  • Nice rig I have one but very little use here, Yours sounds good and nice contact. Some people jest cant keep there mouth shut and look for ways to try to

    rock the boat.

  • i wish i knew all that radio lingo :(

  • Nice looking and sounding radio de vk3fela

  • Out of curiosity, are you just using the stock handheld microphone or a desk mic. If it is a desk mic, which one is it? I really wish TenTec would bring back a radio like that one! 73......

  • Gee im so glad ham radio is spreading harmony and good will around the world lol.

  • Comment removed

  • how much does it cost ?

  • great video. as of the glare on the one spot thats a little hard to get rid of without under exposing everything else. other than that the exposure isnt that bad its mostly because the radio is black

  • thanks for posting this video, was considering buying one. i hve a tt paragon set up for 5 watts to 100.i notice that even though it is a later rig than the paragon they sound the same. not the type of rig for earphones. i still might get one if the price is right and i like my paragon. both rigs are simple to operate and not being an expert or a fanatic i like simple. i have a K1 also and sound wise much better but im not a button pusher. good show.

  • Ahh yes the 'ol wife came in with an armful and she needs help routine, works like a charm every time!

By the way if you are averaging 5 watts SSB, as you say, you ARE talking around 20 watts PEP, not 5 watts.

SSB is measured in PEP. Pretty basic stuff OM.

  • @lukedoc12345 Well it is so nice for you to share your vast knowledge and expertise, as you sound very smart. However, I don't recall mentioning anything about PEP, so why the clarification which sounds more like a correction? By your own statement, they are one and the same, just different units of reference! So, your point is? However, if it gets you through and it makes you feel better about yourself, more power to you. Thanks for the input OM!

  • @PortableQRP It has nothing to do with me feeling anything. It's fact. You stated you averaged 5w out. Therefore your output is not 5w QRP on phone. You were talking SSB. PEP is how SSB is measured. Its sad you are not willing to learn. Being sarcastic to me and others do not change facts. I don't make this stuff up. Good luck to you Sir. You will need it. No need to reply back, but I'm sure you will, with more of the same. 73

  • @lukedoc12345 Hey OM, don't get your knickers in a knot! And certainly don't take it personally. I am just having fun, and trying to do some blogging. Guys like you make for great blogging. 73 Enjoy!

  • @lukedoc12345 Don't let guys like this spoil your fun, just ignore him. de WA0RJ

  • @musketman2008 ...Plenty of joy here OM! Guess thats what I get for saying something. I was somewhat taken back and disappointed by his sarcastic reply, I didn't expect that. His need for "blogging" has a higher priority than being civilized evidently. He will either learn for himself, or not. No matter...73

  • @lukedoc12345 Your PEP is 2x your actual output power.20w PEP is 10w output...100w PEP is actual power output of 50w.200w PEP is 100w output power.Formula...2:1 ratio of PEP to actual RF ouput power level.

  • So do we go by the radio or what the power meter is telling us as for an accurate output of power ? if this the case then i have to set my radio at 10 watt setting to be working 5 watt qrp according to my power meter, this is ssb ofcourse on fm etc then yes you be pushing full power - please debate this people tnx.

  • So do we go by the radio or what the power meter is telling us as for an accurate output of power - this needs to be put right as when my 897d is set at 10 watts i only talking like 5 watts average according my powre meter and same for if my radio set at 5 watt then i only talking like 2 watts - i will only get like the full power radio set if i whistle or screamed high pitch in to microphone - so could say 5 watt qrp but really only using 2 watt so it not right.

  • Ten-Tec should have kept this little gem in production longer. Thanks for sharing. 73

  • the large numbers on the digital readout are nice for us older folks, i have 3 ten tecs and they are good rigs.by the way all my rigs are second hand, which allows me to buy what i want.

  • Cedar Rapids! I live close to that.

  • 5 Watts? I own one of these. If you look closley, the power control is at the 20 watt point. :-)

  • @wa4jm Well, not exactly true. I just got it back from Tentec and they tuned it up and according to the watt meter I was averaging 5 watts... On these rigs you can not take where the mic gain knob setting is at as the Gospel truth as to output. NOT a very accurate indication AT ALL. several factors determine output, NOT just were "a knob is set". I guess the bird watt meter is how I would prefer to determine the output.

Anyway, thank you for your interest and 73

  • Nice qrp radio!!

  • Great radio. I really, really want one of those :) de MW3YMY

  • Sweet, not a bad machine.

  • very nice

  • Nice video, Bob. Too bad Ten Tec no longer market this fine radio. 73 from Huntsville AL.

  • so you posted the same comments on other ham operators page? yeah CB = Children's Band. your proving it every time you post.. please feel free to study the technicians test and have a license to use frequency's, (Sorry, we don't have channels)

    73's K1SPL

  • Typical ham operators, jealous cause we do more fun stuff on the cb then just talk about the weather, i aint never heard no hammy ham on your bands talk about anything but the damn weather, boring! plus yalls equipment aint professional like ours

  • wow dude get a life a hobbie in think your mad because you can't pass the test

p.s. are radios are a lot more professional in if it wasn't for us experimenting with radios in that you would have anything I love my ham radios in thats why am always getting nw stuff in helping out when needed

  • hahaha a 7 year old has passed ur test. we experiment with keydowns, 20k watts mobile, what do u do? cb is much more professional, go see the video ' anti ham radio cbs are better' by redneckmikesr , it'll tell you why.

  • @CBRADIOLOVER Well we talk about 911 being an inside job and the fluoride poisoning your water. Do they talk about that on CB?

  • very interesting)

    73 , ur5maw

  • nice ten tec. looka great. 73 WJ2L/4

  • These are such nice little radios. Too bad Ten-Tec ceased production of them. I only use mine on CW, but they do fine on SSB as well. I'll won't be parting with mine.

  • Great video!

  • Hi Bob,

Nice, good, simple radio you got there. Im just in the process of getting my ticket, but have some knowledge of "HAMS" with my Dad and Uncle being on them. I'm just wondering, is that Argonaut a 13.8 volt mobile radio? Or is it just a smaller base? I like that its simple unlike my fathers Yaesu FTDX9000D, I got a hernia just looking at it! THanks and waves from up the road in Chatham..

    -Tim

  • Nice contact, nice radio.

    Curt

  • Fantastic transceiver, keep posting :-)

    73 Peter G0OMH

  • Super Radio! I hope you will work K5D (Desecheo DXpedition) and video that as well.

  • Good radio good video

  • Enjoyed the video. As others will attest, QRP is fun... too bad more don't try it. 73

  • Excellent video. Beautifully simple radio. Have you ever tried this radio portable running off a battery?

  • No, not yet... I have just babied this radio, it does not leave the shack... I have the FT-817ND and IC-703+ for "out door" use...

  • I regret the day that I sold my Argo V... I have not be able to find a better little QRP radio since... Sounds like you are having fun... The audio sounds nice too! Enjoy...

  • nice qrp radio...

  • Good to see another video Bob!!!

  • Yeah... I have many to upload, finish and do... However, got a little busy with the business, family etc.... Also, this winter we finished the basement which included my first ever dedicated shack in 32 years of being a ham. I will have to do a video of the shack once things are in place.

Good to see you are doing well Dave...

Also, I finally got a decent antenna up for 160m band and I am absolutely loving it.

    Chat soon!

    73

    Bob
