  • It has taken me years up to this point to remember the name of this movie, and find any video of it. By happenstance stumbled across it tonight. I remember watching this while I was almost to young to have memory of anything, but this was one of my earliest memories. On Christmas morning this was playing on T.V. and watched it, remember feeling scared, sad, and happy. Thank you uploader.

  • Wow, its amazing that the thing most of us remember most is the infinity thing, its that very memory that bought me here to find this movie. It also prompted many hours as a child pointing mirrors at one another trying to see the end.

  • Awesome.

  • Im another person who had nightmares due to the thing at 55 minutes, yet I loved the rest of the movie, and I'm so glad I found this, nostalgia baby !

  • Thank you Thank you !! ive been looking for this for years. ive been searching and i didnt have a title or name for this. all i remembered was the scene at 55 and how horrible it was and how it made me feel.

  • Damn, Murkami-Wolf put out some DAMNED good films back in the late seventies!

  • Omg! I love this movie. The can used to give me nightmares and made me hate doubled mirrors for a long time.

  • Dido!!!!!!!!!

  • thank you very much for posting this movie..

now i feel like im 4yrs old again..

    thankyou, thankyou.. God Bless :)

  • CREEPIEST @#$%ING THING I'VE EVER SEEN 52:25 RUINED MY CHILDHOOD AND MY @#$%ING SOUL

  • @NintendoLegendDotCom even the talking clock is creepy..

  • Alguien sabria decirme donde puedo conseguirla en español? esque es una pelicula que la vi de pequeña y me haria muchisima ilusion poder conseguirla.

    Gracias.

  • The lead rat sounds like the guy who played Longshank from the film Braveheart

  • This was one of my favourite films as a kid and it took me a few days just to find out what it was called. I will be watching this on repeat for weeks on end!

  • um the part where the first rat is eaten by the badger is cut out?

  • how much LSD...

  • Bizarre is a good word to describe it.

  • It sucksa how Youtube pulls videos like these for copyright. Maybe if these films were readily available we wouldn't have to watch them on Youtube...bunch of cyber nazis!!!

  • So good you posted this, I read the book to my son, we were on the same kind of adventure at the time..maybe someone will film Riddley Walker as an animation.

  • Log 5: Success! I have exited the WPoY! Now to get to that cat video...

  • Great movie. I remember watching it 20 years ago on the Disney channel. How ironic that I should find it here shortly after the passing of Russell Hoban, the author of the original novel - may he rest in peace.

20:22 and 55:05 always sent chills down my spine. Watching the latter scene now, I can't help but play the song "Harbinger of Tragedy" in my mind.

I never realized that Andy Devine (Frog) and Peter Ustinov (Manny) were in this - Disney's Robin Hood being one of my all-time faves.

  • RIP Russel Hoban

He died just two days ago

  • For a long time I thought I imagined this movie.

  • its soooooooooo sad when they get beat by a rock

  • Thumbs up if you realize this a beautyfull movie... and you are so old =D

  • @JosiJackson yeah right youre soooooooooo old!!!!!!!!!!

  • GREAT!! GREAT !!! ANIMATED MOVIE I LOVE IT!!!!

  • 0:55:00 god fucking dammit you asshole rat why?!!

  • The theme song to this is so beautiful.

  • I grew up with this movie and I adored it! But when I was about 11 or 12 years old, the videotape was so abused that the player ate it... Never seen this fabulous movie again untill now, and I am sooooo glad to see it again (it IS impossible to find it anywhere)! This means such a lot to me!!! Thank you!!!

  • o i love this thank you!

  • WOW!!!!!!! I found it! It has been like 20 years for me too!!!! This makes me sooooo happy!!!!!!!!

  • Anyone know if the title song is available anywhere?

  • The rat is Nero the Emo from Quo Vadis.

