i like how both Colvin and Stringer tried to change the way the game is played, didn't succeed, and when they fell they both said "get on with it muthafucka". thats awesome.
Colvin's position is representative of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP), which argues that preventing rape, murder, assault and major property crimes is more important than stopping people from selling weed or even coke - and yet the US federal government gives extra money to local police ONLY for the latter. I disagree. It's made clear in the aftermath of Greggs' shooting in series one that Rawls is good police, as well as having the political savvy to rise to the top of the department. Remember - it's Rawls who makes it possible for the homicide detectives to do their jobs, it's Rawls who works out where Bey and Little Man ran, it's Rawls who twigs that the signpost has been turned around, and it's Rawls who snaps McNulty out of it. We learn so much about Rawls in that episode. Great character...
Oh, I agree, he was a complete prick - I just hate it when people write him off as some "wannabe politician", when he was shown to be good police as well. One of my five favourite characters in the whole show...
As I recall, Rawls and Landsman have a scene together at the scene of the shooting, where Rawls works out which was the most likely way they went, and then, following that path, Landsman and Bunk find the footprints, hoodies etc. Can't check that personally, as I don't have my DVD to hand, but I'm sure that that's what happened...
