are quite essential to a drum kit? Plus the last I heard I'm pretty sure Hi-Hats are cymbals too? it also boils down to quality of the cymbal, the cymbal might sound pretty alright but it might crack really easily... so in that case its well worth spendin the money
Every single one of the cymbals on my set was either purchased on sale or given to me as a gift over the course of the LAST TEN YEARS. I didn't just go out and buy it all at once - it started out as a 5-piece. My whole set cost me $3,000, or if you divide it out, $300/year, so again-it's not like I just have money laying around. I've never heard of a ride cracking save for mis-use, and I never said hi-hats are not cymbals, because they are. No idea where you come up with all this.
I don't know which comment you're replying to, so I'll assume like everyone else you're asking how much that stuff costs. The white drum set is my dad's - not mine - and he's had it for 35+ years. The mics used in this video cost around $200-300 for all of them, and were a gift to me from my parents the Christmas before this was made. The mic cables were my dad's, as was the mixer and recorder. Since then (2 years) I've invested maybe $250 more on recording hardware.
Price and a brand name doesn't equal "decent" or "better". It depends on the sound the drummer wants, and if a supposedly "less decent" cymbal gives him his sound, then so be it.
hey man, not bad... but almost all sounded like a flam with original song, you're off beat... keep it up, but study more with metronome on rudiments and easier grooves, it helps..not easy song,,,,, an advice, at 5:05 the solo is not doing 16ths triplets, he gives 2 strokes on snare drum each time
My timing wasn't impeccable on this song, but a lot of the "flam"-y sounding stuff is actually because I was very new to synching audio between drums and the song - this is like the 3rd video I'd ever made, so I was still at the point where it took hours on end to put everything together and I was happier with lower-quality stuff. :)
This is one I plan to re-do in the future now that it's been about 2 years and the quality of my videos has improved ten-fold. Thanks for the comment/view!
@climz1989 lol, again, gtfo... I'm not a double bass drummer, I was just having fun, you can't understand my skills and experiences from that video...so again.
I was talking freely with this guy, give him some advices, and he understood that mine was a constructive comments, cos (you won't believe that) I'm actually as good as him, so we can see each other mistakes, I got ears, you know.
people saying "OMG YOU'RE SO GOOD!!" on youtube for our skill levels are beginners, like commenters in my vid
Not to get into the middle of this argument raging in the comments of my video, but I think it's worth pointing out that I've mentioned several times in previous comments that this is one of the very worst videos I've posted on YouTube. Unfortunately, it's my most viewed one so it gets the most comments and all that, but it's not really an indication of a) my music tastes, or b) my skill level (in my opinion). It's nearly two years old, too, so I leave it up to remind myself of my progress.
@SnareSpectre this maybe true man, but at least you can actually here the definition of your kit compared to the recording, considering how great your kit looks and how well it's recorded and the stature of Tool, there's far too much poser covers of them, where you can't hear their kit at all. i personally think you done really well, warts n all. Danny Carey is probably the best drummer alive at the moment. only thing i can add is learn some Zappa :D
Thanks - I appreciate it! I may redo this cover at some point and make it really good, since it has been 2 1/2 years and the drums sound a ton better now.
P.S. I'll have to respectfully disagree on Danny being the best drummer alive...have you listened to Gavin Harrison or Thomas Lang? :D
@SnareSpectre They're not names I'm familiar with but will be now! :D
I guess I made quite a subjective comment, cos like notes, harmonics and harmonies; rhythm and timbre is a subjective thing to like. Still think you should post some Zappa covers though ;)
Dude, you freakin' ROCK! I would love to jam with you...TOOL forever! And keep adding your parts...they fit in well...I especially like the double pedal bass towards the end there.
What is so cool about Danny Carey is if you have ever tried to play a Tool song you get the biggest arm pump. I can get over how he plays these songs night after night. Good work on the kit mate
I always considered racks/arms to be "stands," but I guess they don't qualify - so I guess to answer M3350Z's original question: yes, I do have a stand for each cymbal, with the exception of two boom arms hanging off of two existing cymbal stands.
@SnareSpectre You can use vegatation in some set-ups. Some set-ups will allow you to rack your bronze up on veg. An enviro-friendly guy we should be to each oher.
Great work mate, and good on you for posting it (most people posting here wouldn't be brave enough). One of my fave songs of all time. As for the size of the kit, who cares? It obviously works for you! Well done.
pfft, smaller drumkit my ass. Considering throughout the whole cover he only neglected to use 3 of the inverted cymbals, I'd say his kit is the right size
Escox iQ = number of peices this guy has on his kit divided by the amount hate he gets from his retarded comment.
dude gets stupider day by day