  • this movie had a huge effect on me as a child...it taught me compassion...the first thing that did...yet it is so creepy too... Ive been searching for this movie for 20 years

  • This was actually a lovely movie, and I could see the whole thing being a metaphor of how robots(Windups), with the help of some sympathetic human comrades(forest animals), could over throw apathetic, cruel human handlers(Rats) to free suppressed robot kind(the Windup slaves).

At any rate, terrific movie! Emotional, and while childish, has some good philosophies and thought food behind it. My thanks to the original creators!

  • OMG i've been searching high and low for this movie for 20 years! bless your soul! <3

  • BEST STORY EVA , it warms my heart =)

  • This is where Toy Story got their ideas from!

  • Wow, the old animated movies are much more...deep. And weird. And strangely satisfying to watch.

  • OMG! I remember this. With the toy mice joined together right? thats amazing! so sad we lost out to seeing this on dvd :(

  • God, what HAPPENED to movies like this?!? Everything was so well done, the story, the backgrounds, etc. The singer's voice was not perfect, but TOUCHED you in a way that few things can nowadays.

  • Having a full movie like this on things like you tube is illigal sorry for the spelling

  • @sweetstuff1112 yes but when its not even available to buy it morally ok. Because no one is loosing money. and we would all buy it if we could.

  • Thank you for posting this :)

  • it was on realy late at night for a kid

  • i was like searching for this. clockwork mice, windup father, and son mouse. lmao. friggen awsome. havn't seen this since it was on hbo

  • Thank you thank you thank you! I had this on VHS as a child!

  • Was this movie for children?

  • Wow, I've made so many posts in forums asking about this movie, but no one had ever heard of it. I, too, thought I'd just dreamt it for the longest time.

  • wow!! Thanx for yo copy made !!

Loved this movie a lot !!

my kisses and God blessings will be for you always !!

    Take care..

    Love you...

    Actor

    Preetham !!!

  • what a blast from the past this is!

  • Holy shit...Its real? Oh my God, it actually exists!

  • just great! axaxa

  • I loved this animation as a kid. I had forgotten the name and was searching for it for 10 years. Thanx for the up load. :)

  • best thing sanrio made

  • @RetroToledo ~~ I haven't watched "The Animals of Farthing Wood" here yet, but I took for granted that it's the original. If you'd like to see, copy and paste this: the animals of farthing wood season 1 episode 1 part 1

I do hope it's an unedited version.

  • Wow, this is fairly philosophical and symbolic for a children's movie, hell this movie (I'm assuming the target audience was 6-10) for kids has more to say then most modern movies for adults. Also I like the way they made the characters (even Manny) a shade of grey instead of black and white (metaphorically speaking of course).

Still I can see how the scene where Manny beats them to death with a rock could give kids nightmares.

  • @mdude009 It always bugged me afterwards to see him kinda shrug off like that after doing so,

  • i remember watching this long ago i like it!

  • What's Manny so scared about? Rat's teeth constantly grow. That's why you need to provide a gnawbone. RAT FACT!

  • @revseth I guess I had the impression he got his teeth broken out permanently, oh well, I learned something new today!

  • the frog sounds like Snarf from Thundercats

  • Released to Theaters in May 24, 1978, The story was written by Russell Hoban, the original illustrations were drawn by his first wife. I remember this cartoon in the movie theaters and remember how odd it was as a kids cartoon. That year Watership Downs and Lord of the Rings was released to. So the 70s were an interesting cartoon movie decade. Try watching 'The Point" also on youtube.

  • @AJG3842 If only we had something like that again this decade.

  • another mind messer rediscovered!

i watched too much TV as a kid i think... this movie and Unico in the Island of Magic pretty much shaped my life

  • why is it not split up into parts?

  • really loved this, thank you for posting! Better than most films around these days with boring endings.

  • Thank-you so much for posting. For years I've been asking my parents, "What was that movie we rented in the early '80s (on a Beta tape!) that had the rats and the treacle brittle?" They both thought I had made it up. I feel vindicated and nostalgic.

