  • CoolBalla did thay replace all of the ThunderBolts?

  • the only thing is the 2001-srnb and 130 we have both malfunction and soon will be replaced

  • Now that's the tornado siren I want to have. :]

  • That's really too bad they replaced it. It sounds so healthy, and was probably more reliable than what they replaced it with. I like Whelens, but NOT 2001's.

  • I'm from Rockford they had sirens with um how wud I put it

  • springfield IL where iam from had those i like those low piched ones better than the new A 2001-130 's that replaced them after march 12 2006 i wish they would have replaced the thunderbolt with the cyclone which sounds exteremely similar springfield also had my second favroite tornado siren prior to the march 12 2006 tornado , the whelen

  • Ah, okay. Thanks for the comment

  • Just be glad it wasn't replaced with an FS Equinox.

  • What's wrong with those?

  • @CoolBalla15

Even though they are 8-port 2001s, they sound HORRIBLE.

  • 0:08 is the button to make it go off!

  • Yep.

  • Is this the siren that was by St Lawrence O'Toole school?

  • Nope. It was near the Matteson Fire Department.

  • >:( that upsets me that they replaced it.

  • Agreed.

  • Sorry for the late reply. Lucky you.

  • ps:Why did they replace it if it still works? They mayor maybe saw 2001s and thought:"oooohhhhh lets get rid of that old thing and get one of these!"darn 2001s.>:O

  • I have no idea why they replaced it.

  • I saw a Thunderbolt today. Its paint was all faded.Bout a 100 feet away was a 2001.I dont know if that Thunderbolt still works.I hate 2001s cause they are becoming more popular and taking over. They ended the Thunderbolts.I can oly wish FS would start to make Thunderbolts again.:(To all T-bolts:Rest in peace, faded friends.

  • Sorry for the late reply. I know what you mean. They sholud start making them again.

  • I love the sound of thunderbolts but sadly my city has 2001's

  • Sorry for the late reply. Yeah, I know what you mean.

  • I'm doing the best I can to take one home... any clue?

  • Sorry for the late reply. I'm not sure if they still have it.

  • I heard they're replacing alot of the thunderbolts lately. whoever's in charge of that, they're all dicks. why would they replace them if they know that's the one everyone in the town prefers? and with a 2001 that everyone says is not even that loud? clearly a rather corrupt system we have...just for them, NOT for the people at all

  • Sorry for the late reply. I know what you mean. They should keep them until they wear out.

  • Classic Thunderbolt FTW...sucks it got replaced though

  • Sorry for the late reply. I agree. I really miss it.

  • I live in a pretty small town out in the middle of nowhere and we have two of these things! The audio for this vid is great! Thanks so much!

  • Sorry for the late reply. Glad you like it.

  • DAAAAM!!! look at the pole when it starts up.... The torque of the motor shakes the pole... WOOOOOOW!!!!

  • Sorr for the late reply. I dunno why it shakes.

  • I live in Tinley park we have plenty of these sirens and I will be honest on of them is on top of my school

  • Sorry for the late reply. Tinley Park, IL has 7 Thunderbolts. Your city is lucky that they test for 6 minutes.

  • question, you said this got replaced on April 7th, 2009? if i recall right, that was test day in Illinois, was the 2001 already up and running on that day or was the thunderbolt?

  • Sorry for the late reply. The 2001 was wired on April 7th, 2009.

  • @CoolBalla15 its cool. thanks for the info. was sad that the thunderbolt was replaced. i first saw it after the statewide tornado drill that same year. i had my heart set on it for April, then was shocked the 2001 was there :( always enjoy this video

  • I'm in Pekin IL, I will do the best I can to try to get this siren and bring it home, to A GOOD HOME(me!) I'll do alot for it!

  • Sorry for the late reply. I'm not sure if they still have it.

  • For as long as I can remember we've had a 2001-100. You can barley hear the darn thing! Too bad they don't have these anymore, it sounds real nice!

  • Sorry for the late reply. 2001-130s aren't that bad. They just had a pitch problem.

  • I've probably watched this video 200 times! Thank you so very much for posting! It is exactly like they used to test them in the 80's here in Rosemount, MN.

  • Sorry for the late reply. Glad you like it.

  • Could you hear the 2001 from this siren?

  • To be honest, no.

  • i live in crest hill. i am fairly close to that area.

  • Ah, okay. That's pretty cool.

  • I still wish my city still had it TBolt :(

  • Thanks for the comment. They replaced it?

  • @CoolBalla15 Yes.... When we built a new fire station 1 they replaced the TBolt with a 2001 but i don't know the model. i think we still have one or two but not in my area.

  • Awesome video, sounds erie, I bet it was replaced in favor of battery backup.

  • Thanks for the comment. I'm thinking that might be why, too. There was nothing wrong with it, though.

  • this sounds eerily close to the silent hill siren

  • Thanks for the comment. I kinda agree.