Man..........you do know that just because you have a big drum set it doesn't mean that you can actually play drums right?? Stick to playing twinkle twinkle little star 'till you actually know something about drums so you can at least try to do something this difficult.
Excellent drumming!! I see you modeled your kit after Ringo's... ;)) I think it's a cool kit, but it must be HELL getting that rig to the gig, and THEN setting it up.. But you did take the guesswork out of buying cymbals-you bought the entire Zildjan catalog!! Wow! Keep rockin, and peace..

The mic cables were my dad's, as was the mixer and recorder. Since then (2 years) I've invested maybe $250 more on recording hardware.
SnareSpectre 1 year ago
@SnareSpectre the mics are cad right? do they work well? are they worth the money?
Wakatempo 1 year ago
@DEADMANSJOURNAL
Price and a brand name doesn't equal "decent" or "better". It depends on the sound the drummer wants, and if a supposedly "less decent" cymbal gives him his sound, then so be it.
ModPrime 1 year ago
@DEADMANSJOURNAL in fairness it sounds pretty good
manutdistrash 1 year ago
Do you own that whole drum set?
mashafasha5 1 year ago
great job :) how long have u been drumming? got any tips? ive only been playing 4 11 months.
HaloVidz1 1 year ago
Where do you have your condenser(s) to get that sound out of your cymbals?
coasternut3091 1 year ago
I'm actually not using condensers in this video - I didn't set those up until later. :)
SnareSpectre 1 year ago
@SnareSpectre So that's just your tom mics picking that up?
coasternut3091 1 year ago
Yep - and the snare mic.
SnareSpectre 1 year ago
@SnareSpectre I'm looking for some mics, what kind are yours and how much about?
coasternut3091 1 year ago
your set is insane
climz1989 1 year ago
hey man, not bad... but almost all sounded like a flam with original song, you're off beat... keep it up, but study more with metronome on rudiments and easier grooves, it helps..not easy song,,,,, an advice, at 5:05 the solo is not doing 16ths triplets, he gives 2 strokes on snare drum each time
KillerDrummer88 1 year ago
My timing wasn't impeccable on this song, but a lot of the "flam"-y sounding stuff is actually because I was very new to synching audio between drums and the song - this is like the 3rd video I'd ever made, so I was still at the point where it took hours on end to put everything together and I was happier with lower-quality stuff. :)
This is one I plan to re-do in the future now that it's been about 2 years and the quality of my videos has improved ten-fold. Thanks for the comment/view!
SnareSpectre 1 year ago
@SnareSpectre very well, then I'm waiting for the next job, let me know, I'll pass by!!
good luck ;)
KillerDrummer88 1 year ago
@KillerDrummer88 dude...."not bad?"....thats rough for a guy whose channel sucks dick compared to this guy's.....
climz1989 1 year ago
@climz1989 lol .... gtfo, you dunno anything bout my drumming skills and experiences.
KillerDrummer88 1 year ago
@KillerDrummer88 i can see from your "flat footed double bass" that you're nowhere near this guy
climz1989 1 year ago
@climz1989 lol, again, gtfo... I'm not a double bass drummer, I was just having fun, you can't understand my skills and experiences from that video...so again.
I was talking freely with this guy, give him some advices, and he understood that mine was a constructive comments, cos (you won't believe that) I'm actually as good as him, so we can see each other mistakes, I got ears, you know.
people saying "OMG YOU'RE SO GOOD!!" on youtube for our skill levels are beginners, like commenters in my vid
KillerDrummer88 1 year ago
Not to get into the middle of this argument raging in the comments of my video, but I think it's worth pointing out that I've mentioned several times in previous comments that this is one of the very worst videos I've posted on YouTube. Unfortunately, it's my most viewed one so it gets the most comments and all that, but it's not really an indication of a) my music tastes, or b) my skill level (in my opinion). It's nearly two years old, too, so I leave it up to remind myself of my progress.
SnareSpectre 1 year ago 6
@SnareSpectre I'd love to see your progresses, as I said ;) don't worry man
KillerDrummer88 1 year ago
@SnareSpectre this maybe true man, but at least you can actually here the definition of your kit compared to the recording, considering how great your kit looks and how well it's recorded and the stature of Tool, there's far too much poser covers of them, where you can't hear their kit at all. i personally think you done really well, warts n all. Danny Carey is probably the best drummer alive at the moment. only thing i can add is learn some Zappa :D
zabman23 7 months ago
@zabman23
SnareSpectre 7 months ago
@SnareSpectre They're not names I'm familiar with but will be now! :D
I guess I made quite a subjective comment, cos like notes, harmonics and harmonies; rhythm and timbre is a subjective thing to like. Still think you should post some Zappa covers though ;)
zabman23 7 months ago
@SnareSpectre you did a wonderful job man, congratulations....