  • Some of the animation for the rats reminds me of scenes from Fritz the Cat.

  • This movie messed with my head when I was a kid. Seriously.

  • @PeanutButterZombie00 I agree with you. Wikapedia explained there was an occult undertone to the movie. But I didn't get that when I first watched it in the Cinema. It took a about a year to find this movie title. Again. Watership Downs and "The Point" are similar. They have a strange spiritual sense to the stories. To find "The Point" on youtube. You may have to type "Me and My Arrow" one of the songs from the movie.

  • @AJG3842 This film in particular was animated by Murakami-Wolf Productions, who also did "The Point" years before.

  • on 55:38 scares me

  • Great movie

  • "Do we fight for love of glory? No,no, we fight for territory!"

  • Oh noooooo! I remember this one! Back with Watership Down, Twice Upon a Time, Waterbabies...

  • The main villain, the rat, sounds a lot like Little John from Disney's "Robin Hood".

  • @MasterRavager The frog, also is the Preist. The Rat, to me anyway, sounds like the Prince John, not little John.

  • @MasterRavager It's Peter Ustinov, in both films. So you're right! :)

  • @MasterRavager that frogs voice sounds VERY familiar too.

  • @mzcyberbat yeah, the frog sounds like Friar Tuck, and the rat is Prince John

    awesome

  • @mzcyberbat

That right! Hmm, frog sounds a lot like Friar Tuck from Robin Hood as well! Thanks, I forgot about him!

  • @MasterRavager That's because it is the same vocal actor. Peter Ustinov. :3

  • OMG!!! I could never remember the name of this movie. I took a chance on mouse and child. Amazing! I loved, and was slightly disturbed, by this movie when I was a child. Thank You so much for posting it!!!!

  • Wow. I never realized years ago how deep and full of symbolism this was.

Especially the way the toys move about the way they want to, until the stern, authoritarian clock tells them how they "ought to" behave. Aren't we all like that? We move around on our own course, free until someone invents an identity for us, and suddenly we have limits we didn't have before.

  • Wow. I never realized years ago how deep and full of symbolism this was.

  • the scene from 55.00 used to and still does upset me. and just now, i played it to music from psycho....... it works! hows that for childrens cartoons?

  • Thank you

  • my dad took me to see this when I was but 7.

  • "Is this the world?"

    "I...don't know."

    "Is...THIS the world?"

    "I hope not."

    ...I know the feeling.

  • As a wee kid, I watched this movie and all I remembered of it (till watching it again now) was the dog food can scene. Let me tell you, that throws a lil kids head for a loop. I was contemplating the infinite for years after this movie, when I should have been playing with Star wars toys.

  • @toxlox I hate that, I often get caught in memory loops. They drive me insane! :(

  • The cartoons from when we were kids were so much better, more imagination, I just loved it!!!

  • I assume the Bonzo dog food can is named for the Bonzo dog doo-dah band. Or possibly Bonzo the dog who inspired the band's name.

  • Holy cow... I very vaguely remembered snippets of this movie from watching it as a very young child. I was about 4 or 5 when it aired on HBO and surprisingly still remembered the title. It's strange to watch a movie as a kid then again as an adult and all the details that you completely forgot become very familiar again...

  • Wow, this has some great actors doing voices!

  • @brokenyolk mouse and child spaz..... couldn't have said it better myself

  • always be happy sveet shwee children...............

  • This is the most underrated Nostalgia animated film on YouTube.

I LOVE THIS FILM! I wish children should watch this instead of crappy 2000 stuff as of right now. GREAT UPLOAD!

  • I used to love this movie, even though it scared the crap out of me.

  • favorite moment: 32:00

  • Treacle brittle! TREACLE BRITTLE!!! >:oE

  • jhk

  • i have been thinking i dreamed up this movie... i'm happy that i got to see it after almost 20 years. thank you.