  • I just wanted to say thunderbolts are awesome to the max!!!!!!!!!

  • I agree with you big time. Thanks for the comment.

  • man they dont have those anymore man they give me the chills down my spine!

  • Thanks for the comment. I used to hear one of these sirens when I was a kid.

  • I think thunderbolts are better than 2001-130s.

  • True, but at least 2001-130s are a lot better than ATIs.

  • @CoolBalla15 i agree!

  • I have a question, please don't judge me, i'm from California, and we never get tornadoes. So, this siren, or when it was still there, goes off when a tornado goes by, or is near?

    Or how do they work?

    Thank you for your time!

  • The sirens over here goes off when Matteson, IL is under a tornado warning. Thanks for asking.

  • Dumbfounded as to why they'd replace a healthy sounding (not to mention the trademark wind up) Thunderbolt. Makes me wonder...

  • I agree. This Thunderbolt will be missed.

  • Im so glad Pontiac still has their old system of T-bolts and 2t22s. I was always afraid they would get rid of them and replace everything with more modern stuff.

  • You guys are lucky to keep your Thunderbolts. My city has nothing but 2001s, now. Oh, well.

  • the 1000T is a beauty! not many of them left anymore...the 2T22 was another Federal Signal siren that was a kick ass siren. the sirens that are out now sound totaly gay compared to the 1000T and 2T22s...

  • Thanks for the comment. I still can't believe they replaced it, though.

  • LONG LIVE THE THUNDERBOLTS!!!!!!

  • Thanks for the comment. I agree.

  • i like thunderbolts that sound like that

  • I agree big time.

  • @CoolBalla15: i think i asked before, was this thunderbolt located at the matteson fire dept?

  • That's correct. Thanks for asking.

  • We used to have a few of these in Kaukauna Wisconsin before they replaced them all in about 2000.

  • Sorry that happened. Thanks for the comment.

  • this siren has more drive than the 2001 siren

  • Very true. Thanks for the comment.

  • @kd0duj i agree!

  • Why is it spinning backwards? LOL!

  • It's a 3 Phase Thunderbolt. It can go either direction.

  • imagine putting your ear close to that siren

  • Yeah. You can go deaf easily. lol

  • Damn. Shoulda put a T-128 up there, as those actually are slightly louder at 100' than these...

  • Well, to be honest, Matteson, IL deals with FS only. But I do agree. I would love to hear a T-128 go off in person. :)

  • @CoolBalla15 yeah...FS is WAYYYY overrated. Why there so popular I have no idea, but once I saw EvanToTheFutureDude's T-128 in attack video...that was the creepiest sound ive ever heard.

  • That's what the siren where I live ( Hazel crest, il ) sounds/looks like. I used to be afraid to pass it when I was a kid, haha.

  • Yeah, I love the sound of these sirens.

  • i wished New York City had Thunderbolt & 2001 sirens to sound of Tornado Warnings, Hurricane Warnings, etc.

  • I agree. Thanks for the comment.

  • cool t bolt also check out fox river grove tornado siren

  • Thanks for the comment. I saw it already. :)

  • Wow, the siren used in Silent Hill 1 is right here. But which kind of siren was used in Silent Hill 2?

  • Thanks for the comment. I'm not sure, to be honest.

  • More like a STL-10 in the movie.

  • ok i was just out there saturday and the tbolt is gone. that intersection is somewhat SE of lincoln highway right?

  • Yeah. Why did they replace it for? There was nothing wrong with it.

  • that thunderbolt thats located at keeler ave and washington, is that also in matteson cause if it is i only saw a 2001-130.

  • Yes, it's in Matteson, IL.

  • Good news. I know where that other Thunderbolt is, now. I've found it on Google Maps. It's located on Washington Ave & Keeler Ave. It's also a 1000T.

  • awesome video!! The T-bolt in the backround adds such a cool effect. You're right, only the 3 phase units turn CCW.

  • Thanks for the comment. It's true. :)

  • There's another thunderbolt 1000t on Keeler Ave / Washington Ave,

  • Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks for telling me. I've added it to my map. :)

  • Can you also cheak and see if it got replaced by a 2001-130

  • Apparently, it did get replaced by a 2001-130. So, Matteson, IL has nothing but 2001s, now. Oh, well.

  • In the 2001-130 video when the siren winds down you can also hear the other 2001-130

  • when i saw that these tbolts got replaced, i found a 2001 by a school so that must where the other tbolt might have been located

  • Ah, I see. Thanks for the comment.

  • It kind of stinks that they replaced that thunderbolt. But what are you going to do? I heard that thunderbolt winding down in the distance. I agree, whenever I hear a mystery siren in the distance, I just NEED to find it. Awesome video of that T-bolt. It's a good thing you got a recording of it before it came down.

  • I agree big time. I didn't even know they were gonna replace it. There was nothing wrong with it, though.

