Yes, I am self-taught. The trick is to just learn a lot of difficult songs (preferably songs that you like) and just practice the songs. While you practice, learn the techniques, learn to recognize patterns, scales, how songs are written, structured, etcetera.

I started out playing songs from Slipknot's "Iowa" album and then worked my way to Necrophagist songs. Necrophagist and Children of Bodom will definitely help you to recognize scales and harmonizing techniques.

Haha, in the beginning, I was practicing a riff that I wasn't very good at, hence why I sucked at it so much.

I'm not saying that the action is "high", more like "higher." If you've ever played the Xiphos (my previous guitar), it comes out of the factory with really good (low) action, and any other guitar after that is going to seem to have high action. I would say that the RR24's action is normal.

It's pretty neat. I was surprised at how easy I was able to set up the bridge, I'm no pro with Floyd Roses at all either. It's not too much of a hassle, and I've had no problems with it, although I haven't changed the strings yet. Other than that, it's pretty flippin' sweet.

Someone showed me two sweep-picking exercises and I learned it in 5 minutes. That was back in January 2005, perfecting it took time.  You have to take it slowly and make sure that both hands move accordingly instead of just strumming and moving your fingers with no thought.

I like the guitar. I just love the feel of playing it standing up, it's up to you. The guitar I used before this was the Ibanez Xiphos, and the action on that guitar was much easier to move on, so, maybe I just need to get used to other guitars, but there's not much I can say about that.

Neo-Classical and Death Metal. Uh, some of my later influences came from Necrophagist, Kalmah, etcetera; earlier Death Metal influences came from Malevolent Creation and Slipknot (Iowa Album).