  • @nicholeroutzhan

Yes I thought this movie was a dream also. Because the only thing a could remember of it was like 0.5 second clip at the tail end of the infinity scene. it's been like 30 years... i don't know why i decided to look it up now, but I'm glad I did.

  • Strong anti-capitalist over tones.

  • =(

  • I have never forgotten this movie... just could never remember the name.. and it turns out it was so simple... I remember being about 4 or 5 and crying everytime I watched it... thanks so much for posting it.

  • this film changed me for the worse.

  • This movie has been at the back of my mind as long as I can remember, but I could never quite figure it out. Just something about mechanical mice being smashed. After watching 55:30 I know where all the problems in my life have come from.

  • Oh wow. I'm from the UK, my Dad got this from the back of a van that would go from street to street once a week selling VHS videos...sort of like a very primitive bitTorrent...!

I'm not entirely sure my parents were aware of what they were exposing me to, and I still remember parts of this film roughly 25 years on from when I originally saw it, so it must have had an effect.

    Thank you!

  • @monkeyman1981 Technically, we would call this either "The Black Market" or simply video pirates. Shame though they had to operate that way than to work from behind the counter in a store. That's how we Americans did that.

  • This movie and the intro song always made me cry. I wish they's show it more on Tv

  • Is the torrent still available?

  • one of my fave childhood cartoons, and still to this day, i'm crying like an idiot. thank you again for uploading this.

  • This, and the Raggedy Ann & Andy movie, allowed young children of the 70's to experience bad acid trips without the high...

  • This movie is like watching a drunk driving accident in slow motion

  • Thanks so much for sharing this Coy. I have adored this song seems like forever and ever! This is so awesome. I love it. The chords are off the chart fabulous. What a wonderful Christmas gift to me. I want that SONG!!! Got to have it!

  • the rat they first meet sounds like longshank frome braveheart

  • wow...talk about a childhood flashback...I havent seen this since I was about 10...

  • Im so excited to see this! Brings back so many memories of my childhood. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS!

  • This show made me so sad as a kid. It was so scary!

  • This show made me so sad as a kid. It was also so scary!

  • This show made me so sad as a kid.

  • wow. What a great movie. A message of forgiving the enemy. Thank you.

  • What a cute little movie.

    I honestly couldn't help crying ;_;.

  • @ softshu David the gnome

  • @softshu

    The early 80's?

I think they were called "Smurfs".

    Sorry, I couldn't help it.

  • OMG! I remember seeing this movie when I was a kid in a school, during testing. They had all these movies for us to watch while we went out in groups to test, and I remember this part 27:30 and how horrified I was at what happened to the rat OvO;

Thank you for the upload ^V^

  • Holy crap this is still on after all these (5 ) Years!! I'm glad to've seen this again!! thank you!

  • What the song at the start and finish. I can't get it out of my head!

  • @SilverZeo88

    Tell Me My Name

Only cover I can find available is a very good one by Sherri Roberts and is on her 2006 album available through Amazon.

  • @CaptainSlug Thanks, this too good to be forgotten.

  • @SilverZeo88 You're not the only one. Saw this on TV in the late 80s and was hunting for it years later. I'm told the original book is even better, but the film is fantastic. Strange but very good. And the opening/closing theme is really sweet.

  • @JonasClark the book is fantastic. just finished it today for the first time. finding this here sent me on a mouse and his child spaz.

  • this was wonderful, thank you for sharing I really enjoyed it

  • I can clearly see the basic story-line for "Artificial Intelengence" by Steven Spielberg in 2001 wow! how original pfff lol!

When I saw AI it reminded me so much to this specific animated movie with two Mice who are in search for their happiness going through all kinds of situations and meeting all kinds of weird characters! :)

    I saw this when I was 6 yrs old in 1979 :)

Movies like this gave me my moral and made me who I am today!! :)

Thank you so much uploader! :) God Bless :)

  • NO! NOT THE DONKEY! ANYTHING BUT THE DONKEY! D:

    You b****rd >:(

  • @randomandproudqueen That scene gave me nightmares for years.

