Unless your in a uniform its prob best to put down the gun after a shooting or put it away real quick, other cops arriving on scene dont know who you are they just see a plain clothed person holding a gun and over the radio they hear a cop calling for help, guy with gun. Many off duty/ UC cops are killed this way.

Guy walks into a place and robs a store undercover (UC) pulls out his gun they exchange gun fire the bad guy runs outside onto the street where the UC took him down, Two other cops in the area hear the shots run up on the UC (not knowing he's a cop) and while pulling the UC off of the perp a cops pulls the trigger shooting the UC dead. Its unknown if the cop thought the UC was a bad guy with gun or if the cop had a ND.
@Dougedoug14 They do have codes to call in and if that UC didn't call in the codes or if the other cops didn't ask or put it out on the radio then it's someones fault and they should be fired and put up for manslaughter for getting there own man killed.
@PoorDummIdiots i dont know of any specific radio codes meaning that its being called in as a UC, there are codes for different situations for example here in california code 4 means the situation is under control, where as code 3 means the situation is not under control and you need help. even if there is some code for UC's to use, it wouldnt make a difference because the two officers who shot the UC in question didnt respond to a radio call, they were on scene.
@PoorDummIdiots my point being that as an undercover officer, it is good practice to put your gun away when there is no longer a threat to avoid putting yourself in danger from any officers who might not know what the situation is, and simply see two people dressed as civilians shooting each other.

Then, when it went sideways her movement to cover took her right through the line of fire of the other officer and in front of the new 4000 pound weapon the bad guys acquired.. But it's easy to be critical after the fact when we've had minutes to review the footage. She had seconds to react. You never know how you're going to react in a stress situation.

First, the officer drew from her left hip with her right hand. Cross draw is standard carry for a taser. Later you can see her holster for her service weapon on her right hip.
Second, you can hear her fire the taser when she opened the door the first time, then when she pulled it open the second time, you can hear the clicking of her activating the taser.
Third, she warned the other officer of the weapon, then got out ot the line of fire.
wow..some of these officers want to get killed. I went on a ride along with the California Highway Patrol. No wonder they are high regarded for their officer training and approach to dangerous situations.

Most honk and wave or stop for a chat during chance encounters around town. A couple of them have become good friends outside work, sharing family outings, fishing trips, and more. Unless your in a uniform its prob best to put down the gun after a shooting or put it away real quick, other cops arriving on scene dont know who you are they just see a plain clothed person holding a gun and over the radio they hear a cop calling for help, guy with gun. Many off duty/ UC cops are killed this way.

Guy walks into a place and robs a store undercover (UC) pulls out his gun they exchange gun fire the bad guy runs outside onto the street where the UC took him down, Two other cops in the area hear the shots run up on the UC (not knowing he's a cop) and while pulling the UC off of the perp a cops pulls the trigger shooting the UC dead. Its unknown if the cop thought the UC was a bad guy with gun or if the cop had a ND.

@PoorDummIdiots i dont know of any specific radio codes meaning that its being called in as a UC, there are codes for different situations for example here in california code 4 means the situation is under control, where as code 3 means the situation is not under control and you need help. even if there is some code for UC's to use, it wouldnt make a difference because the two officers who shot the UC in question didnt respond to a radio call, they were on scene.

@PoorDummIdiots it doesnt matter. they probably do all of that, but there is still the possibility of being shot by an officer who does not have information about the situation, either because there was no call sent out yet or he didnt hear it. part of being well trained is taking every precaution necessary to ensure your own safety.

For example, the minimum training time for a german police officer is 2,5 years before going into service, a lot US departments only have 6 months.
But, you obviously never had a gun in your face or been in a high-adrenaline situation.
You don't act normal, but very instinctual.
You somebody shot, you see someone without a uniform and a gun, and you react.
He might shot you as well, never know.

@gtasalova6969 I know and I see the facts, this conversation about this particular case, but of UC-involved shootings in general. Many UC have been shot dead by other officers in mistake, so dropping the weapon IS part of the training.
1 year of training is still very little, and 1 year in jail doesn't help at all, rather the opposite.

Then, when it went sideways her movement to cover took her right through the line of fire of the other officer and in front of the new 4000 pound weapon the bad guys acquired.. But it's easy to be critical after the fact when we've had minutes to review the footage. She had seconds to react. You never know how you're going to react in a stress situation.

Watching the video, I noted several things
First, the officer drew from her left hip with her right hand. Cross draw is standard carry for a taser. Later you can see her holster for her service weapon on her right hip.
Second, you can hear her fire the taser when she opened the door the first time, then when she pulled it open the second time, you can hear the clicking of her activating the taser.
Third, she warned the other officer of the weapon, then got out ot the line of fire.

To help offset that, I've made it a personal campaign to show my appreciation to each officer encountered. It only takes a few seconds to say "Hi, I just want to thank your for your service. I appreciate what you're doing. And I honestly hope you have a nice day." The usual result is initial surprise, followed by a big grin and a 'thanks" in return.