  • How does it know when to turn on? sorry this is a bad question.....

  • there is a decoder in the af timer box. and the wail signal is controled by a timing mechinism. hope that ansewers your question

  • Nice crisp video!

  • Thanks. :)

  • I just noticed this is a B series Thunderbolt, because the siren rotates counterclockwise.

  • Pretty much. Thanks for the comment.

  • since its so healthy sounding, whyd they replace it?

  • Beats me. Nobody told me that they were replacing it.

  • well that sucks

  • agree

  • scary as hell..... O:

  • I'd say so. Thanks for the comment. :)

  • You know if a Thunderbolt would say break down and need parts (thunderbolt parts are not made any more wink wink)you would be stuck with a broken siren with very expensive part costs. So its better for communities to get newer sirens because they still make the parts for them. Plus Thunderbolts have many failure spots it could be anything. with newer sirens its easier to find the problem and correct it. If they still made thunderbolt parts im sure they would not be taken down like they are.

  • That's very true. Thanks for the information. :)

  • Well, at least they're much better than ATIs.

  • Someone should play taps for the fallen T-bolt!

  • Thanks for the comment.

  • cool i like it and i also reccomend tornado siren in fox river grove

  • I know what you mean. Thanks for the comment.

  • Electronic tornado sirens these days sound like plain whistles. They are hard to hear, because you dont know if it is a neighbor playing the whistle or a real siren.

  • Very true. Thanks for the comment.

  • why do they always have to gets rid of useful sirens and replace them with shitty sirens

  • Exactly what I'm saying. Well, at least the 2001-130 are much better than the stupid ATIs. lol

  • No wonder this video is so highly viewed. Best recording I've ever seen of a 1000T

  • Yeah, I'd say so. I wish it never got replaced. lol

  • its at johnson ave and locust st. just off of US30

  • Oh, okay. Thanks.

  • i was in illinois just last week and saw the thunderbolt in Frankfort is still up. the control boxes are in great shape so hopefully its not goin anywhere.

  • Do you know the street's location of the Thunderbolt? I want to add it to my Google Maps. :)

  • wow Brandon this video has been up for

    1 year

  • Yep, and it's not going anywhere. I'm never removing it due to the fact that it has a lot of views. :)

  • This is just........beautiful. Thank you for recording it!

  • No problem. Thanks for the comment. :)

  • I think the reason they replaced this siren is because they were probably taking down the other sirens in the city, and didn't even check this one to see if it worked or not. That's what they did here in Lincoln.

  • Either that, or it wasn't working properly. It failed 3 monthly tests this year. That might be the 2nd reason why they replaced it.

  • Man, the 2001-130 sounds nothing like this. We used to have one of these at my old school, but it got replaced by a 2001. Same for my new school, too.

  • Thanks for the comment. I wonder why they replaced it?

  • was this siren located off of us 30?

  • That's correct. Lincoln Highway and Central Ave. The 2001-130 took its place, though.

  • Brandon, what chooper level is this one at. It seemed like a 6/7, but I'm not sure.

  • It's definitely chopper level 3.

  • Oh. In that case, I now feel dumb. How is chooper level determined in the tone?

  • i need to record on of these i only have two left in my town

  • Thanks for the comment. Good luck recording one whenever you do. :)

  • HI Brandon! I hope you keep this particular video up for a long time!

  • Trust me. I'll never remove this video. :)

  • Oy.........another fatefully replaced Thunderbolt.

  • Yep, it got replaced in April. But don't worry. My county has plenty of Thunderbolts left.

  • lol i live in matteson off of rte 30 that shit is annoying

  • Thanks for the comment. It got replaced in April. They have a new siren up, now.

  • Awesome 1000T! Great video!

  • Thanks, man. Too bad our EMA replaced it in April. I'm gonna really miss it. :(

  • Sad that they replaced this one. Still sounds good.

  • I totally agree, Joe. I'm gonna really miss this T-Bolt a lot. But don't worry. My county still has plenty of T-Bolts. And almost all of them are 1000Ts/1003s. I don't think my county has any 1000s.

  • dod anyone else notice that the horn was super fast when it started?

  • This tornado siren is rotating at 4 RPM. So, it's not that fast. Now, if it was set to 8 RPM, then it would be super fast. :)

  • it replaced because it was like turing off and on

  • No, that's not why. It's supposed to turn off and on like that. It's called the Attack signal. I think it got replaced in April because it failed 3 monthly tests this year. It might've had problems.

  • Wouldn't that be the radio's fault, and not the actual sirens? I wish more people could fix Thunderbolts instead of replacing them.

  • I totally agree. It's very sad to see this Thunderbolt gone. I'm gonna really miss it.

  • that is a very healthy siren there. i love hering tb's. it never gets old. keep up the good work

  • Thanks, man. I agree. Too bad it got replaced by a 2001-130 2 months ago.

  • well atleast good got replaced with good