  • If you think this movie is trippy, see winds of change!

  • how did kids watch this and not have nightmares about the creepy ass clock and toys comming to life?XD

  • 9 minutes in and this is already the creepiest children's film I've ever seen.

  • cool movie!

  • oh man no offense to anyone born in the seventies but this is some messed up stuff! no wonder i'm afraid of rats! geeeez louise!

  • I watched this movie a ton as a kid. I couldn't remember anything about it except for the infinite dog food label that reveals the truth of the universe if one stares at it long enough to see the final dog. Honestly, I thought I dreamt this shit. But, there it is. Infinite dog food at minute 51. The rest of the movie is pretty terrifying as well.

Anyway, another source source of 30 years of my nightmares has been unearthed.

  • As a first-time watcher of this I just wanna say it was an incredible film and needs to be on DVD as soon as possible. I haven't been so impressed by an animated film in forever.

  • @Kooshmeister3 My thoughts exactly.

  • do you guys know of an animated movie with mice in it..the wife mouse ended up with the husband mouse's pendant with powers? and I think the name of the husband mouse is "nikodemus"???

  • @jamesbug2002 Actually the husbands name was Jonathan Brisby and Nicodemus was like the top rat or whatever...Anyways the movie is called Secret Of NIMH and there is a second part to it that me and my kids just watched this year.It was actually cool.

  • @KrysGful1 Ooooooohhhh! I love you! damn! a scene from that movie has been playing in my head...the lady rat or rattess held on to a pendant and it glowed red and a family of rats who were sinking into the earth in a hallow block was rescued by her..is that the same movie?

  • @KrysGful1 i have the book and could tell u all about it

  • @jamesbug2002 Secret of Nimh

  • I loved the book this was based on when i read it , I wish i could find it

  • I have to make a second post to thank you for providing this movie, which I haven't seen since it aired on HBO waaaaaay back when. I was well into my 20s, but I think it made as much of an impression on me as it did on the children who watched it. At IMDb's forum for the movir, you'd be amazed by how many people recall the dog food can the most, with it's references to inifinity. It's as wonderful as I thought it to be so long ago. Again, thank you for providing this treat!

  • wolficespirit's movie is actually a 1993 British series titled "The Animals of Farthing Wood". From IMDb: A group of animals have to leave their home, which was destroyed by people. They travel to White Deer Park to make a new home. Fox is the leader and Toad their guide. Also with them are Badger, a very old resident of Farthing Wood, Owl, who is very wise and often helps them, and Mole, Badger's friend. // I'd also suggest "Watership Down" and "Plague Dogs" though the latter is quite bleak.

  • @MystMoonstruck If only they had released the TV series here. The worst we got in the US was a version that was re-edited into a compiled movie of the first season with added music and Ralph Macchio playing Fox for whatever reason. No doubt they really didn't believe in this one at all here.

  • omgggg i remember seeing this when I was a kid. I remmeber it being dark XD;; it weirded me out too

  • never heard of this in my life, maybe because I was born in 1989, it wasn't shown on tv in the 90s

  • Watching this movie once again after 30 years leaves me with the impression of slight nostalgia and the many cheerful memories of childhood. My gosh,

where has the time gone, one minute you are running under tables and playing in school yards, then suddenly you are driving your own car and going off to work.

Alas, I suppose we should enjoy life while we still can. : )

  • That dog food can....omg...trippy....o___O;;;;

  • Oh man, I remember seeing this film. It was really really dark. And especially with the rock smashing scene and Manny's reaction for what happened after he did his deed.

  • Thanks for uploading this, but even after all these years, it weirds me out and makes me feel unsettled.

  • @starrynightz

it weirded me out as a kid XD its pretty dark and a little depressing