You rock bro keep up the good work! (:
korndogg2004 1 year ago
What is so cool about Danny Carey is if you have ever tried to play a Tool song you get the biggest arm pump. I can get over how he plays these songs night after night. Good work on the kit mate
dazzla5936 1 year ago
Very well done, that one section at 2:43 needs some work, but other than that very good job on this song

Just wondering, do you have a stand for each cymbal?
M3350Z 1 year ago
Yes. I'm not sure I understand, though...what is the alternative?
SnareSpectre 1 year ago 9
@SnareSpectre racks / arm clamps.
themadtapper 1 year ago
@SnareSpectre Arms :) extension hardware
ebof2112 1 year ago
I always considered racks/arms to be "stands," but I guess they don't qualify - so I guess to answer M3350Z's original question: yes, I do have a stand for each cymbal, with the exception of two boom arms hanging off of two existing cymbal stands.
SnareSpectre 1 year ago
@SnareSpectre You can use vegatation in some set-ups. Some set-ups will allow you to rack your bronze up on veg. An enviro-friendly guy we should be to each oher.
Encrust 1 year ago
@SnareSpectre he means like havn the stand connecting to another stand as an alternative instead of a cymbal stand touching the ground
55k666 1 year ago
DAMN good job. Any attempt at a Tool drum cover is courageous but to actually pull it off...kudos man.
losermonster 1 year ago
i think it was a awesome cover dude not to many can pull this off!!! i love your kit!!

love the clarity of ur ride and some other cymbals but i feel like ur snare should be a bit louder though, especially since it sounds great

Great work mate, and good on you for posting it (most people posting here wouldn't be brave enough). One of my fave songs of all time. As for the size of the kit, who cares? It obviously works for you! Well done.

Thanks for the compliments! I appreciate you watching the video and taking the time to comment.

Too many drums? lol, obviously you fucks don't know shit about drums. love coming back and watching this everyone once and a while keep it up!

pfft, smaller drumkit my ass. Considering throughout the whole cover he only neglected to use 3 of the inverted cymbals, I'd say his kit is the right size

Man..........you do know that just because you have a big drum set it doesn't mean that you can actually play drums right?? Stick to playing twinkle twinkle little star 'till you actually know something about drums so you can at least try to do something this difficult.

@alchemist300fuck u know fuck all bout drums

yup small down the set!everything else is down cold!
231skins 1 year ago
Excellent drumming!! I see you modeled your kit after Ringo's... ;)) I think it's a cool kit, but it must be HELL getting that rig to the gig, and THEN setting it up.. But you did take the guesswork out of buying cymbals-you bought the entire Zildjan catalog!! Wow! Keep rockin, and peace..

This is REALLY good, considering Carey is a fucking hard act to follow, god blessed that man with the ability to drum.
