I'm guilty of equating real estate development and newly acquired economic power with social advancement. Just like the video says, you wouldn't know it, on a cursory look, how repressed the people are. That man in the vid said nothing has really changed since the late '80s. It just goes to show that these developing nations can create these instant cities but it's just a veneer that hides a lack of developed social matrices and social infrastructure and this is China's paradox.
